👋🏼 Hello Friends! In this statistics video lecture we learn to calculate and interpret a hypothesis test for the mean (one sample t test or student’s t test) working through an example and exploring all the steps and components of a hypothesis test. "We don't know which one is true but we can decide which one is likely" (...) "we have evidence to belive that the alternative is true". This is the essence of hypotesis testing". Very very good! We missed a course like this.

Absolutely love your videos. You explain concepts so clearly, best explanations I've ever come across. THANK YOU!

Prof. Marin, Thank you so much for another great video. There are many stats courses on KZbin, but yours is different. You can bridge gaps in understanding that I didn't even know I had.

Donnu why it is divided by the standard error instead of the standard deviation... When do we use one or the other?
@hussienali65614 жыл бұрын
Please , I can not understand how you plotted the curve on which you tested the null. You used the hypothesized value as the mean with the sample standard deviation to plot the curve..

I have to know. Are you writing backwards on glass or is there some other mechanism st play. If you are writing backward I am impressed!!!…lol.. videos are great!

Great video...small doubt Is a hypothesis always based on population data? I mean just like population BMI
@marinstatlectures5 жыл бұрын
in general yes. usually we are using our sample to try and test some statement about a population.

Hi Sir, please clarify why did you use 2 for t value instead of 2.064? as per T table for DF = 24 and alpha .025, the t value should be 2.064.
@marinstatlectures3 жыл бұрын
I just use the approximate value of 2 for simplification. In reality you would do this with software, not by hand, and software will use the exact t value. I’ve actually completely stopped using the t table in my teaching as it distracts focus to be on an old fashioned table instead of staying focused on the concepts, which are most important

@@marinstatlectures thank you so much for your reply Sir. the idea that i am trying to understand each point that's why i asked. thank you AGAIN :)

Hello Marin, a big-big thanks for this great lecture series. I have a doubt, t-value for df =24, 95% alpha one-tailed appears to be around 1.711 hence we should reject the null .It appears either I am reading the table wrong or I am missing something. need your advice..Thank you once again
@marinstatlectures5 жыл бұрын
you are correct. this is the conclusion reached in the video. the only difference is we calculate the p-value and compare this with the standard alpha of 5%, while you are using the "critical value" for the test statistic... but reaching the exact same conclusion

DOUBT: How the Z value is calculated here, can you give me a hint. Unable to comprehend.
@kinjalvora33524 жыл бұрын
You either look up the table or use excel.... Since the alpha is to the right. either you go... 1 - t.cdf(2.08, df) or you can probably also do t.cdf(-2.08, degrees_of_freedom)

p-value is required to be explained
@marinstatlectures5 жыл бұрын
if you wanted a more detailed explanation, we have a video focussed on explaining just the p-value here (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaDNlKyeeJx4jMU). this video is part of a series of 2-minute videos that explain the different components of a hypothesis test, focussing on the concepts and not the calculations
