as a kpop stan i always find it so funny when they start calling idols problematic because as humans we are all problematic. we have all done something wrong or something that is not considered ideal or may be offensive without even realizing it. it's like they have a checklist and when one idol fits a box they start throwing the "problematic" title onto them. we glorify these idols too much it's sad.

i feel like the only way to start humanizing idols is to start from the beginning again. kpop companies create perfect idols -> kpop fans expect perfect idols -> companies create perfect idols… kpop stan’s have only ever been given perfect idols, so that’s all they expect and that’s why companies create perfect idols. the only way to end the cycle is to restart. restart with imperfect idols, show fans the real side. but we have to restart because if we don’t (and the idols aren’t shown as perfect) they’ll be hated on. so, the humanization of idols will probably never happen… unless somehow we can go back and start over
@LuciaNunez-rm8lu5 ай бұрын
the thing is that the kpop industry is literally based on the idol and their perfect image. I saw once that a pile of I think txt's albums was left on the street like garbage bc fan only bought them to get the photocards. They're not kpop fans bc they listen to the music anymore but bc of the idols. This chanel has this video ("how kpop exploits your loneliness") were it explains really well why kpop fans are obsessed and live for their idols (thas why they're called idols cause we idolize them). My point is that no "perfect" idols = prolly no kpop industry. I just have the impression that even the companies work harder in order to sustain the image of idols by making them appear on alot of programs and etc. than they do for music (for example, compared to the western music industry, kpop albums have very few songs, at most 6 or 7, like?? 😭😭 On the other hand, they have other stuff like photocards or album photos - that I don't know if they have it in western music albums. U know western music celebs don't go on as many programs as kpop idols do, and only the most popular ones do it). Its like if the kpop industry was 70% idols apparence and 30% music, at best. And people don't complain about it cause they seem its fair or are used to it (specially korean fans), theyre happy with having theyre idols photocards. Personally, when I buy an album, its for the music, for playing the cd in the car, i really dont care about the photocards (im more of a light fan). I guess korean culture and industry of entertainment is way different then western's, but now its getting bigger and expanding internationally (ofc its not "bad" but that means more people will get obsessed with kpop idols and that means more toxic fans). People are fans cause of the "PERFECT" idols. Theyre obsessed with their lives and always look for the slightiest detail to critize them. I think it was in the same video i mentioned by this chanel, Hyeautiful, were he says that "without idols, kpop would just be another genre". Its hard changing a whole industry by removing the one thing that makes it stand.

I think a lot of fans, especially new ones, are not aware of how much pressure these idols are under. they have to think of the fans, the staff that depend on them for a job, an income, the investors that make their comebacks possible... they are so overworked and underpaid and disrespected... in an oversaturated industry that almost survives on these unhealthy things: unrealistic beauty standards, fanservice, having to pretend that they're fine just so that their fans won't worry and their haters won't bash them... and they've thrown their youth and privacy and personal life away for this... my heart breaks for them, really. their fans are so emotionally dependent on them that they have to be happy all the time and the minute that happy, perfect facade slips, the eagles swoop in for the kill. i hate how perfect they have to be. they're even scared to interact with other groups (opp sex more than same sex, obv) bc of rumours and fan wars... what happened? i stanned from 2nd gen onwards and... what happened???

And the 'happy' thing is such a shit expectation, I always crack up when someone brings that up. Dude, grow up! I remember fans hating Yeri(from Red velevet) because she was still shook and hurt when JongHyun passed away and not 'smiling' when on a music show. Okay, I had to edit my comment so much lmao to the point that what I wanted to say is I completely agree with your video and I really love everything you said. There’s going to be ridiculous people out there who disagree but I couldn’t care any more about what they say. It hurts to actually see the pressure explode because I am positive we all know that the only way for pressure to make one to “explode” is that that pressure needs to become very VERY overwhelming. And that unfortunately DOES NOT only apply to those whom have shown their true colors Also the thing you said about only being able to count 5 idols in a relationship with only 5 fingers shocked me. I know some may say “What if they’re not interested in dating or what if they’re busy?” but I am damn well positive that some out there do not date because they know how wild some fans will go over them being in love and having a relationship I also want to mention that I’m really glad that one member recently in the group I Stan has been more open about the way they feel about being a K-pop idol. They speak of the “pretty” and the “ugly” of it all. I, until this day, do not know if they are sharing everything but what I do know is that they’re sharing things that make them vulnerable and they do it anyways knowing that. I would love to praise other idols who are doing this too, such as the ones you have shown in this video. The fact that they shared that really shows the hard reality some people think isn’t happening.

I am a "new kpop fan". My bestie started liking kpop a few months ago, and, since i wanted to know a few more things about kpop, i started listening to a few songs and searching stuff abt idols, and companies. Amd that's when i started noticing all the points mentioned in the video. In the favoritism case, i still dont understand how it works. How can you choose 1 single person to be your all time favorite, when it's integrated in a group? You dont know them, how can you just go there and pick one? My friend doesnt have a bias in the groups, "I dont know how to choose one, they're all so talented and wholesome, so i decided to bias them all", she says. And i think more kpop fans should think that way. I also started to question myself: "why do people still want to become kpop idols?". Bcs there's really no benefit from it, beyond money. Idols are overworked and overshadowed, are hated by the ones who "bias" them, have to be perfect all the time, "change your face", "put more makeup", "eat less", "eat more". And, in the end, even being a kpop fan for less that 2 months, the last thing i ask myself is: "when did kpop stop being a music genre, to be a bunch of young girls and boys being slowly destroyed by the world...?"

