I got myself a venus fly trap last year and I have been feeding it flies all year but recently it has looked like it was dying so I googled the plant (poor basterd should have done that sooner) and I was super surprised it kept living for so long as it did! I never used distilled water and I actually repotted it in normal soil. I felt a bit stupid so I have repotted it again in special soil meant for it and I got my self a Sarracenia oreophila because I am determined to be able to properly care for them. Could you maybe show us how to feed them and more importantly what to feed them ? I just fell in love with these beautiful plants !

i'm so excited to see how it turns out. The only concern I have is with the D. Pulchella because of it's very sensitive root system. I think that If I were to do something like this, I would use the gemmae of the Drosera to add them to the terrarium. Otherwise, very helpful and detailed information that is beginner friendly and welcoming!

I may have missed it, but did you do anything special to support the interesting topography? Or once the plants get established will the roots prevent the hill from slumping down or eroding away from any top watering you may do?

More moss and rocks in between for aesthetic purposes would look great! Noticed the cephalotus precariously on the "cliff" part, which will look cool when it grows but hopefully doesn't wash off (noticed it move when you sprayed it)

Welcome to the hobby! Retailers on the internet are the best way to get the plants, as most nurseries online have enough stock and working capital to provide a "live arrival guarantee".

I appreciate those words! I figured it would help the success if the plants originated from similar locations (only the Burmannii 'humpty doo' has confirmed aussie genetics though.) Best growing.

I may have missed this in either this video or the last one, but how often do I need to water the terrarium? Also do I just water it purely from the reservoir? I made a terrarium but missed the care-taking instructions.
@HypnoticExotics
@HypnoticExotics 5 жыл бұрын
I water the terrarium about once a week, filling only the reservoir. I do topwater on occasion, but that's really just to clean away any mold/spores and crud from the surface.

Thanks for the feedback! It's a kerosene siphon. I found it for 8 bucks at Ace Hardware. I would highly recommend the motorized version, hand pumping gets old.

How do i transport a pitcher plant from the forest?? Im in need to save it since its rare around where i live so i want to preserve it by taking it in. How may i do this help me please. Thank you! Do reply me a.s.a.p before the forest near my house get torn
@HypnoticExotics
@HypnoticExotics 6 жыл бұрын
I would highly recommend contacting your local authorities and wildlife officials regarding this. Although your intentions are good, I would never recommend taking plants from the wild without a permit or license. If you can obtain permission, you would want to have all of the supplies ready (tree bark, sphagnum moss, pine needles, etc). Majority of commercial plants are shipped bare-root with wet paper towels around the roots, this method could suffice for your transplant.

Sure thing! They're still coming out of dormancy at this time, (Colorado winters are rough) so a video of those will be coming later in the year. I do intend to get a LARGE haul of VFT's and Sarrs from Cooks this month, so be sure to keep a lookout for the unboxing video, and potting tutorial.

so far so good, only improvements I can see, is to explain what you are doing a little more in depth, like why did you cut the first plant with a butter knife but the last plant you took out all together in one bunch? but still amazing job and extremely informative. keep up the awesome work!!!
@HypnoticExotics
@HypnoticExotics 5 жыл бұрын
Awesome comment, thank you! To answer your question, by cutting the plugs of U. Sandersonnii into strips and spreading them out (the butter knife just made this task easier), it promotes a more thorough distribution of the plant within the terrarium. The last plant (C. Follicularis) has extremely sensitive roots, so I removed the whole bunch as to avoid disturbing them too much, then carefully removed the remaining soil by hand. Hope this answers your questions!

the easiest most common drosera is D. capensis. also the most dramatic in it's movement after the VFT. do you own any books on CPs? if not i can recommend 'the savage garden' by peter d'amato. tip: if you feed them rainwater instead of distilled or osmosis water they will not need to be fed insects.
