Great video! As a kid, I-30 seemed to be my second home, making many trips from Garland to my grandparents' places just west of DFW. It's awesome to see how it's evolved. I even remember I-30 in the Camp Bowie area before its late 80s construction!

Thank you for watching! These videos are always elevated to a whole new experience whenever there is a personal connection to them. Some of these videos can be very powerful to me, and I say this as someone who's unfazed by most Hollywood productions, lol. Doing research for this video, I saw some photos of the West Freeway pre-construction, it looked deplorable by today's standards!

InterstateJD There is a Toys R Us toy store on the West Freeway. I remember going to that Toys R Us to buy birthday and Christmas presents. Also, I also have memories of the West Freeway. My family and I used to live in the apartment complex formerly known as Churchill Park (Now known as Vieux Coulee). We lived near Green Oaks Blvd and the West Freeway, and we would always go to the Ridgmar Mall located there. I

The lack of Development along I-30 just west of Dallas is due to the Flood plain. Hard to get insurance in a flood plain.

At 1:10 in the video as it is descending down onto the Lake Ray Hubbard causeway, on a clear day, you can see the skyline of downtown Dallas from that point, which is roughly 20 miles out.

Since you went through in March, the construction at the Chisholm Trail Parkway and IH-30 is complete, and the left shoulder has been replaced with an additional lane between the TX-199 Henderson St. exit to Summit on westbound, and from Summit to IH-35W on eastbound. I'm also surprised about the lack of plans to give IH-30 an upgrade in West Fort Worth. Already, the US-377 Camp Bowie interchange is quite the bottleneck going west out of downtown Fort Worth (although the on-ramp from Hulen Street contributes to the problem here, because that traffic has to move over 2 lanes in 1/4 mile or so to stay on IH-30 west), and I sometimes see backups in the afternoon approaching the narrowing to 4 lanes at IH-820. Despite mentioning that the areas west of IH-820 are "rural," there are plenty of commuters coming from and going to places like Aledo and Weatherford. And the Walsh Ranch development, to occur just west of the end of this video, will only exacerbate the problem in the years to come.

The 820 interchange was completed in the late 1980s not 2000. I remember the construction and it being in it's complete form in the late 1980s.

Do you remember that Debate a year ago when a Private Developer wanted to build a toll road from the Bush Turnpike to Greenville to help with the traffic congestion soon to be on I-30 and to help the commuters to get to Plano or Collin County?

I'd rather see a widening of I-30 to at least six lanes all the way from Greenville to Royse City (RC to Rockwall is already happening)

Unfortunately, project Pegasus has been cancelled, but the horseshoe remains under construction. The arches of the interstate 30 bridge are rising, and some off the main lanes of the new interstate 35e bridge are open. Arlington has some news. A 5-level stack will be built at the I-30/SH 360 interchange starting next month.

If you ever post a vid from DFW going west....like to El Paso(or closer) that would be freakin amazing. I wish someone would do a Fort Worth to El Paso timelapse. The changes in geography/topography are fascinating and show off the natural diversity of our great state.. Sht I might have to do it. Haha!

I've noticed that lately, the air around the DFW area is starting to stink because of all the increased traffic. I'm thinking about moving out because it is getting more grid locked with houses and traffic and development. Used to be a nice place to live but the money hungry developers and city councils have ruined it. The air pollution only gets worse on hot and humid days.
@InterstateJD7 жыл бұрын
Tell me about it. This last weekend was weird as hell, with the almost Beijing level of smog going around. I suspect a lot of that has to do with changing weather, etc, but it sure is indicative of the type of development that goes on here. Oh well.
@horseman5287 жыл бұрын
Too much traffic in too small a space. Nothing against the people, but its just the way things are. Eventually if this keeps up it will get too unhealthy to live here. It will become like Los Angeles or Beijing.
@InterstateJD7 жыл бұрын
More like too many people with cars in too big a space. If the area was built in a way such that it was easy to walk/use transit, this level of pollution probably wouldn't exist. I realize I say that, as a comment on a freeway video, that I made, lol, but you can't really deny it.
@horseman5287 жыл бұрын
True, but that is not going to happen any time soon. Too much arguing over allocation of funds and too many people with their hands out thinking their cause is the only one. Plus over half the people are physically unable to ride a bike or walk. Try and build a mass transit system and people go running to the city govt. shouting, "Not in my district!"
