I-35 in Greater Austin from FM 1431 in Round Rock to Slaughter Lane in South Austin, filmed in the early morning because that is basically the only traffic-free time along this route.

Beautiful. The early morning light makes the whole atmosphere much more pleasant.

Thanks, and I agree. I've been on this road at pretty much every literal time of day at some point in my life, and this road at 7 am is a whole lot nicer than it will be for the next 14 or so hours on any given day.

There are plans to put a large part of I-35 underground near the downtown area - basically inside a tunnel with a park above ground.

If you have the chance, it would be interesting if you did SH-130 on the southern two segments.

If I had the footage I totally would... but I don't think I can top ScrewdUPClickV2's work anyway. 85 mph is still in the future for me...

I was referring to his specific video of both those segments :P It's not a huge priority for me unfortunately, but I'd like to drive and film it eventually. Im lucky enough to still have a lot of projects left . thanks!

Hey JD. I saw your Little Rock videos about a year ago, and ever since I've been interested in road-timelapse videos. I made my first one today, could you check it out? It'd be much appreciated man. Keep up the great work!

It's way late but I had a look. Other than the typical freewayjim group's collective "get the hood out of the frame" response I'd say you're doing a fine job for just 2 videos. Of course, as you make more everything will come more and more naturally.

Thanks for taking the time to look and I really value your input. Unfortunately the dash cam I have has a wide angle lens so getting the hood out of the shot is pretty much impossible right now. If my channel gains more popularity I'd look at purchasing a camera. Thanks so much!

Austin, TX with the tallest interchange in the world?? I can't manage to find any information on that
@rjc6466
@rjc6466 7 жыл бұрын
I believe the producer is specifying the tallest point from the lanes of SH 71 up to the tallest flyover for that interchange. SH 71 is depressed below ground level creating the ~122 ft. The High Five on the other hand is ~120 from ground level.

Thanks for the nice video. What I don't understand is that in the Houston and Dallas metros, freeways expansions (and new freeways) occur at a rapid pace, while in Austin things happen at a snail's pace. Must have something to do with TXDOT's priorities, which I haven't figured out. All of Austin's freeways are a nightmare, especially I-35 and Mopac.

Well Austin only has one major interstate running through it which is odd to me and is less than 1/3 the size of Houston and Dallas which are growing fast. Austin is also a fast growing city but the one time I went there I got to say that their freeway system is pretty pathetic for its size and significance and also for being a city in Texas IMHO so I agree that more should be done there. Maybe because of lack of sprawl and generally just being overshadowed by Texas's 3 largest cities?
@zachmatt3

Austin actually has lots of different freeways and a large number of tollways, but it takes forever for them to get built. And the designs are almost uniformly terrible for such a heavy traffic city, which I think we agree on.

The traffic problem has nothing to do with TXDOT. It has to do with the Austin City Council. Go back to the 1970s. Austin was a sleepy college town with the state capital. The city council wanted to keep it that way. They thought that if they didn't build the highways, the people and larger businesses would stay away. Well, it didn't happen. Still, as the city population started to explode, the city refused to allow expansion of the existing roadways, and even wouldn't allow building of new highways. When the city does permit a nice highway to help move traffic, it isn't long before there are traffic lights up all over the place, and there again is nothing but traffic jams. I have lived here since 1979, and I moved north of Austin. I have no need to go to Austin, and avoid it as much as possible. I just got tired of sitting in traffic all the time.

I think that Austin would eventually need to have more interstates that go to Downtown Austin or around the city of Austin. There are routes, but they might have to evolve to interstates to accommodate more people in the Austin metro area.

nope not enough room. when they make new highways they are all tolled!! so then people all cram into the free roads and thats what creates a mess.
@forceinfinity

And to add to the complications, many of those toll roads are ran by private companies and more often than not, the have clauses in their contracts that would prevent the state from adding any freeway routes that "competes" with the toll road

Awesome video you have here sir. I was there in Austin just a few days earlier myself and created a video from downtown to Round Rock in the evening time during rush hour but it is no near as cool as this one. It's good, but, WOW! Everything seemed perfect about it. I'm not saying all this just to get people to see my videos but, hey, I could use just little boost on views and subscribers. I love time-lapse but I just don't have time to get out much except in my local "boring" region of Texas but that's not stopping me. Watching great videos like this one really motivates me. I subbed and WILL share, regardless if you even LOOK at my channel. Keep it up!

Did you know that the reason they are called "motel 6" is because when they opened it only cost $6 a night to stay at them? Now that's a nice rate :-D

Lol, blame inflation. But back then they had coin operated black and white TVs in the rooms as well. Motel 6 certainly is a decent chain though, especially for the price, with fairly consistent locations

Heck, Austin and San Antonio might become one huge city along the I-35 corridor. Austin's sprawl goes south to San Marcos, and San Antonio's to New Braunfels, with only 15 miles between them. San Antonio-Austin Metroplex?
