How could we set this up in a regular home setting? I'm trying to figure out what to connect the band to. Thank you for any ideas!

Hey Sue, you can grab a little door attachment from Amazon that you can attach to the band 😀 amzn.eu/d/am8N49V

Question: you are creating tension in the posterior chain here, to try and train the muscles to maintain tension in the foot in normal life. So, my question is, should a person with flat feet then AVOID stretching the posterior chain muscles in order to avoid allowing those muscles to relax again? Or is the idea to progress onto heavier loading of the posterior chain in which case stretching becomes ok because the work performed in enhancing the muscle tone will be far greater than the relaxation affect of stretching?

Hey Dunz, Thanks for the comment. Much of what used to think happened during stretching has been debunked over recent years. So, there’s no need to avoid stretching particular muscles. Utilising the band as a tactile cue, and in this case, also using an angle that works the posterior chain, just allows a person to feel and connect to tissue that they normally couldn’t. Many of our Hypermobile clients have issues with being able to feel and work certain tissues. Stretching the rear chain isn’t going to cause any issues in regards to the foot archers, but lack of connection will.

@@Thefibroguy ok thanks, apprecaite you responding. i teach exercise and see alot of what looks to me like hypermobility and yes, it does seem like many people struggle to "connect" as you put it. I like how you framed the issue of hypermobility and stretching/body awareness in your blog post too, seems to make sense to me. Seems like the exercise industry needs to get more clued up on these kinds of issues.

Definitely, and with all change it takes generations. Unfortunately, I feel the current research for hypermobility has gone the wrong the way and will take a huge course adjustment to be corrected.

Thank you for making this video! I will definitely try this. My question is, I’ve had pain and a fallen arch in my left foot forever and it’s just now starting to affect my right foot. I’m waiting on an EDS diagnosis right now, but my right arch has been hurting so bad with minimal activity. Should I still do something like this? Will exercising with the pain make it worse or better?
