What you are calling "octave-chord" is usually called "stride".

You are correct! Many church pianists are use to it being called an octave-chord pattern. Also, it makes the concept a little easier when calling it by it's definition!

@@newmerciesmusic The general style of left hand octaves was invented (Scott Joplin, etc) to make it loud before they had microphones. If the volume can be boosted with speakers, then is it necessary to do the LH octaves?
