I just aquired a 2016 Sonata SE. Does not have Navigation. Will I have Navigation through Android Auto? Also, do I have to go through the whole download process if the previous owner already did the download?

How do you get the Android Auto app on the Hyundai? That step was skipped.

It's pre-installed into the system, so all you have to do is connect your phone via usb cable.

ioan ghip Just bought a '17 Sonata SE last week. I'm digging it. Looks and handles great. Just enough fun gadgets to keep me and passengers entertained. And great MPG as long as you drive with a light foot. But will move if needed.

You can get CarPlay as a software upgrade now. You can do it yourself through the MyHyundai website to a USB drive and then install it in the vehicle.

Awesome video. Read some scary reviews on Android Auto on Google Play, and this video really put me at ease. Question - I have the exact same Hyundai Sonata 2016 as shown in this video, equipped with Android Auto. Do I still need to download the Android Auto app on my Lollipop Samsung Galaxy phone?

Be aware... car play doesnt work with older Androids. My Galaxy S3 will not connect. Has to be 5.0 or higher.

what is the point of Android auto and apple play? Most cars have Nav, CD or USB stick for music or bluetooth connect .

My experience, Android auto is much faster with navigation and new update points compared to your cars built in navigation.

+Tommaso Castelli Thanks! Android Auto uses Google Maps powered by your smartphone's GPS. Hyundai models equipped with Hyundai's GPS navigation can use that as well, but not within Android Auto's interface. (Hyundai navigation comes in handy in areas lacking cell service.)

You are correct. Google maps does allow users to designate an area (up to 46,000 square miles) and download the map information for offline use. This would effectively solve the cell service dilemma if the user was dealing with a particular trouble area and could prepare the offline map ahead of time.

+Tommaso Castelli according to google some stereo/ infotainment systems with built in GPS can use that instead of the phone GPS, saving your phone from having to do the work there. Presumably google maps on the phone feeds from that GPS unit in those compatible systems, can't speak for Hyundai and if they are using that implementation on vehicles with a GPS module. I can already see that Hyundai is not using the full implementation of android auto (and thus will need another dealer firmware update) as the last button (the one he shows early on that lets you return to the Hyundai interface) is also supposed to pull from the car's built in computer and show maintenance tips, oil change recommendations, and so on. This is not something possible if you get the aftermarket systems from pioneer and others.

Car UI's shouldn't be that distractive. You should focus on the road, not the screen that much time.