@Millieology It makes me sad that from all the reasons you mentioned, none of them talks about them liking to sing/dance/rap.... Kpop is turning all about industry. But they seem to be slowly disappearing, and that leaves me really worried. I am not sure if the kpop community is gonna improve, but i really, really hope it does

No one batted an eye at all the dead idols before they died, everyone's so empathetic and kind now that they're gone. And people don't realize that all idols that are alive right now could very well be dead idols soon; and only then will they retract all their statements, will they feel empathy and will they treat them with some common decency. Kpop fans should watch this vídeo almost everyday as a reminder. Most of them are really immature and young, just like some idols from this generation (4th) who are experiencing intense hate for things they have done and/or do. I think that they concept of dehumanize is very closed and specific, what contributes to hypocrisy. When I was younger, I was one of those people. When I grow up, it gets better and I have a more mature perception of things. in time they should understand. (Sorry for my english, it's not my first language)

Double standards indeed. Well back then I also came to a phase that I was a heavy stan and the toxicity of fanbase makes me feel so bad and sick of them. Well that's the reason why I turn to be a casual fan.

The expectations kpop fans set for kpop idols are insane. Holding people accountable should be done, for everyone but when an idol makes a mistake its so easy for them to be labeled as a bad person or this and that, even fans would stop liking them cause of a mistake they did like they broke their expectations cause they didn't except them to do something like this. I understand there is disappointment and with some cases it really is a reason to stop liking them but I mean the mistakes kpop idols do. They don't see their idols as a human really who is capable of making mistakes and when they do its just goodbye. Its either that or their crazy obsessed and ignore the mistakes their idols have done while defending them saying they did nothing wrong. There is just a line that needs to be drawn when it comes to holding people accountable. Idk if my comment makes sense but thats just what I think

I thaught during the entire video "why don't we condamn hating and assuming all together then" and "what a sad video", until the conclusion. I can't put myself to normalize it even if most people do since ages. I can't help but see them as childs with unhealthy environment. Those younsters got it hard and I can't find them "perfect" in any way. However, I see the effort companies put to manage their image into how they think the public wants it.

I can’t help but feel so sorry for this idols they some where chased by scouts and didn’t even want to be an idol. Now they also have to deal with getting hate for mundane things. What’s the point of stanning a group just to stan the popular members the idea of a group is multiple people so multiple should get a chance to shine. Support each member individually and uplift everyone. Each idol work their tail off to perfect their image

A life of a kpop idol : Auditioning,or joining debut projects... Becoming a trainee, doing extreme diets, throat pain, getting no sleep, Hate and love mixed together, body shaming, viral for good/bad reasons, the so called "flop era", debuting minors, perfect 24/7, And for a few kpop idols that naturally have wavy/curly hair have to get a perm and LITERALLY BURN Thier hair like Danielle from Newjeans. When a group makes a comeback the company chooses their hairstyles and hair colors so the idols don't get to choose what hair color they want. Before comebacks some groups or let's say the most of them go on extreme diets cuz of course nobody wants healthy looking idol with an average body right? So they eat nothing or ice cubes or just water And it's a big problem if you're one kg/pound overweight.. You'll get canceled.. In many videos you can see some idols eating and 1-3 idols not eating. Or just pretending to eat. Like hold chopsticks and and get the food close to your mouth and then getting distracted by something else. In some videos you can see idols eating diet food. Getting hated because the stylist gave horrible outfits or hating a person from the group cuz they got a better outfit than the others And then the favoritism in the group. The company loves one particular person and let's them have the most lines, the prettier fits and always in the middle of pictures etc. Wearing makeup 24/7 isn't good. Just like bibi said. Whenever you wear makeup it just feels like there's a thick feeling on your face and it's not healthy you might see idols looking the best on camera. But in real Thier skin is ruined because they need to wear makeup 24/7 Another thing is dying idol's hair blonde.. Thier hair might look smooth on camera but in real life it's just messed up. Having to learn Korean (for Non - korean trainees) Learning korean isn't easy, i haven't tried it but it takes a lot. And some rlly stupid shippings. Like for example There's a female idol thaty wore a bracelet. And then a male idol wore the same bracelet Then everyone will go crazy both of the Fandom Will argue and stuff like who even cares if I'm wearing some shoes and then someone else wears them like as if i can only own them like????? In the end Thier dreams of becoming singers was messed up, but they try to fake a smile so we can smile :) It's also hard for female idols.. Like getting tight /short clothes and you might never know if they're in Thier period. They could be DYING inside. In the end not just kpop idols are facing this but I'm pretty sure almost the whole world is facing something like this. Btw there Were some le sserafim clips that were in the unforgiven era? This video is 11 months ago Le sserafim's comeback was 2 months ago... Idk anyways ty for reading
