Hypoparathyroidism NCLEX nursing review of hypoparathyroidism pathophysiology, symptoms, causes, and nursing interventions. Hypoparathyroid is the low production of parathyroid hormone by the parathyroid gland. This parathyroid disorder leads to hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia. Signs and symptoms of hypoparathyroidism include paresthesia, positive Trousseau and Chvostek's sign, tetany, and lab values that reflect hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia. Causes of this parathyroidism disorder include thyroidectomy, low magnesium level (hypomagnesemia), autoimmune, or the body is resistant to PTH (parathyroid hormone). Nursing interventions include monitoring airway, lab levels, vital signs, initiating seizure precautions, ensuring high calcium and low phosphate diet, and administering medications as prescribed by the doctor. The goals of medication treatment in hypoparathyroidism are to increase the calcium level and decrease phosphate levels.

RegisteredNurseRN, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your guidance and teaching. My class and I have struggled through Med Surg II and sadly, have had a horrible teacher. We've had a failing average as a class and on our last regular exam of the summer, Endocrine, our teacher refused to lecture and left it up to us to self study. The majority of my class watched your videos and received high B's and A's on our endocrine exam Tuesday. This is the highest scoring test we have had all semester. Now several students who were failing are passing the class going into our final on Monday. Nursing school is hard; it's supposed to be hard. Thank you for being there for students who struggle with nursing programs that are more than hard, but are not fair. We owe you so much! Our was told that we had the highest ABG test scores they had ever seen. We thought that was funny because all we did was" play tic tac toe" during the test. LOL! You are doing an amazing service to the nursing community. Your hard work has helped my class.

First of all, WOW! Your comment really made my day because the whole goal of my channel is to help you all and knowing this channel is actually doing that makes me so happy! Please tell your whole class I'm very honored to have helped them on their endocrine exam and with ABGs (I laughed when you said "play tic tac toe"...at least solving ABG problems can be fun haha) I'm so sorry to hear about your class experience, and I bet you are glad it is coming to a close. I'm just so happy I could help you all because I remember how hard nursing school was, and I seriously want to just help you all get through it so you can take your talents and passions to the bedside and be there for your patients. Our patients need us more than ever, and we must know our material (so why not make it easy to understand). I hope the final goes well on Monday, and that you and your class can continue to utilize my channel, especially when prepping for NCLEX. Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment, Kelsey....you put a smile on my face!

Thank you! As one who has Hypoparathyroidism, I used to mix the 2 up until my cardiologist actually cleared that up for me recently. I was born with it when I was born with DiGeorge Syndrome. About 5 years ago my calcium levels dropped really low. They had always been low but not low enough to cause a seizure. Well I ended up having my first seizure and had more seizures over time and got diagnosed with epilepsy. My vitamin d and calcium d levels are back up to that normal range around 8, they will probably always be around that. At one point my calcium levels dropped around 4 which is very dangerous. I was having so many tonic clonic seizures as a result of that. I am now almost 2 years seizure free! I am monitored every 6 months by my endocrinologist and neurologist (and other specialists as well).

I've been watching your videos and I can't believe how helpful you've been. I'm an aspiring murse and just started my core classes for my ADN program, super excited! I do have a small tip that your watchers might love. If you took a high definition picture of each one of your boards for all your upcoming videos would be very useful. Being able to watch your video, download/print the picture and have it wherever would be great. It would also spread the word more about your you tube channel and help more nurses out there. Imagine all your colorful boards on Pinterest. Just a thought, thanks again for posting these!!!

Ive just been told i have hypoparathyroidism but my bloods dont tie in with this? My pth is low 0.99 pmol, my phosphate is lower end 0.97 mmol/L but my calcium is 2.41mmol/L. Vitamin D is 183 nmol. I am getting a lot of under eye twitching which is now 24/7 and pins needles. Can this dtill be hypoparathyroidism even with these blood results, many thanks 🙏
