Thank you so much Dr. your video was so informative, well explained & very easy to understand. I have chronic moderate Hyponatremia, I get the headaches, bad muscle cramps especially legs, feet. It switches around which muscle, plus fatigued, weak, feel little dizzy lightheaded...I drink lots of water & had been drinking lots coffee. When I get those symptoms I add 1/4 tsp of salt, I mix equal parts sea salt & iodized salt. I add that to 4 oz water & drink it, then follow up with 2 or 4 oz plain water. Within 15min to 1/2 hr I feel better. What I didn't know was that in chronic cases you can get osteoporosis from your body compensating and moving salt from your bones to your blood. I have been dealing with this on & off for over a year. I have cut back on the water & coffee, but I must need to cut back on water a little more. Your video is exactly what I was searching for today. Again well done, can't thank you enough!!

So you use Celtic sea salts and iodized salt? Low sodium levels range from 132 to 133 I use Celtic Sea salt so I'm wondering what I should do any advice
@maga83075 жыл бұрын
I wnt to my doctors because of low energy and fluid in ankles. I had strange sensations like I wake but cant move or feeling of floating. Really weird. And feeling drained. So I went for blood test and that same night I got call from consultant telling me I need to come into hospital. I was put on a drip by a male nurse. Few minutes later a nurse came in to check it and took me of the drip. She told me I was given pure sodium by mistake which could have caused brain damage. Thank god that nurse came in. Saved my life. My sodium levels went down to 119. Was kept in for a week. Wasnt allowed to drink much fluid. Got exrays done for kidneys and liver. I wasn't feeling sick. I just had no energy. After a week I had to cut tea down to 3 cups a day. I had to keep getting mine checked every couple of weeks until it went up to 135-140. I still have to keep getting it checked.

What a good explanation of hypronatremia. My sodium level recently tested at 128 due I’m sure to my taking in too much fluid (soda, tomatoes, watermelon, etc.) which I tend to do in the summer. I have none of the symptoms mentioned and realize now that my level was moderate and chronic. Following my Endo’s instructions I cut back on those fluids and did bring my levels up to 135 within a few weeks. I’ll have to put a note on next summer’s calendar to remind myself to watch my fluid intake.

I had a seizure a couple of weeks ago because of low sodium. My head hit the ceramic floor, which gave me a mild concussion, and I also split my lip open. This is a very serious condition, so please make sure you are getting enough sodium from a source such as celtic sea salt, NOT table salt. No one should ever eat table salt. It is missing most of the trace minerals that are important for proper hydration.

Did you adjust? I went back to following my tongue (minus about 20% since I smoke and that dulls taste), and I haven't had any problems. All my symptoms vanished. I tried no added salt to my wfpb diet and it was catastrophic for me. 80/40 blood pressure. I learned I am naturally hypotensive. I got my genes tested and they told me I'm naturally hypertensive so I thought cutting out all added salt would be a good thing. My BP was 110/70 on a heavy meat diet (3 large serving of meat a day + one serving of high saturated fat dairy a day with confirmed and true genetics that make me have a VERY poor tolerance for saturated fat meaning High blood pressure etc), and thought this was the right move. I upped my salt to 4000mg today and my symptoms resolved within three hours (dizziness, nausea, faint, feeling like I'm on an elevator when I'm not, digestive issues, nerve issues, tingling and shooting pains, burning sensation in veins, fainted three times, and had to go to ER three times. They told me my BP was waaaaay too low but I watched some videos saying 80/40 is where we should be and that 120/80 as normal is for animal based diets and was pushed by animal agriculture industries. I believed them since calcium DV recommended by the US government is twice what it should be, and a few others as well, since dairy leaches calcium from bones and makes your levels really high - cover up, I believed them.) No. I am naturally hypotensive and even if you aren't like me where I actually need 3000-3500mg of added salt a day, you still need a lot. Not too much, obviously. So it goes like this: salt to taste. If you are a smoker like me, salt to 80% taste. If you burned your tongue, salt to 50% taste. If you are a smoker and burnt your tongue, salt to 40% taste. I'm sure there are more exceptions, but you're smart, you'll figure out the percentage. Anyways, take care! I know how horrible you felt.

A no sodium diet? That's very dangerous. Doctors are really ignorant. They should be telling their patients to stop using table salt and use celtic sea salt or Redmond salt instead, since they contain all the trace minerals that table salt is missing, which are vital for our body, especially magnesium. High blood pressure is generally a low magnesium problem but doctors aren't taught this sort of stuff because they are taught which drugs to prescribe instead of investigating WHY a patient has a certain condition and addressing that.

I worked construction for years in summer heat. low sodium was always an issue. I kept dill pickles and V8 veggie juice in the cooler and usually several of those salt packets like you get at fast food joints as a backup when needed or if my friends needed a little. Works great to stop the shakes and increase your physical strength a bit too. I also found that Chicken or beef liver gives you a definite boost [iron] when the work gets really heavy. Osteoporosis occurs by increasing the osteoclast activity in the bone because the body thinks there is low calcium in the blood so it will increase the osteoclast activity in the bone and increase the calcium level in the blood …..by this increased oesteoclast activity there will be increased Rick of fracture …. I don’t think it’s related to sodium…….

@kapila19976 жыл бұрын
The blood will be less salty comperaed to the brain fluid----> water will go from blood to brain
@drandrasfazakas6 жыл бұрын
Very good question! Hyponatremia means a low amount of Sodium in the blood. Imagine a brain cell next to the blood stream. If the concentration of sodium is low in the blood, then water will tend to move from the blood into the brain because the body hates when there is a huge difference between concentrations of 2 spaces. Therefore if we move water from the blood into the brain cell, the concentration in the blood will not be so low. But this will unfortunately cause Brain edema, since the water is in the brain instead.

In this video I explain how the water moves from cells into the blood when the sodium or glucose is high in the blood. Water will move from the blood into cells when the opposite is true, meaning, the sodium is low in the blood, thereby the water will move into cells, since the tonicity is higher there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWObqKptmJWLZ6c

I usually don't consume much salt if any. Kept getting more and more thirsty despite urinating more often clearer and clearer. Weight continues to drop. Started licking some salt and headaches, muscle spasms, extreme thirst and dry mouth gets better. Stopped drinking water and had more salt and weight slowly returned to normal. It's very hard for me to tell if I am dehydrated or overhydrated because in both circumstances I deal with headaches, spasms and extreme thirst. I can only think the symptoms of hypo and hypernatremia are very similar and you'd only know if you tracked your fluid and urination frequently.
