Would you make the switch with the Hyundai Kona Electric?

We are about to go from a non car household to a Kona Electric Premium 64kWh household. Very much looking forward to it. And, we do not have the ability to charge at home which has been a huge factor in what car to buy.

I like the Kona EV so much that we drove from NC to GA to purchased one. On 02/05/22, I bought a 2019 Kona EV Ult with only 207 miles on it. It was a "demo" car. On Sunday, 02/06/22 car died on me twice!! I was at the dealership first thing Monday morning. The bad thing is this - I LIKE the car. The drive back from GA was very nice.

I own a pre facelift version of the Kona electric and found it to be a very efficient electric car with a great range. My car also has a heat pump as standard this adds to effective range of the car i’m not sure why they made the heat pump a option on the refresh car.

I really enjoyed this review it was really really informative and interesting I’ve just got the kona I was originally getting the smaller battery in premium trim but have now decided after watching this review twice over the last few days that am going to get the 64 bigger battery in premium trim instead it has everything I need. I really want to thank you for explaining all of the features in detail and how to achieve the best running mileage from my new car . I’ve never had a new car before having always had manual petrol this will be strange and my car now is a 2006 so any new car I’ve sat in looks amazing. But with prices rising everywhere and only using my car once or twice a week I feel after watching this video again I’ve made the right choice. Thank you for making such a well detailed and in-depth review. From the way the video was shot and edited even down to your voice and the cost figures everything was done really well 👍🏻👏🏻🤩

I've been advised to charge to 90-100% on AC charger because this will result in fewer charging cycles (assuming the same mileage) which will in turn preserve the battery for longer, in the long term. That's the benefit of a bigger battery capacity besides longer range. What are your thoughts on this?
@Gripfall1Ай бұрын
I think that’s not good advice. Charge cycles are not counted like that. Two charges from 0 to 50%, say, count as only one charge cycle. The battery will last longest if kept around 50% if you can, e.g. by keeping it in the range 40 to 60%. Avoid having it below 40% in any case, as below that, the 12V battery won’t get charged. Charge to 100% occasionally, say once a month, to ‘level’ the cells.

Enjoying this video after only a few minutes. Something that grips me though is the whole "external noise system" thing. EV "nay sayers" for years have been going on about the dangers of silent vehicles but, as a kid, i remember being taught the green cross code where you don't just step out in to the road because you can't hear anything, "look left, look right" etc etc. Darwins law is applicable to pedestrians that step in to the road without looking to see if its clear. Again, really enjoying this video so far :)

My wife is disabled and needs higher seating than found in most hatchback style cars. I never see the seat height mentioned in Kona reviews. Could you please comment on how you found the seat height? Thanks for an otherwise excellent review.
@Smiler72 жыл бұрын
Difficult to measure Mike, as the seat can move up and down a good way. My wife has the same problem, and she says the Kona is the perfect height. The seats are smooth too, with no stiff side pieces. If I were you I would pop into the local Hyundai and try it out. I have looked at changing to other cars like the Model 3, but the seats are not right.

Bizarre how the word "affordable" is used the number of years, when it's not affordable at all. I recall buying cars at half the price like what, 10 years ago?
@Veyron_fan5 ай бұрын
The switch to basically entirely selling cars on pcp to give back means RRP prices basically mean nothing except as a way to make the car look more attractive when the salesman tells you it's massively big price but then says you can have it on pcp for half the monthly cost of buying it and then give it back. Which is a massive false economy. As for the price increase, I bought the last Peugeot 208gti in 2013 less than a year old for under £13k. That was a car that brand new was £20k. Fast forward less than 10 years and the new peugeot 208 GT (there isn't even a gti) had gone up to over £30k!!! How can you have over 50% price inflation in 1 generation of the same car 🤷
