I'm from Spartanburg, and I am old enough to remember when the trees hadn't grown up along that steep grade - the one we call the Saluda Grade - and you could see straight off the right side as you came down the side of the mountain... the views were great.

I love that entire area from Asheville down into Upstate SC. I lived in the area as a kid. This video makes me want to move back. The area is built up enough to have everything you need, yet you don't feel like you're on a treadmill as much as in a bigger city.

Wow I can't believe I've never seen this video of yours. It has gotta be one of my new top 10 favorites Idk what it is but this just looks like an amazingly fun drive. Not to mention the weather and lighting came together great in this clip.

Bravo! That was great, thankyou so much for the ride on one of my favorite stretches of highway. I used to live off of SC Hwy 11 which was the next exit you were approaching at the end of your video.

This was such a pleasure to watch. I could just feel the elevation changes and the curves, watching his. Those Appalachian Mountains seem to have a never-ending supply of fun roads to drive. Interesting song, too...I just downloaded it for my own enjoyment.

That ride was truly beautiful, with all the vibrant colors and everything. Amazing upload!

Amazing colors in this video. The freeway reminds me somewhat of Germany or Belgium, long lines of trees with little view to the surrounding area.

I take this road all the time, but the stormy lighting and early spring scenery are beyond compare. Notice how it looks earlier in the season in the North Carolina mountains, but when you come down out of them into South Carolina, the green is more intense. That is a wild ride down the mountain, and quite curvy too! Nice driving music.
@eggdaily Жыл бұрын
half of that greenery is still in nc as it takes awhile to get to sc after you go down the mountains

Traffic always backs up going up the hill near Saluda on I-26 on Labor Day weekend when I go home to Tn from the Shelby hamfest. Trucks can't make it up that hill and back up the traffic. Always take my cb radio to see what's going on. Gets in the high 90's in that area. Makes for a long drive.

I have a question... I just came from a trip to the Smokies, going from Tampa to Knoxville via I-75, then to Asheville via I-40, there I visited the Chimney Rock Park and then came down to Tampa via I-26 through Columbia and then I-95/I-4. I saw that the prominent mountains ended just in the border of the NC/SC and expected to see some hills but as soon as I hit SC, I could not see any major mountains again. I remember years ago I went through the NW via I-85 and could not remember well but I think I did not see any major mountains there either, . Does South Carolina have any major prominent mountain? Living in Florida were the highest thing is 300 ft high I certainly noticed that Northern GA, Tennessee west of the Smokies and SC are not flat, but the prominence of the mountains only covered the eastern tip of TN east of Knoxville and the western part of North Carolina.
@Freewayjim10 жыл бұрын
There are some mountains in the far NW corner of South Carolina and north of Greenville along US-25 but no prominent single mountain I can think of and nothing like those in NC, GA or TN.

I've driven on this bit of I-26 at night, and I can confirm, it is not fun. Extreme fog. To make matters worse, the trunk of our car (I was with my mother) wasn't closed properly, and a couple bags of her luggage spilled out onto the freeway.

@Freewayjim8 жыл бұрын
+David Marino There's OK scenery once you get to the NC Border, but the last 18 miles in SC? no...and once you've driven I-70 in Western Colorado you get a different sense of what "mountains" really are. This is I-26 from the border to Asheville. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqKniXeCm6aij8k
