Bongo Bongo was actually my favorite boss in the whole game, and I loved the design when I was little. Still do. But until I was about 12 I refused to get the Sun's Song because of all the ReDeads. I made my brother do that for me.

As a kid, I hated this temple. Personally, I think Bongo Bongo ruined most of it. The entire thing was creepy, and filled with Horror themes that, honestly, kinda creeped me out at that point. After all the Horror, seeing Bongo Bongo at the end... I ended up using him to vent. The temple itself plays on Fear and Illusions, mostly. It's the second most frustrating Dungeon in the game for first timers, I'd think. Water Temple being the top spot. The Spirit Temple being a close third, mostly because of the length. Don't get me wrong, the Spirit Temple is exhausting, but it's meant to be. Its entire design is meant to use everything you've gotten to that point to the utmost, with Ganon's Castle being a more Straightforward version of it. And it's never really invoked any emotional reaction to me, either. It's just Time Consuming. The only point that's even remotely worth emotions (in my experience) is what happens to Nabooru. It's a Giant Temple in the desert. Ancient Egyptians built better. Compared to the Shadow Temple, (or Water Temple) Spirit Temple is just normal and about what you'd expect. Nothing really unusual or frustrating about it. But in the Shadow Temple? For first timers, you don't really know left from right near the beginning without the Lens of Truth, and even then it's a little disorienting. The only other temple that's ever done that to me is Water Temple. From ALL LoZ games I've played.

When you're in a deep cavern or cave system, it feels like time either stops, slows, or goes on without you. It's a surreal feeling. Stone teeth grow from the ceiling and floor, the walls are misshapen, the floor is flooded. It feels like the furthest thing from "Earth" or "home", yet it's right beneath your feet.

If you think about it, OoT Link went through some really fucked up shit. He was just a kid (inb4 there's gotta be another way, he's just a boy!) when he started his journey. He was pretty much in a comatose state for the seven years he was sealed in the Temple of Light, he wasn't maturing mentally at all. Here he is, 17, going into a deep pit underneath a graveyard filled with and made out of skeletons, fighting the forces of Hell, and all the while having not just his physical limits tested, but his mental limits as well, and he still had the mind of a 10 year old. TL;DR Innocent 10 year old gets forced into fighting the forces of hell at the command of Providence. Real nice, golden goddesses, REAL nice.

