As a person who had my thyroid removed 30 years ago due to cancer, I would like to add (around 6:26) another cause for low TSH is doctors changing your dose! I started on Synthroid .150 for the first 20 years. I've had so many problems with this over the years. My doctor took me from .112 to .100 recently and just got labs done only to find out I'm so low, I'm not even in the bottom of the suggested range. Anyway great video

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2022. For years, I was having difficulty losing weight, but my mom just chalked it up to my diet, and my doctor kept saying that I just needed to eat healthier and exercise more, even though I was already very good about doing both of these things. Finally, in 2022, my doctor's office ordered some bloodwork, and when the results came back, it showed severe hypothyroidism, and I was immediately prescribed medication, but so far I have not needed to be admitted to the hospital. The doctor who was simply telling me to exercise more and eat healthier left my doctor's office before she really had a chance to figure out what was really causing my weight gain, but I'd bet that if she had been my doctor for longer, then she might have taken the possibility of thyroid problems into consideration, especially since I kept telling her that I was already very good about eating healthy and exercising regularly.

So glad you provider finally ordered bloodwork and determined the cause of your weight gain!!

@@LevelUpRN If I were a doctor, and a patient told me that they already were very good about eating healthy and exercising regularly, then I would begin to consider ordering bloodwork for the patient after the first couple of times they told me this, just to rule out issues with their thyroid, or other organs responsible for weight.

@LevelUpRN hi, one night a few years ago, the stomach flu kept me up all night, and while my main symptoms resolved within a few days, my appetite was irratic for several months, and I ended up losing nearly 30 lbs during this time. I went from 157 lb to 128 lb. Once my appetite returned to normal, I ended up gaining back all of the weight that I had lost. When I had Covid last August, I could barely tolerate any solid foods besides Ritz Crisp & Thins, and I ended up losing approx. 25 lb, down from 177 lb to 152 or 154 lb. However, this time, I was concerned about consuming more solid foods once my appetite returned to normal, because I remembered what happened last time this happened.

Last year I trained for a marathon and was excessively tired (napping daily) and felt overall terrible. But I was so motivated, I pushed through and ran the race. After I completed the training/ race I still felt terrible so I went the doctor and had my TSH taken and then retaken and I was diagnosed with Hashimoto hypothyroidism. After taking Synthroid for several months my blood work was better. I still felt bad, but after several more months I started feeling better. It's wild how terrible one can feel when their hormones are off!

I need to go see you. Your so cool. I'm having increased pulse and bloodpressure as soon as I stand and it dosnt go back down untill I lay back down. Been fighting this for over a month. Some doctors think I have PoTS, or pheochromocytoma, or carcinoid syndrome. A good 90% just brush it off to be anxiety. My hope is diminishing and no test done because I cant leave my bed. My hope is 0%

I have found that the so called normal ranges for T3 and T4 don't apply to most of my women friends who have all the symptoms despite normal test ranges. Those tests almost always show normal ranges. But the reality is that normal levels actually vary per person. So a standard normal range does not apply to that specific person. I dont even use those tests anymore. I go soley by symptoms.

Lol my dad has hypothyroidism and right when I hit 27 I guess my metabolism just slowed down so I'm like you I kept going to the Dr. Being like yep must be my thyroid 😂😂😂 the more I learn about it though I'm so greatful I just have to work a little harder instead of it being hypothyroidism because these side effects sound terrible and if I already am lethargic I don't think I could hangle the extra issues !!!
