Shep in Florida here. I am on my 4th Hyundai since 1989. I'm still driving three of them. I'm an airport transportation driver and currently have 114,000 miles on 2013 Hyundai Sonata (i45 in Europe). Here in the U.S. we say that Korea is the New Japan and Hyundai certainly has proved that. Great review, I'll probably consider a Hyundai SUV for my next transport vehicle.

Good to hear you’ve had a positive experience. The Koreans certainly are the new Japan in that regard and in many ways, we feel Hyundai and Kia eclipse most Japanese cars in dynamics and design nowadays.

I have the 2018 model limited with the 1.6 turbo, and I love it, fuel efficiency is awesome, love the ride, I may update next year but no need at the moment, I like what they did with the new interior, I think the only difference between 2019 and 18 is the grille, headlights, tail lights and infotainment screen, everything else looks the same, great job By The Way, keep up the good work.

This CUV is considered one of the best in its class by the auto industry experts in the US and has won various awards and accolades. Unfortunately, Hyundai USA decided not to offer the torquey 1.6 turbo with the DCT transmission for 2019. I had heard it was due to the average CUV buyer not knowing what a DCT was and it’s normal operating traits. Such as slight jerkiness during low speed driving and parking due to the transmission operating the clutches as in a true manual. Hyundai USA still offers this engine/DCT pairing in their fabulous Elantra Sport and their unique but funky Kona which leads me to believe it isn’t a durability/reliability issue with that setup. The fact they went with a 2.4 and torque converter equipped auto leads me to believe they did so to satisfy the avg American CUV buyer who has no idea what a DCT is and were likely complaining about the low speed characteristics of clutches being engaged and disengaged. DCTs do this super quickly, but it still has to physically work the clutches. Many avg American buyers might not even know how to drive a manual car these days as fewer and fewer cars even offer them. It was ballsy of Hyundai to offer this performance setup in America where the the take rate on manuals are dropping yearly. Maybe their N division will offer a performance DCT with their 275 hp 2.0 turbo in a Tucson N. Offer a loaded Tucson N for under $40K and that would blow our minds in the states where a loaded Camry stickers at almost $40K.

i drove one, it drives fine and for the money its priced cheap. One great improvement would be to put a steering wheel equipped with epoxy topped wood grain matched wheel which would outlast any leather in hot climates such as well "Tucson" If you put any black leather wheel on any car I guarantee it will look like hell if in Tucson after one year! To prevent that I always look for an upgrade epoxy equipped steering wheel because I live in TUCSON.

Hey Tom! Very professional and concise job! Congrats! Your channel is very helpful! I’m having a hard time deciding between this Tucson 2019 and the Qashqai 2019 (I saw you didn’t review that one yet) because both have very nice improvements, in Costa Rica the difference between the Tucson Prestige and the Qashqai Limited is around $6000 so the top of Qashqai is closer in price to the mid version of Tucson. I drove both of them and I found the Qashqai gives a nice driving experience because of the CVT engine and actually didn’t have the chance to test the Tucson in a very good road so I really can’t decide yet. Would you mind to give me your opinion regarding those 2 in their 2019 versions? Regarding the materials, driving experience, engine and extras? Thanks again man! 👌🏻🔝
@chasingcars6 жыл бұрын
The Tucson is definitely the more refined car. Interior materials, infotainment, availability of CarPlay/Android Auto, and suspension tuning are all superior on the Hyundai. However, the Qashqai is sized really well. Test drive both!
@mariocr19466 жыл бұрын
The 2019 Qashqai has Carplay/Android Auto too, I drive tested both and the CVT engine of the Qashqai gave me a better driving experience, but I think you’re right, the interior looks cheaper in the Qahsqai, also it doesn’t have sunroof, only glass roof but you can’t open it, doesn’t have a fifth luxury tire rim. The main problem is that the top versions of both cars have a difference in price of maybe $5000, thanks for the answer! Are you going to review the new Qashqai 2019 soon?

@chasingcars6 жыл бұрын
Fair call, though the Kodiaq is rightly regarded as a 5+2 seat medium SUV, it’s quite a bit smaller than a Santa Fe, it’s close in price to Tucson, and the shared Tiguan underpinnings mean it is an important rival. The same could all be said for Karoq. Really, Skoda have two SUVs competing in this space now - Karoq on the smaller side of Tucson, and Kodiaq just on the larger side.

What did you mean by unsettled on smooth roads
@chasingcars6 жыл бұрын
As is typical for current Hyundai suspensions running the Australian tune, the Tucson never completely settles down on what appear to be fairly smooth surfaces. The secondary ride (how the car deals with small road imperfections) is busy. On smooth roads, you shouldn't feel much from below you, but you can feel the suspension working away even when it should be settled. It's not so bad in the Tucson - it's worse in the Santa Fe.

@chasingcars6 жыл бұрын
One reason is that it’s a lot better to drive, with superior engines and handling, than those two cars - in our view, at least!

With trade -in I can get the new Forester S, top of the range, $10 000 less than the Tuscon. Is it that much better?
@chasingcars6 жыл бұрын
It depends if you care about a torquey turbo engine, a really nicely tuned suspension, and little things like cooled seats like the Tucson has and the Forester doesn’t. In fact, Foz doesn’t even get heated seats these days in Australia. For us, a Tucson Highlander would be worth more than a Forester 2.5i-S - at the top end the Hyundai makes a lot of sense. At the low end, a Forester has more safety tech etc.

why always do the top of the range? why not get real and do mid range as that will be the highest seller. To me this put me off and just switched you off.
@chasingcars4 жыл бұрын
It's a fair question. The reason is so that we can show all the available features in one hit. When you review a base or mid grade, there are missing features we have to mention but can't show. In addition, in many vehicles - including some medium SUVs - the top grade is the best seller in Australia. I concede that is not the case for the Tucson, but the Highlander is not far from the highest share of sales.

Huh?? a 1.6 non turbo???? base model is a 2ltr direct inj 122kw petrol 6sp auto, the Elite model gets a 1.6turbo with 136kw (but unfortunately has a DCT manual trans that some drivers can't get used to) and the top shelf Highlander has the 2ltr turbo diesel with 8sp auto......... anybody with a brain would have taken a test drive to determine which model/engine best suits their requirements.......... are you sure you even bought a Tucson?? Ps I have a 2ltr GDi 6sp auto 2017 Tucson Active and it is perfect....... plenty of power, great fuel economy (unless you are an idiot), quiet inside, roomy without being externally obese, comfortable and refined and a great price. Only criticism is no AEB/Cross Traff Alert etc on base models.....but Tucson is still very well equipped in basic spec.... Sorry to lean on you so hard.... I'm still perplexed about the 2019 with a "1.6 non turbo"? I'm thinking you got the DCT 1.6T model and you'd rightly be disappointed with the transmission (its basically a manual transmission) - some love it, others hate it (turbo lag, transmission lag in auto mode (?)etc etc ). I hope you find the right way to use that DCT (others report they like it so there must be a technique to use it properly .....Hyundai wouldn't have brought it to the market if it was worse than the VW DCT).