I feel like his mental health is much more in trouble than his physical state. For instance, he's been bullied and excluded his whole childhood, his only friend a green-haired girl, he fights a bunch of evil plants and giant bugs in a talking tree, then is forced to watch the deku tree die even though he fought so hard to save him, Has to fight, basically fire-breathing dinosaurs as well as a giant one, and kill them off none the less, to get a ruby, and gets stuck inside a giant fish, and when he's finally done with that the person who probably cared most about him has to leave the land . So, he goes to the market, and finds a dying soldier telling him that he was told to direct you to the temple of Time, something you already know so he died in vain. So now Link also now knows he was the death of countless soldiers. So he goes to the Temple of Time and pulls the Master Sword out of the pedestal, and.... "Nothing but blue light around me! whats going on?!" Boom, now he's an adult with no idea what has happened and is told he has to save the whole world because he and Zelda F***ed everything up. He goes through the market to find redeads roaming the streets, possibly even some of the towns old population. He goes to the catsle only to find out it has been completely obliterated, with skeletons and bones everywhere, and a giant black-stone tower floating above a giant crater filled with what looks like blood.he leaves to find the town of Kakariko is filled with survivors of Castle Town and the town is struggling to get enough food for everyone. he goes to his home of the forest to find it overrun with monsters. he goes to Saria's special place... to find nobody there. He fights through this temple of pure hatred (I call it this because it's filled with ghosts and poes, and poes are spirits of concentrated hatred.) just to save his childhood friend, and then she has to live in another dimension because of her role. he goes to Death Mountain to find his sworn brother nowhere, and nobody but a single goron is there, just rolling around. He fights through a temple as hot as the sun filled with monsters and weird tube thingies that eat his stuff just to save him. Then, just like Saria, he has to live in another dimension. Just this would be enough to drive plenty into wanting to curl up into a ball in a dark hole and die. But wait, there's more! He goes to help the zoras because he figures that if the forest and death mountain were in trouble, so would they. But instead of finding them facing a horrible problem, they're just gone altogether, and their home is completely frozen over. He leaves through the fountain to see what happened to Jabu-Jabu, and he is gone. Nothing but ice is there. He sees a cave entrance and explores it. He finds iron boots and meets Sheik again, who tells that he is standing above the whole zora population, and the only she was able to save was his crazy zora fiancee. He is then told to travel across the whole continent to a lake, then jump underwater wearing boots made of iron, and shoot a thing in the wall to open a gate underwater that he needs to swim through to get to the next temple. So he fights more tubes and a bunch of water creatures, a nucleus that can control water, and even his own shadow, just to save this person and her people. He then goes to the desert to live out the rest of his days as a hermit in the middle of a haunted wasteland, only to be captured and THROWN, not dropped, THROWN 10 feet to land on his chest into a jail cell in a lookout tower. He escapes and decides to get go out with a bang and fight the gerudo, and goes into their base, only to find 4 carpenters he needs to save. When he does, he is given a tag that says he can walk freely in their land. He goes to the desert oasis to live there. It becomes night and he needs shelter, so he goes into this giant temple, to find absolutely nothing. he leaves, and is greeted by Sheik, who tells him he needs to come here as a child, and teches him a song to teleport him there, as the guards wouldn't let him through in the past. So he now has to go BACK to the destroyed town, and see those dead people and Ganon's Tower again. SO he puts the Master Sword back in the pedestal, and becomes a child again. He plays the song, and goes to the temple. He meets a gerudo who asks him to help her get a treasure. He helps, and she gets kidnapped by 2 witches. So he decides he should use the treasure to help her, but they don't fit him, so he must become an adult again/ But, he remembers what the windmill guy said, and visits him to play the Song of Storms. The windmill speeds up and the well is drained. he decides to explore the well, and this is when the REALLY F***ed up stuff comes. Giant flaming skulls flying around, big mutilated dismembered hands come from the ceiling and try to grab him. When he gets a key to open that door near the entrance.. Nothing but arms are sticking out of the ground, the floors and wall are made of skulls, some have blood stained into them, others seem to have been cleaned out. As he exits the room, one of the hands grabs him by the throat, and a bloody, purple blotched monsters comes out from the skulls. It is slowly slithering toward him. He tries to escape, but the hand won't budge. The monster is next to him. It lowers it's head. Link's head is in between his jaws. He feels it is about to close it's mouth. At the last second, he plunges his sword into the roof of it's mouth, and it's flinches and cries in pain. The hand let's go, but he won't let the Dead hand escape! He jumps on it's back and starts wilding thrusting the sacred treasure of the Kokiri into the monster's neck. It cries out, then falls over and sinks back into the ground. A chest appears, and inside he finds the lens of truth, the object an old man once told him about. He then leaves the well, and goes to the Temple of Time. he decides to just teleport to the desert because he doesn't want to see the dead townsfolk for a 3rd time. He fights through the Spirit temple and rescues the gerudo girl named Nabooru. he decides to go to Kakariko and wait for Sheik for instructions on what to do now, as he has saved all 5 sages. He sees smoke from far away, and wonders what has happened. When he gets there, he finds the houses on fire, and Sheik staring down into the well. As he apporaches, Sheik tells him,"Link! Get back!" just as she flies up into the air, being spun around and around, before soaring against a wall and landing on her back. Link tries to help, but the force turns into a purple cloud. Link prepares for the thing to attack. Sheik tries to tell Link to move, back can only manage to hold up her hand. Link is surrounded by the creature, and is beaten and thrown down the well (I added this because I'd imagine that's why the screen went dark, plus you hear him falling) He wakes up with Sheik tending to his wounds, and tells him there is one more temple he must conquer, and that the sage of the temple is Impa, Zelda's former nursemaid, and tells the hero that it is in the graveyard. He sees a small fenced off area up on the hill in the graveyard, and hookshots up there. He uses a spell he learned from a fairy to light some torches and enters the Shadow Temple. here, he fights against hell's forces, and his worst nightmares and most hated enemies. The whole place absolutely terrifies him on the inside. Blood stained walls, skulls echoing things said hundreds of years ago, and learning what the temple is from evil spirits that live inside: a place that stores all of hyrule's negativity and hatred and greed. Essentially hell on earth. AT this point, he just wants to save Impa and leave, and never wants to return. He falls down a hole in the room, and lands on a drum. It starts shaking and making sounds. A creatures larger than anything he's ever seen before. A pale, torn up body. An eye in the neck where the head should've been. Stubs of raw flesh where the shoulders should be. Dismembered hands float in the air where they would be if the arms were still there. It then beats on the drum and doesn't stop, but disappears into the shadows. Link uses the lens of truth, and discovers where he is. He defeats him eventually after a long and bloody battle. Impa tells him he should go to the temple of time, as someone is waiting there for him. He goes there and meets Sheik again. She reveals that Ganon has the triforce of power, Link the triforce of Courage, and the 7th sage, destined to rule them all, has the triforce of wisdom. She then crosses her arms into a + shape, and there is a burst of light.When link opens his eyes, Sheik is gone, and standing before him is Princess Zelda. At that moment, the sight of her being alive washes away all the bad. But, their reunion is short-lived. Ganon kidnaps Zelda and the bad is back. He storms Ganon's Tower, absolutely pissed that Ganon has caused all of the problems, and now the one good thing was taken from him the moment he got it, and angry at ganon himself. He fights ganon at the top of the tower. The battle ends with both covered in each other's blood (as well as their own) and ganon on his knees, not believing he was defeated by a mere 17 year-old. He then fights ganon in his giant form, and wins. yeah, this was long, and afterward, re-reading it made med feel I just retold Ocarina, but yeah, i agree. Hero of Time has seen some things... As for majoras mask, it seems Link isn't tormented by what happens to him as much as he is tormented by what happens to others. Anyway, congrats for reading this far and thanks. I remember as a 8 year old kid I was legitimately scared to go into the shadow temple. I went in there without the lens of truth so I somehow managed to get the hover boots and got until the large room right after the guillotine. But I was too afraid to go further. So I decided to go out and go back to child link for some reason and went into the well by accident and got the lens of truth. But I still didn’t want to go into the shadow temple so I did the spirit temple first after that I had enough courage to finish the shadow temple.

