This is one of my favorite John's Arcade videos & after moving to the Denver area, I made it a point to go to Hyperspace every so often. The place had a bunch of rare shmups & unique vector games; I loved it. And the live music nights (synthwave djs) were excellent. I think the main issue was you had to leave for food & drink, so Xlya had to make money upfront using an entrance fee/freeplay business model, whereas a place like 1up makes their money from alcohol & food sales. Unfortunately Hyperspace shut down early this year.

Watching through these older vids. Loved the era in which she sticks to on her games with a really nice mix of late 70's early 80's machines. Xyla's tastes in games are definitely similar to mine, with special appreciation for the SHMUPS like Xevious and Astro Blaster, but especially Darius which is literally my favorite game, and Space Harrier which is probably my second fave. I have two MK machines that were stored in a non climate storage unit for a few years, and the coin slots were starting to rust.. I did pay $1000 for the MKII machine back in 1996, and the same for the UMK3 machine in 97.. Got them at the local arcade in the mall that was recently torn down and replaced with an outlet shopping center.. Back in the 1990s when I lived in a house that had a garage with windows that had no glass, just steal bars, and the garage was always very hot, or very cold in the winter.. I also live in Florida.. Back in 1996 I had Shinobi, in a very neat Sega Cabinet, a TMNT, and a Double dragon machine I found all on the local newspaper classifieds for like $100... They all eventually ended up pooping out after a year or two due to the high moister climate.. Sadly in 2000 when I moved out of that house and had to live on my own, the machines went to the road seeing how I didn't know even where I was going to go.. I called my friend that was into video games and told him, those games are in front of my old house, and come and get them or else they were going to be in a landfill.. I believe he did come and get them as I noticed they were gone before trash day... To this day I wish I still had them.. I still have my MKII, and UMK3 machines that's in a Williams Smash TV cabinet.. The monitor needs recapp on that is it went out in the 90s when it was in my room.. I did keep my MK machines in the house since I was fascinated of them.. I haven't powered on the machines since 2001, they have been sitting in storage for over 13 years..

Hi John :) another great video as always. I got my two 60 in 1 pcb's yesterday in the mail for my two cocktail machines I got off my dad and my 10 year old daughter Shelby and my 7 year old son David really love playing it :) We really don't have much room for many games in our house so that's why I went for the multigame pcb. I did get a stand up poker machine from my dad that im putting a 401 in 1 pandora's box V2 into, but my wife Kathleen did warn me that if I brought any more machines into the house she will divorce me LOL. I did use dell 19" LCD monitors in my machines but I was worried about using them because I know from experience that using monitors like these that you have to view them head on because if you weren't viewing them directly that the picture can fade, like if you were viewing them from the side or at an angle, but when I powered the game up the picture was great from all angles :) It has taken me a while to finish these machines, what with work commitments etc.. but it has been well worth it. I have to thank you John for inspiring me with my projects and seeing them through to the end, and because not only introducing my kids to these classic games but also for me to play games I haven't played since I was a kid :) We look forward to seeing more of your videos and keep up the good work.

what some people don't realize about space ace is you never have to transform into the big version of the main character. in fact the game is easier if you don't even transform. when the prompt to transform pops up just don't do anything and it will continue on as the little guy.

Miranda should play Space Ace on "Space Ace" difficulty instead. Ace adds three new levels (Junkyard Crusher, Checker Tunnel and Rocket Skates) not available in Cadet or Captain difficulty. On "Captain" they just repeat a few of the levels in mirror mode. Not really extra challenge if you know those levels.
