I'm third year now and began mind mapping recently(heavily influenced by your methods), especially for the massive subject of pathology. I scored the first half-year exam quite well. It's a big but long term useful task to make mind maps with enough info with the balance of pictograms and words(I find making symbols/small drawings beneficial in increasing retention). Cheers from Croatia!

@TheQuark678910 ай бұрын
I'd suggest delving more into how & why the method you're using is supposed to work. For example with calculus, if you're trying to find the max/min of a quadratic function, you make an equation where the derivative = 0. Why? Because you know the shape of a parabola, and that only at the max/min does it flatten for an instant. Unfortunately, this kind of info is often skimmed over or not taught at all, but if you're at a university level then you can & should ask the professor at office hours. Plus, learning this context makes you a better problem-solver, instead of just a person carrying a manual of procedures, which I think is much more fulfilling.

Having said that, I do have questions, hope you can answer: 1) You do this for each and every Topic of a class? 2) Usually in your field, how many Topics, on average, does a class have? 3) How do you fit practice into this? if the topic requires practice like math, coding or art, or maybe you have to do a project using the learned material, do you do the practice after covering the whole topic in its entirety? Hello, first of all, thank you for the video! I have been using mindmap to study for the past few months. My question is, it seems like you make a list of key terms, make a draft map out of your list, and try to grasp a big picture BEFORE you actually read the study materials. Isn’t this only possible when you have a background knowledge of what you are about to study? How can you make a draft map without reading a study material when you have pretty much zero background knowledge of the topic you are studying? Is it even possible? This part is the most time consuming for me every time I do mindmap..😢
@sairian8 ай бұрын
the idea is that ur using what u know or what u think might work, hence the name "maybe mapping". The idea is to get it wrong, when you read more of the material and you understand more, a lot of the map will change. it'll feel more engaging, which is the point in studying. Like the feeling when you are "enlightened" haha.

@@sakshamsubedi7805 of course, a whiteboard is great because you can adapt the mind map over time - e.g., doing grouping or change the spacing/relation. How would you go about incorporating recorded lectures into this system? Would you suggest watching the lecture during the evaluate phase?
@tiaa4584 ай бұрын
Are you given the slides with the lecture? If you go off the slides to do your scoping, you can narrow watching the lecture down to only things you don't understand during evaluating. Although personally, I use recorded lectures as pre-study rather than for actual study and instead use Khan Academy or shorter, more specialised videos for the specific thing I need to understand during Eval. Another way to use recorded lectures, which works if you already have some understanding of the topic or can infer relationships, is to brainstorm a couple Bloom Level 3-5 questions before watching the recording, and then watching and answering. I guess it's like Evaluation anyway, but you do it whenever. I usually like this method only if there's going to be a live workshop or tutorial on that specific topic during the week though. Over all, do whatever makes sense for you as long as you're always finding a way to link back the info into your mental web and doing deep processing. Justin says it's good to use a variety of learning techniques and adapt your internal process to how the info is delivered so you can repackage it in a way you understand. There's no one size fits all, and really no wrong way to do it as long as you're making sure to always stop, group, and integrate the information into your existing knowledge schema
@Lianhua2532 ай бұрын
For watching or viewing lectures, I recommend giving yourself a pre-set of questions to answer before watching the video to both train yourself to get into the 'thinking zone' for the topic and so that your brain can make connections more easily when watching. Another thing is to simply give yourself comparative questions to answer in your head.