Gives you that shiver up your spine, the one that makes your hair stand on end. You can imagine the air is becoming sour with death and the ground getting soaked with blood. Walls are closing in and the wind turns to ice. The only sound is your frightened heart beat and quivering breath. The entire Shadow Temple was the darkest part of the game and my favourite. This piece has now ensured it stays that way. By far this is one of the top remixes you've done and the best I've heard of this song.

the shadow temple was definitely the creepiest when I was a kid, i could not STAND redeads and gibdos simply because i was terrified of them it made getting the sun song a post spirit temple thing for me when i was little, of course im braver now this also applies to the shadow temple which i kept nearly pissing myself after first seeing a dead hand, and then seeing it a second time was still awful i left the dungeon after that one and was like " welp ok we're not doing that anytime soon time to go back to kokiri forest and listen to peaceful happiness LOL

I was lucky enough to get this game as soon as it came out and take great care of it for all these years, so much so that I played it a few weeks ago and it was even better than I remember it being, I grew up on the gen 1 edition and it's still one of the, if not the best in my opinion.

Fantastic! The pitches are PERFECT, they jar your sympathetic nervous system. You wince, your spine tingles, but the notes create a chaotic melodious experience. Tim Burton and Danny Elfman would be jealous :-D

Water Temple is...Logic based and just a lot of backtracking. And waiting. It's why most people say OoT because it was the first 3D Zelda: You had to wait to attack.
