My best content is fueled by stupid peoples comments and channeling it. What do you think about this comparison? Do you see how hypocritical we are when we view things from Russia or the Soviet union? We automatically critique or assume the worst. But when faced with a similar sort of Depiction from the United States, the same sort of accusations don’t come up.

The cold war ended 30 years ago and we still know nothing about Russia and the USSR.

This is such a great point that I feel so often is missed: racism is universal, but manifestations of racism are cultural and vary within countries. Thank you for posting this!

I have just found this channel and I am already sold, the histories, cultures and ethnography of the USSR and Russia’s non “Great Russian” peoples has always fascinated me and yet there is little to no reliable detailed sources on them. Wish you all the best and will follow this channel with great interest. Love from Egypt ❤️

One big difference: One country fought racism and tried stamp it out, the other embraces it.

I thought you would say something like “why is the man representing Russia on all these posters of the brotherhood of the republics always dressed in a business suit, although all the other representatives of the republics are wearing their national clothes?”

I mean… we often *do.* it’s pretty common ime for Americans to complain about our schools and companies “tokenizing” minority workers or students for PR, while not doing anything about discrimination more broadly. So… yes. Both are propaganda and both are rightly criticized for being so.

there's nothing inherently wrong with them being ''propaganda'', the thing is in for what purpose they're being used for: capitalist propaganda is used for the profit of wealthy private individuals, while socialist propaganda is used for the betterment of society and actual social progress.

The difference is that black Americans are still alive and relevant. Can you honestly say that about the purged minorities who never wanted to be Soviets in the first place? The remaining Ingrians will back me up

The modern Russians wiped out the Os Tili language recently. Similiar to what Canadians did to native Canadians a century ago, a decade ago Russians forced the native Os Tili children to go to boarding schools to severe their ties to their language and culture. The Russian teachers badly abused the Os Tili children and mocked them. The children were told that their language is inferior to Russian and they must only speak Russian. Now the Os Tili language is gone forever- that was 10 years ago and the same is being done to other indigenous languages.

This is true about european russians And the English did this to welsh Irish and scots too. There is imperialism patterns and attitudes every where. Both people's share in the mix Viking as common ancestors, whyte Americans too.

@Slavic Melodies what about Kalmyk , yaktuian and others ? The languages are said to be dying out due to standard russian langauge domination, like English taking over other Celtic languages. Not wiped out but dying out due to the domination is mostly the same thing. My kalmyk friend did a dissertation at university on this

@@sara_s_ My friend, you're talking about a language pertaining to an ethnic group of only around 500 people in one of the more remote regions of Russia, and they've been slowly absorbed into other Turkic groups in the area. Most Siberian Turkic languages are doing just fine, but some have very low numbers of speakers because the population speaking them was never very large to begin with, we're talking ethnic groups of less than 1000 people that were in the process of absorbing into other groups even before the Russians got there.

@@tessacyclone6329 Yakut has a speaking population of roughly half a million, and 80,000 out of 180,000 Kalmyks speak Kalmyk. Those seem like very healthy numbers, particularly Yakut. Kalmyk might need some work, but that is for the Kalmyks to do, yes? There are far more endangered languages in Russia, like Aleut, Yupik, Kola and Kildin Saami, and Ingrian as examples.

@@tessacyclone6329 I recently watched a video about the English language dominating the Celtic languages. It happens in many parts of the world as you said.
