It is insane the prices that they charge nowadays but it is a business and they rather hit a homerun on customers and charge alot in the 1st meeting instead of trying to win your business for life.. that is a reason why I make videos like this for the do it yourself people and to give them some knowledge about cars..otherwise we are stuck paying astronomical prices...Thanks for the compliments and Thanks for watching too...

NGK PLUGS has a great DIY article on plug replacement and I am glad I read it you guys did a great job. In the old days it was common to put a light film of oil on the threads and today modern plugs require no coating are antiseize nothing at all the chrome finish on the threads is designed to be used dry with no lubricant.

Nice video. Small correction. You still want to check gap and adjust if needed with iridium plugs. The difference is that you need to use feeler gauge or wire loop tool. You can not use a coin style tool as that could make contact with the fragile point of the plug and damage it.

@@trudylambert8775 why do you need to change them? Did you break them or are they causing a misfire? You only change them when they go bad and it will give you a check engine light for a misfire..but if you do want to buy them, Autozone has a lifetime warranty on theirs and that is the better deal. I know you can find them cheaper online but you can't beat the warranty if you plan on keeping the car.

You should probably use a torque wrench for spark plugs. If you've done it enough times you might be able to get it spot on just by feel with a normal ratchet but if you're inexperienced you could easily torque them down too much and cause a nightmare by damaging the threads. Its unlikely but you *really* don't want that. Also you'll be able to change your own wheels with your fancy new torque wrench too and be confident you're not going to lose a tire at highway speed 😁

Why don't you apply dielectric grease to the coils?
@alyoungcuda
@alyoungcuda 6 ай бұрын
Thru the years of working on modern vehicles , the factory doesn't put it on and the contact point is too far in the boot..so if you even put it on, its on the tip of the boots and once installed, it only contacts the sides on the tip and it never reaches the tip..on the other side if you put it on the spark plug tip, then it gets lost in the spark plug socket boot and it most likely won't even be on there either. And if you do it long enough in the spark plug socket, it will attract dirt and make the contact worse..im sure you can use a long skewer to fish it down without touching the sides, it will be like playing the game operation..😆

Help plz ....Hello thank you for your video it is great. Today I'm replacing all four spark plugs and I'm replacing my third and fourth coil. I do have a quick question. After I put in all of my spark plugs, I put in my first and second coil just fine and put the wire back in place and the gray piece locked just fine. However as I mentioned I'm replaced my third and fourth coil and I went ahead and push that wire piece back into the spot after I screwed the bolt in on my third and fourth coil yet for some reason I cannot get that gray clip which locks it, to go back into place. Or in other words I can't get it to go back down or slide to the left so to speak. Do you know why that would be happening? Do you think it would be because I bought new coils? I just went to Smyth's automotive and I definitely did get the kind of coils for my 2017 Hyundai Elantra that belong with it. Lastly, is it okay to drive my car if that gray piece is not locked into place? Or will the coil wires somehow I'll become disconnected and I'm out of its place?
@alyoungcuda
@alyoungcuda 2 жыл бұрын
Nothing to worry about, the plug will not come off. As for the lock its because of the manufacturer of the coil, they sometimes have alittle burr on the plastic part that might be too thick or in the right spot to clip on..if you look real close you will see the problem.

@@alyoungcuda thx a bunch! I finally got them to click into place but that was after having to use the end of a screwdriver to hit on it almost kind of like a hammer. Another question, did your check engine light go on or was when it needed a new coils? My check engine light is on & I do not know if it's supposed to turn off all myself or if I'm supposed to get it reset. Also I'm trying to find out how I will know if this will fix the issue or not. The other day if I got a reading print off at AutoZone... Which I have heard that does not always necessarily tell us exactly what the issue is.. but nevertheless it did tell me that I'm having a misfire from cylinder 3 and 4. I have 80,000 miles on my car so I ended up putting new spark plugs in as well as putting in a new coil in for the third and fourth. I do not know how to describe this maybe correctly but last week I started experiencing a little bit of latency in the shift of the RPMs or like say if I am in second gear it seems that it takes a little bit to go to third gear or fourth. The RPMs show at a too and you won't hear a shift like if I'm going up a hill. It's an automatic. Typically something like that would level out pretty quickly but it took a good 30 seconds or so after I got to the top of the hill. Also experiencing more gas consumption. Then the other day my checking in light went on and then rumbling under my hood and lastly I turn it on again and it was struggling to turn over. I knew that I needed an oil change really badly so I went ahead and changed my oil before I did the change of the coils today and the plugs. Whatever help you can give me I would really appreciate it. I do not know much about cars at all. Im a young woman who's been doing this practically all by myself with the help of videos. I appreciate it! :)

@@unohooclanunohooclan5945 the best thing to do for yourself in this case is to go purchase a scanner that reads and clears codes ..that way you can verify the code and clear it. Since the old code was cyl 3 and cyl 4 the codes should be p0303 an p0304. After you did the repair, you can clear the codes..Autozone or any of those parts places will not clear it for you..I think the cheapest code scanner is around $30.00 . And yes a misfire in the engine will give you that lack of power you described.

They were nice and did it once before , the manager did. So I'm hoping they will again tomorrow. So are you suggesting that they clear the codes and then run it again afterwards? And if it fixed it then it should not come back up again right? After it's cleared?

Might have the wrong size socket, try the socket on your new spark plug 1st, then you will notice that as you turn it slightly and push down, it will kind of sit onto the plug and you will feel it, the 1st turn to remove will and should be hard..if not, then you missed it and didn't go down far enough

@@alyoungcudawhat if I accidentally got the wrong gap for my spark plugs? I thought I had the 1.4T engine but it turned out I had the 2.0 engine. What part of the engine would it mess up, making the car fail to start? Asking for a friend...
@alyoungcuda
@alyoungcuda 11 ай бұрын
@@hamznaq6953 depends on if you gapped it bigger or smaller than the manufacturer states, but in most new sparkplug when you buy them, they come with a gap and with the iridium plugs you technically don't gap them. But just saying, if you gap it too big, the electrical spark would need to jump further to complete the spark, comparing jumping over a 1 foot puddle on the floor to jumping over a 2 foot puddle, it works but you might get wet. As for gapped too small it can cause the spark to be smaller or the flame smaller because it was so small of a jump. Some affects can be a misfire, running rough, bad gas mileage. If its a tad different, you might not even notice it, do you really think a shop is that accurate in even checking the gap? Just saying..
