This was so much fun to run! Thank you GDQ for having me.

Check out @CodeParade's devlog channel for more details on Hyperbolica and the new 4D Golf game. I'll try to explain... Normal euclidean geometry (which you live in) follows the axioms at 2:17. The important part is "parallel lines are always the same distance apart". The only part of this game with euclidean geometry is the classroom and phase 2 of the boss. Hyperbolic geometry operates on the axiom, "parallel lines are closest at one point, then get further apart forever in both directions." You can see this most clearly when he walks by the fence at 10:56. Most of the levels in the game use this. It allows for some fun bits like at 16:20 where every intersection in the maze is a 90-degree angle but at 16:29 you can see the maze's grid is pentagonal (a tiling which is possible in curved space). The farm at 6:50 uses spherical geometry, which operates on the axiom, "parallel lines will intersect twice". The snowglobe analogy is apt, since running around on the surface of the level is like running around on the inside of a spherical snowglobe. At all times there is an antipode above the player's head where all of the parallel lines pointing away from the player converge, and that's why you'll see very large fog-tinted objects in the sky. The final boss shoots missiles at the player, and these missiles have some fun properties. In hyperbolic space you can always outrun a missile because if you juke left or right it always has to travel further to follow you. In normal space this doesn't work as well. In spherical space any juking actually makes it easier for the missile to get to you. The game HyperRogue has further treatments of these properties of curved space.

When I took on that final boss my first time, my brain got sick from watching the world collapse to a tesseract shape. This game is bananas

I love how enthusiastically they talk about what makes the gophers come out of their holes, meanwhile the mind-boggling geometry is barely mentioned.

I saw this video in the feed and went to buy and complete the game just so I could watch the run guilt free

Congratulations on the run! Did a "speedrun" of this game once on its release without grinding too much. Got a time of 38 minutes. It is very impressive to see this time shaven in half, given how linear this game is structured
