I worked for a while at a company that made these types of hose assemblies for the big three. From what I can see they look the same, all made of stainless steel. And obviously the quality control on the RR is lacking.

EXACTLY! I said the same thing! That is a wild and insane mark up . 11k for what ? Its aluminum tubing and rubber! It's no different than any other metal to rubber lines on any other car. Even if I had the money I wouldn't pay 11k for that , it's asinine . When you know what things cost , you know better. 'The world's most expensive car is a cheap Rolls Royce.' The B60 Silver Clouds were probably some of the best vehicles ever produced, super dependable, requiring very little maintenance over their very, very long life span. These new BMW and VW manufactured vehicles are absolutely beautiful but sadly not the quality Henry Royce would have allowed. I sold my last one and unless I go back to another vintage 6 cylinder cloud, would never buy another. Sad state for such a wonderfully historic brand. Without Rolls Royce, good chance we'd all be speaking German right now.

I truly wish I lived near your shop so I could ask you to work on my Volvo, although perhaps you are more inclined to work on these high end vehicles. I was wondering what the labor was considering the time and the amount of problem solving you had to do. No matter, though, whatever it was I know it was worth it! Yep, thats what I would have done. Remake them myself. Many folks don't understand how easy it is to build your own plumbing parts on a car. Swagelok, and/or AN fittings/hose, a good 37° flaring tool and some copper nickel line can get you just about anything you would ever need to build. Or do what you did and take them to a hydraulic shop. Royal Brass in my part of California can do the same job.

%1000 correct! You could make that yaself . He could have cut out those rubber lines, flared out the aluminum tubing lines and reattached his own rubber lines . That was an easy fix. Then I would have shrink wrapped the rubber lines to prevent any damage in the future .

@duckwater : they measured cut and replaced the ends with 8 small ( by hydraulic standards) threaded end pieces. The hoses are also low pressure ( I deal with 3-20,000 psi) and are very inexpensive and they have machines that put the end pieces on in seconds... Again a simple hose measurement...and then pressure tested and done....The price is very fair... At Cali labor rates no less .... Let's not give businesses opportunities to start overcharging because of KZbin chatter..

Nice video and definitely some good advice given to the owner. I'm not very knowledgeable about automotive repairs, but I can't imagine how a quality replacement part can adversely affect the reliability and/or resale value of a 2012 vehicle. What are the odds of another line failure with the same ridiculously high cost of parts? You can't even justify the purchase of a $10,000 hose without thinking about the other $10,000 hoses just waiting to spring a leak. You need to get that guy's number (hose repairman) and engrave it in a prominent place in the car. Under the hood seems like a good place to me.

An interesting video, thank you. Surprised by Arthur's faith in OEM parts. As a mechanic of many years (admittedly mainly on motorcycles) i've found that carefully sourced after market parts or parts repaired, modified or even manufactured from scratch are often superior to original parts. The repaired oil lines here are a good example.
@DEEuroworks

@@lfoggy3061 I find most aftermarket parts not fitting well and that part alone is usually a deal breaker for me even if they are meant to be superior quality. Depends on particular part I guess. Thanks you four comment.
