Definitely second that suggestion the US already has the hatchback version being the new Elantra hatch. The fastback is all that's needed and I think it could present competition for Audi and BMW as a budget fastback. One that already is from Hyundai is their subsidiary (if I'm terming that right) is KIA with Stinger GT. Two fastbacks making them money is the way to go I believe the market in the Us would treat this car well especially with the N trim.

@Francois Gultig ...Honestly in USA we get the civic hatch and focus rs which are too boy racer. Then we left with the gti which has iffy reliability. Wish we had this for more mature folks who want some fun for cheap.

Great review.Yours truly is a VERY happy owner of a red i30N hatchback.Even with the imminent arrival of the DCT gearbox, the 6-speed manual is the more engaging drive for both the hatchback and the fastback.The white,along with the grey,are the colours that best match the fastback IMO.The 2 N cars from Hyundai are truly the ‘Golf GTI killer’.

I have a Veloster N--and love it to death--but I'm not going to lie and say I'm not still jealous that I'm not allowed to have the i30N especially now that it has a fastback version. One of the best looking four doors out there, no joke!

I would pick that over civic type R any day. As 2019 Hundai is like Toyota. Great quality and very reliable as Toyota. Easy for maintenance. Parts are fairly cheap to rebuild.

Toyotas reliability has taken a dive over the past decade and they never really ever were very good quality, which is completely different from reliability. I would say Hyundai has Hondas Reliability and Volkswagens Quality.

It's not a twin turbo. It has one turbo, it's a twin scroll design which reduces lag. You'd think a car media channel would known the difference.

if the veloster N come to AU, it will definitely be a hot bargain. The shortage of i30 N is the look, just too similar to the normal i30, especially for the front look, not aggressive enough and unique like the type R which you can notice its a hot hatch at the first glance.

I30 Fastback N is more mature than I30N. I am from Sweden and waiting for the release of the Fastback this or next month, than i will grab one of those :). I wonder how fast will the 4WD automatic be 0-100km/h. 4WD/8-speed dual clutch will be nice but it will also be more expensive...I think the automatic should get more HP.

Are the safety features still available with the manual transmission? Here is US/Canada Hyundai/Genesis remove all of them with the manual trans. I wish they would import the i30 Fastback N instead of the Veloster N, as long as it has the front limited slip. When will Hyundai make a Golf R challenger?

Why is it called a fastback? In the 1990s this would of been called a lift back. Fastbacks have always had two doors and have had a rear end like a station wagon.

I don't like the proportions of the side profile and the rear looks like everything else on the road. Being the owner of a compact hatchback, I do understand very much why this would more appealing than the traditional hatchback, because of the extra space in the back.

Rear roof is lower making it not so good if you have taller (5.8ft or taller) rear passengers. Rear windows seem higher too giving less light inside the car. Most of these not bought as daily family cars though. Fastback was raced against hatch and the hatch was quicker around a twisty circuit. Cars were raced in each suspension setting and hatch won (just) every time. Same driver drove both cars. Red stitching on seats doesn't look as nice in the Performance Blue car as it did in the older hatch. Also Fastback doesn't look as nice in Blue as the hatch. Metallic grey suits both very nicely.Its personal taste which you prefer just like the Mercedes A Class hatch and saloon. Fastback softer suspension was nicer on normal street with pot holes etc. but do you buy a car like this for comfort or the thrill of driving a car that connects your spine to the tarmac? Most other modern cars are boring to drive but that's personal choice again.

Yeah, the Fastback looks better than the hatchback, but neither this nor the Golf GTI are the best among the sporty compact cars. The Ford Focus RS is not only visually more present, but also driving dynamic. Only the A-class AMG could compete with it, but it is even more expensive.
