Thanks for the DEMO I've been contemplating the switch from my vertical to a yagi for 2 meters, but I'll need a rotor to get the full benefit. I've never seen how they hook up before so it's nice to see what it will require.

I always place a zip tie around the cable just behind the Gromit, inside rotor, to keep the cable from getting pulled out.

Great Video! Using 18 gauge thermostat wire is preferred. The rotor grommet will clamp it like a vice, so it will not slip.

Very good video. I'm looking at installing my first rotor and this was very helpful. The little fact about the notch in the mast was great; I know it's there but I never knew why! And looking at your channel, I was surprised to see we have the same interests: ham radio, motorcycles, and trains! Very cool. Don, W9LRQ

I purchased this ancient rotor under the Brand Channel Master 9500A , I wanted to use it with my CCTV camera but really not happy to have it, its build is solid but it is painfully slow and over weight ,

good video for average person. However, with your wind load that rotator is way understated. At a minimum, a Yaesu 450 would be significantly better. I have put up a few VHF antennas (222 M2 10E, and also 432 15 element K1FO) on same mast/rotator with the eaves mount set up and an old radio shack rotator without any issue-- wind load much lower. 5 element 6M M2 not good for this installation. You can see my installation on my QRZ page showing the 222 and eaves mount.

I'm looking at doing the same setup. Eave mount ham antenna. I want to get more heavy duty mounts than you have here. I think they should be spaced farther apart to get it more strength. I want to do a large dipole and go up farther off the roof 10 ft. I would much rather pay a professional installer to do it than get up there myself.

Just a suggestion. Put anti-seize on the treads of the studs. If they break after a long run they will come off easy.

Super video. Thank you for this and all ofvthe others you've done. Such a great resource! My question is, admittedly, a very, very basic one: do the conductors have to be connected in a certain sequence, i.e.-red should go to #1, black to #2, green to #3? AND does the connection sequence have to be te same on the controller unit? I have a HyGain AR500 that I'm connecting a receive loop to for the first time. Thanks for your help!
@SevenFortyOne
@SevenFortyOne 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! You have to connect the wires so that pin 1 on the controller is connected to pin 1 on the rotor. Same for the other pins. The colors help you keep track of that but it doesn't matter which color you use on each pin pair.

My rotor is still working great with the big m2 antenna on it. I'm actually kind of surprised-i didn't think it would last. It does move around a bit in the wind but otherwise it's fine. Good luck with your tower project-i hope that's all the tornado damaged! We had a scare here a few weeks ago when one passed a few miles to the South of me. 73!

SevenFortyOne Thanks for the reply. In addition to the tower, we lost a few trees and pieces of others and some roof damage mostly soffit. All in all not bad. A church in town lost its substantial roof.

You can't have much wind at your location then..... They are the biggest pile of crap as a cb / ham rotator made..... Just made to turn a small tv ariel on something like a camper van that's about it for normal cb ham radio use they are total waste of money buy a reasonable yeasu 450 650 or 1000 and fit a cage and thrust bearing for many years of trouble free use 29-fb-040 northwest Ireland 73's

does anybody have a idea if there is a way to make these rotors quieter? just a little fyi. when you go up with these or anything out doors Antennas, tower Etc, use never seize or Anti seize kind of stuff i use permatex and 3m this way one day you or somebody will have to remove those bolts, nuts etc and it will come off way easier. i learned this from the military, they used Anti seize in Kuwait with the military vehicles and took off bolts, nuts that had been in 140 deg heat for 8/9/10 years and never had a issue.
