I own an i20 mk1 1250cc G4LA 2 Door sport. Similar car as shown. Dissassembly of the locking nut is a nightmare. AVOID! - unless you know what you are doing. Instead, undo the two bolts on the strut connection to the wheel hub then pull out the axle from the gearbox. Far far easier for anyone attempting this at home. Plenty of play and room once the strut is hanging free. Pro tip: Hyundai developed these cars (2 door like mine) for Finland 2014' WRC2 Rallying. It's why they are simplified to work on! ❤

Love pulling the box on the i20s, any hyundai/kia is a joy actually. Every single one I've done has been straight forward with no unnecessary faff in the way 😂. 1 tip though for when your filling it, put Dexron 3 ATF fluid in and your customers will thank you for it 👌
@GhostLead65Ай бұрын
Really? in a manual box?
@ifoundmytvАй бұрын
@GhostLead65 indeed. At lower temps, dexron 3 flows better than manual oil making gear changes smoother and ensuring the gear sets get coated faster. At higher temps it holds its viscosity better than "manual oil." The ATF also doesn't have any additives that could potentially eat away at the syncros.
@khalidacosta7133Ай бұрын
@@ifoundmytv If there were no drawbacks... the manufacturer would have used it from factory fill....
@-DC-Ай бұрын
@@GhostLead65Not uncommon for Manual Transmission to use ATF believe it or not, I'd always stick to what the Manufacturer Recommends though on a Customer Car.
@ifoundmytvАй бұрын
@@khalidacosta7133 the manufacturer also decided not to use corrosion proof hardware... I've been a gearbox builder my entire mechanic life. I've filled thousands of manual boxes with Dexron 3 and done dozens of tests (with my own vehicle) and I haven't had one issue using the ATF in a manual.

How easy is the clutch if you are working on the road? Do you need to pull the offside axle? Can it be done on ramps or axle stands under the body?
@FingleshamАй бұрын
It would have been interesting to see the mileage of the car and if it was the original clutch. A 2010 car is likely to be original if owned from new. My 2020 Piccanto is now on 62K and clutch seems fine but I am only 77 . That guy has 19 years on me . Can't believe I'll last that long. Goodness know what motoring will look like in 2043!

It does not show how you pull the drive shaft from the gearbox. There is a rubber gaitor attached to the gearbox at end of the drive shaft with a clip around it. Does it just pull off the gearbox when removing and push back on when assembling?
