+Sabba Sarishvili -- I was a skeptic about hypnosis, so I actually volunteered to be one of the subjects for the hypnosis stage show at Magic Mountain (this was like two decades ago). I was starting to fall into a trance, but not wanting to lose control made me fall out of it. So, what I learned that day was that you have to really WANT to be hypnotized, in order to make it happen. What's fascinating is when hypnosis is used for treatment, and you can even perform it on yourself (i.e., self-suggestion). It's just like building a muscle--you get better at it with practice. I like the case studies of people who underwent invasive surgeries, and in lieu of anesthesia, chose hypnosis. They were awake during the entire procedure, but didn't feel pain, just the probing of instruments. You can google it if you're curious to find out more.

Assuming it was real (which I don't think it was) it's probably because Josh wasn't an ideal hypnosis candidate. Hypnotists look for specific qualities that make someone ideal for hypnosis. Josh was likely not a good candidate, and the hypnotist wouldn't have chosen him if he had a choice. So, he wasn't hypnotized like the others. There's often people in the audience who get hypnotized even though they weren't chosen, but the vast majority of people (~95%) cannot be hypnotized.

The difference in response is due to setting, comfort level with the suggestion, and willingness to follow directions. Josh said he was "out" backstage. His "in and out" experience onstage could be due to Corden's involvement or the reactivity caused by knowing you're in front of an audience being embarrassed. Josh, the other gentlemen, and the lady in black are excellent subjects, and none of it was faked, trust me. I know what to look for.

As someone who's actually worked with hypnosis and been hypnotized for fun, this isn't fake, it's just really misunderstood. The stage hypnotist said in the beginning the participants are under their own will. That's what everyone forgets. He's just really good at prompting them into a super relaxed state where they're highly suggestible to do things they normally would never do, let alone in front of a tv audience. Take the woman flinching for ex: she's so ready to just get up and dance she doesn't want to wait for the count. Hypnosis isn't bullshit, the popular conception of hypnosis as mind-control is.

Although this one is completely fake and in an unprofessional way that disgust me, in real hypnosis you don't "sleep" (like the deep sleep phase), it's a very awake state of sleep. A bid like the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase during real sleep, a phase near waking up, also it's the phase where you actually dream and are very open for suggestions from outside, and also a phase where we move a lot. In the state of hypnosis you can move, esp. when feeling uncomfortable, you only wouldn't move if the hypnotists suggests you were frozen, a stone or something like that.

+Clem Scott I think you have to be willing to give control of your brains operation to someone. you can consciously block someone from reprogramming you essentially. and I use the word reprogramming very loosely. it's not totally far-fetched. if you think even when someone is fully aware of things, the power of suggestion is still quite strong, which can influence someones behavior drastically. from what I see it's you letting someone else tell your brain how to react. your brain receives msgs and sends out the signals.

Correct, Hypnotists will cherry-pick specific people known as "somnambulists" (those who react best to commands given under hypnosis). That said, understand there's a difference between "hypnosis" and "hypnotic phenomena". Hypnosis in/of itself is simply a state of mental/physical relaxation (Alpha daydream-like state of mind (1 of 4 states of consciousness)). Hypnotic Phenomena is the experience of the hypnotized volunteer momentarily being mentally positioned in a specific role (such as the host of the Late Late Show). Thus, the hypnotist hypnotizes a group of people making them relaxed (aka hypnosis). The ones who are the most in tune with their mind and respond the quickest are often chosen (somnambulists). The hypnotist provides to give the somnambulist a command while under hypnosis and, because they're so engaged with their subconscious mind, they momentarily believe and take the initiated role (hypnotic phenomena). I've seen hypnotism before, and I believe it's real, just as I believe this is real. Every person acts different when under hypnosis, and it just so happens that a way you can tell is the 'sleep' phase. You can tell when someone's not hypnotized because their necks aren't completely loose. The hypnotist I saw actually went over and sort of pushed one of the hypnotized people's necks, and it just swung. It was completely just relaxed and limp. Here, those people are very similar - their body position is very limp. Even when falling asleep in a chair, people would not regularly slump like that and go all the way down. Thank you for this - it was very entertaining, and I loved it.

trust me its not fake. I never believed it was real until I was hypnotized. I was incredibly skeptical and I never believed someone could be hypnotized. I watched a few videos and I thought it was just people that didn't mind being on stage and doing silly things pretending to be hypnotized. Then it happened to me, I was terrified that it was fake and I was going to have to pretend to be doing all these embarrassing things in front of all these people, but I was truly hypnotized. I had no sense of normality and when asked to do dancing, air guitar etc it just seemed like a normal request from the hypnotist. We were told that the winners of the dancing would get to meet Kate Middleton and Prince Wills, and when i didn't win, and didn't get to meet 'kate and wills' (because of course they weren't there) I started hysterically crying in front of about 500 people. If I hadn't actually been hypnotized, there would have been no way I'd have been able to do any of the things we were asked. Very strange feeling, like being drunk and having this endless confidence, but without having drunk any alcohol. It''s very real, and totally crazy.

Hypnotism is totally real. I agree that some people fake it to be in the shows but there are people out there that do get hypnotised by these things. I myself haven't been, but I know a few people that have. One of them gets hypnotised every time he goes to a show. His wife has to talk to him and poke at him during the audience wide relaxation/pre hypnotism exercises or he will fall under every time. I went to a show in Univeristy and one of my classmates was hypnotised. The guy was not faking it. No way he would have done the things he did during that show unless he was out. There was at least one girl during the show that was faking for sure but there were a bunch that were out. Some people that were hypnotised at the start, started coming out of it during parts of the show and the hypnotist would make them sit down. He was legit.

It's a very funny feeling to be hypnotized. I got zwei session because of my fear of flying/airplanes and it worked so awesome. From vomiting and panic I lost my flight fear completely and flew all alone twice from europe to the USA. The feel of hypnosis I got is hard to describe..I was like in a dream mode. I could perceive the surroundings, I heard and saw everything, but it felt infinitely far away. Almost as if you were in tunnel vision and your consciousness was becoming more and more distant, as if you were about to faint. The only important thing for my brain was the voice and the "commands" of the hypnotist, everything else was completely irrelevant and worthless. A really interesting feeling, very memorable and special.

ZosiaSamosiaOo their personalities did not match the type of personality that is more susceptible to being hypnotized. The hypnotist knew he only wanted 4 people to hypnotize but he chose more at the beginning to make sure the 4 he ended up with would be the most susceptible

Hypnotism and hypnotherapy is a real thing. It's the state of your mind being so relaxed you do what they say because it is so relaxing. It doesn't work on all people however for many reasons. It won't work if you are stressed or don't wanna to do it, you have to trust the hypnotist. So hypnosis is real for anyone that doubts it, it is done as therapy to make people change something they want to change in life such as smoking and it works but not on all people.
