Power usage is specified at 100W, which is rather steep for POE... They don't add power cables in there because that would require either adding 4 different power cables, increasing the size of the box, or making it necessary to have 4 different skus (and also increasing the size of the box), greatly increasing the price of the units, while you can buy the power cables separately for $2 in bulk.

Good video, but not all BMD users are frustrated by the lack of a power cable. Why BMD does this is quite simple. One universal part number ready to ship and distribute world-wide instead of 10 different part numbers. If they start including power cables, they would need to prepare and allocate region by region based on the plug type. While I can understand this may be frustrating for someone getting started, most of us have more of these cords around than we will ever use and more would be environmentally less friendly.

I understand. For some people it won't matter. I think that I was more upset because they're getting rid of POE on these so while I have a ton of ethernet cables sitting around, I didn't have any extra three prong power cables. I get the whole needing different power plugs for different countries but even companies like Decimator still include the 3 or 4 extra pieces you can swap right out.

@@zephanmoses Lack of POE is a bummer, but if I venture a guess, it is based on the required power budget. Current specs show up to 50 watts required for the mini and 100 watts for everything larger. Only 802.3bt would come close providing the required wattage and would be a tech support nightmare for users not understanding the differences in af, at and bt POE types. Like Decimator, BMD does include the extra pieces with the ATEM's - and this is because with a wall-wart power supply, it's easy to include the low cost snap on plugs. The hyperdecks have built-in power supplies, so unless you want more adapters clogging up your power strips and coming unplugged due to their weight, BMD would need to include full complete set of safety standard compliant cables for each country. This would increase the package size, weight, cost and add irresponsible environmental waste.

Exactly, not shipping powercables for things that take in AC line voltage is 100% the correct thing to do, and All companies should do it. I'd even support legislation to force companies to do it, even for consumer products. For us professional in the AV/Sound/Light industry, we already have an abundance of powercables. A lot of high end pro sound and light gear comes with a cable that has the connector for the device and a bare cable end that you put on your local power connector on, good solution but only works for actual pros that can be trusted to connect a few wire correctly. For Blackmagic it is obviously the correct solution to not send a cable at all. I get annoyed every time I unpack a bunch of new lights and almost havt to throw away the included cord, either because it is shit or because I have enough already and seldomly use the standard cord. Ideally the cost savings for the company acting correctly is passed on to the customer and it will most likely be bigger than the cost of buying a cable if you for some reason need it, even with proper connectors like Powercon.

Hey, can you bring a 4k signal in via hdmi, the on the hdmi out scale it to 1080 to attach to an atem mini? I do that with my Ninja V, but if this can do that, I would love to have one of these to each camera, and then one last one for the program back up.

That's a good questions. If I were doing it, I'd actually use something like this for the scaling: bhpho.to/3LoFJzG I wouldn't waste a hyperdeck just to be a scaler.

Do you have a video explaining why (if it is) best to record to a Hyperdeck than USB out from the Atem mini? Is there a significant difference in quality? I am recording some conference and I am aware that my video quality from my atem to an ssd is not the best. So I am considering a hyperdeck. Thanks!!
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 4 ай бұрын
The USB output from the ATEM Mini is a UVC connection. It's compressed losing details in the highlights and the shadows with a noticeable difference in quality. However if you are recording from an ATEM to SSD directly and not using a USB connection into a computer (for software recording), you're still getting a high quality recording but it will be dependent on the bitrate which you set in the ATEM software control. It's still going to record H.264 compressed video files whereas the Hyperdeck can record in Apple ProRes and other higher quality codecs. Either way it's a good idea to have a hyperdeck backup because if the SSD recording fails, you've got nothing.

Hi Zephan, thanks for the video. Using playback how do you get the sound into an audio mixer?
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 6 ай бұрын
It’s not very easy if you’re doing it with a hyperdeck. I now use Mitti on a laptop for most of my playback. Blackmagic assumes if you use a hyperdeck you’ll either use their built in mixing capabilities in the atem or there are converters that convert SDI to audio that they sell to get 1/4 inch audio out.
@thecommsguy.
@thecommsguy. 6 ай бұрын
@@zephanmoses thank you Zephan! That’s a pain. My list of converters seems to be growing rapidly! Upon reflection do you recommend the Hyperdeck Plus for key and fill and record or do you think best option just go with the normal Ultrastudio HD for that and the Hyperdeck Studio HD mini for record?

Hello and blessings I need your help. How can I connect a camera with an atem 1M/E constellation Hd and a hyperdeck studio hd plus? And what micro converters do I need to use?
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses Жыл бұрын
It completely depends on the camera. What camera is it? What outputs does it have? You’ll see to run hdmi or sdi out of the camera to the constellation and then you’ll connect one of the constellation outputs to the hyper deck. I can’t tell you what converters you’ll need without knowing if your camera uses hdmi or sdi.

A major problem we have discovered is that it records in rec 2020 not rec 709 so if you are editing with Adobe premiere that does not supported rec 2020 you have a lot of color correction to accomplish. If I am wrong I would love guidance.

If I use the SD card slot to playback videos, do I need to use the HDMI input on the Hyperdeck, or would I only need to use the HDMI output going to the Atem? The reason for this seemingly obvious question is that I'm completely baffled. I tried what I described, but i wasn't getting video playback or audio, but when I plug in the output from the Atem into the input of the Hyperdeck, I then am able to see the video going into my Atem's input and hear the (AFV) audio. I am pretty sure that I'm not confusing the input/output, but I'll try again tomorrow and see if I get the same result.
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 2 жыл бұрын
If you have a video file on a SD card in the hyperdeck, the hyperdeck will play video over the HDMI (and SDI) outputs. So you must attach an HDMI cable between the hyperdeck and your atem. If you are still having issues be sure the video file on your sd card is in the same codec/format that your hyperdeck is set to. Typically I make sure all my video files are Apple Pro Res LT in a QuickTime MOV format. Then I make sure the Hyperdeck is set to record in Apple Pro Res LT (even though it’s not recording but rather playing back a video). All videos on the SD card should be the same resolution, framerate, codec and format.

Hey Zephan, Great video! Have you experienced any issues playing back audio over HDMI into an Atem Mini? Seen a couple of negative reviews on bhphoto, this would be interested in you personal experience?
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had an issue. A lot of the time people just forget on the atem minis that they have to turn on audio for that input so I chalk it up to 50% user error and 50% actual problems.
