The dermatology statement about the UK is true. Me and most people around me don't even know how to contact a dermatologist. Honestly, if someone told me there were none in my city I would be like "really?" but I wouldn't be surprised...

The UK has lots of dermatologists! You find them the same way we have to find every specialist. Go to your GP with the problem, and they'll do first-line treatment, if that doesn't work then they refer you on to a dermatologist. It takes a while to reach this point if your skin condition isn't super serious or wide spread. By the time you get referred you're seeing consultant derm, so they're more used to treating the more serious end of the spectrum, where as if you go private you can be seen for smaller (but no less life-affecting) problems such as acne and rosacea.

@@Gigglypeach I had extremely bad eczema (my skin would peel) all over my body for years and my GP never referred me to a dermatologist she would just prescribe me a different cream each time for years, I also tried seeing different GPs and it was the same. and there's not much information about private derms available. at best I could google but there's no way to know if they're reliable. at least that's my experience.

@@Maddy45805 I'm sorry you had a bad experience, that sucks. I was just trying to describe the way it should work - the NHS is great, but it's bad at long-term care as you can attest to. And I agree, private is just as unhelpful. My brother was referred to a dermatologist for his acne as a teenager, but I wasn't because we had different doctors, even though we had it the same. Really does just depend on what doctor you see and how they decide whether you get referred or not doesn't it.

In the UK a lot of Dermatologists in the NHS tend to deal with more serious skin conditions such as skin cancer - it’s largely difficult to see a dermatologist for skin concerns like acne unless you doctor is willing to refer you. When I was a teen I had a really bad case of acne which my doctor prescribed a lot of creams that didn’t really work 🤷🏼‍♀️ luckily my skin has settled itself 😊 but it would have been good to see a dermatologist

I wish I knew about proper products and skincare when I was a teenager. I had oily skin and hair, but I wasn’t prone to breaking out. I had deep pores and clogged pores. I used ‘oxyclean’ astringent pads, and even though they got the dirt off my skin it burned my face, it was awful and I avoided skincare because of the experience. I found your channel because I was desperate with my 30 year old self to smarten up with my skincare. Since I found your channel I’ve learned a lot about my own skin type, and other important things that I never thought about like barrier repair and what different products do. I am now using a combination between The Ordinary, The Inkey List, and CeraVe. I can’t believe how much different my appearance is now and how youthful my skin looks now. I think you saved me from prematurely aging. Thank you for all you do Hyram! 💙

I totally relate to James- the doctor looked at my face for two seconds when I took my mask off, prescribed me tretinoin and that was it. It has been almost a year and has done NOTHING. It’s so weird to hear you put a price on a “normal” doctor’s visit. I’m German, and see a dermatologist once a year, just to have my moles checked, and ask any questions I may have about break outs, dark spots, etc., and it costs nothing. I’m really happy we have a partially socialised health care system.

Thanks for the great vidoe Hyrum. You and James together are a magic combination. I love you both! I think it is important for people to research what actives you should not use together. For example, one company that I recently started using a lot of products from was recommending to use two retinoid products together and then apply a lactic acid product over the top of it. You are not supposed to use acids with retinol. The company has great products, but are clearly more concerned with selling you more product than if their advice will damage your skin by using too many actives in your routine.

I'm using the same cleanser (Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp hydrating cleanser) as James and I liked it since I have dry skin and eczema prone skin, the cleanser is really gentle and it doesn't feel strip off after washing it off and I'm on my 6th bottle now! I think this cleanser is suitable more for dry skin since it retain the moisture on the skin but of course, this is just my opinion! :)

24:00 The problem with CeraVe for me isn’t that they’re “too simple”. It’s because they’re not cruelty free. That’s why I rather buy The Inkey List or The Ordinary, for example. They’re also affordable and pretty “simple”, in the sense that I know what I am getting.

The deviant cleansing balm, is my absolute favorite!!! Not only does it work amazing, BUT it smells like opening a bag of nuts.
