The paraboloid structure is attractive and strong. I bet a bamboo grid would be cheap and strong. IMO, what is needed for industrial factories is an elongated dome, without the saddleback. Manufacturers are hesitant to build box shaped factories in hurricane zones. An elongated dome could be hurricane-proof and cheap to build, but would require a special shaped air-form.

Good Saturday Iggie, Yes, this is the 2nd strongest structure to build. I agree, if bamboo is available - go for it 👍 By changing the form - it will no longer hold the Hyperbolic Paraboloid name. Sure, elongated Domes will work well.

I totally agree with Harry on "not" using shipping containers. I had a chance to help build some tiny homes at an East Tennessee manufacturer biz. They had a couple of custom shipping containers they were building. I talked to the builders and discovered after the issues and expenses you have to work around, that it's simply not worth it.

We first considered that approach (I shared it in my older videos) but glad we took a different route. Yes, each hold their own benefits - and one may make their own decisions of building approach. Definitely recommend to do research & calculate the budget to avoid surprises. And like you stated - consider all involved.

Excellent! Great Video. Like your inflatable-reusable forms - a simple and elegant cement construction solution. Ive played around with concrete embedded cloth and was thinking could you build a "reusable" hyperbolic roof form using temporary steel studs resting on piers? Idea: without surrounding walls a finished roof would appear to float on top of cement reinforced columns. Columns: Could be constructed our of block or concrete forms made of cardboard cylinder reinforced with rebar. The top of each column might be notched to accept the temporary steel stud form Roof: For added strength wire lath / mesh or larger diameter wire could be included within the roof pour along with additives, fibers etc. To keep the concrete in place, a thin piece of home made concrete cloth or super thin chipboard / cardboard and plastic on top could rest over / drape over the stud form. Building up the concrete a bit at a time would require scaffold and some kind of spray rig. After concrete is cured, a small part of the steel stud could be sawed out / left behind, becoming a sacrificial cut-out so you could remove the form. During the shot-crete or concrete roof application wooden temporary supports, could offset the roof weight until dry. Look forward to your videos, been following this channel since you built the first dome in your back yard! Can you announce when you will offer programs at your ranch, when and how to register?

Why not use the latex cement stuff you showed initially and drape the mesh over the hyperbolic paraboloid form? Seems you could combine 2 things you showed in this video and get a really cool and lightweight structure.

I was wondering about air circulation in monolithic structures, I was contemplating running ductwork connected to passive, thermal tubes for cooling... but in a flooding area, cutoffs would be needed.
