Nice video from one of my older son's favorite places, Kyle and Austin in the great American state of Texas. Kyle, Texas is still my hometown and the headquarters of my public franchise, as I'm living in Ooltewah, Tennessee for a couple whiles.

The entire 35 corridor between San Antonio and Denton is definitely close. There are a few breaks here and there still, but its certainly filling in.

Both San Antonio and Austin, TX's metro areas border each other. San Antonio's metro area consists of 8 counties while Austin, TX's metro area consists of 5 counties.

I was in Austin, Texas in July helping with We Drive U & I've been in Brenham, Texas helping Durham School Services. I was in Austin today to eat & meet up with a woman I had met in Austin in July, I've visited the LBJ Library in July which I recommend visiting, very interesting.

Looks like there's already LA-style traffic, at least southbound at this time of day.
@mattwiser84062 жыл бұрын
Good one! While in Austin, did you have a look at the LBJ Library and Museum? Last time I was in Austin: Drove the lower part of the double-decker on the way to San Antonio and did the upper part on the way north... Did that one on a Sunday and there was a LOT less traffic.

My sister lives in Kyle which has grown alor in past few years or so. I plan to stop in Johnson City Sat when I drive back to Lubbock, Texas to visit the LBJ Ranch which been years I had visited but this will be my first visit since Lady Bird Johnson passed away.

Yep! I-35 traffic in Austin is a pain. Coming from the north end it felt like California with the stop and go starting in Round Rock.
@asrr62 Жыл бұрын
no it feels like round rock texas not california, if there is a replica of round rock in california, i would stay far away. trash place and people.
@arodgefan5892 жыл бұрын
The fact that I-35 goes to the border with Mexico makes the traffic 10x worse than it should be, all the damn semis going slow and what not. I can't help but feel that if it were on I-45 instead, traffic still wouldn't be great but better than the current situation is.

It's just crazy to me how a city of over one million and a metro of over two million only has one interstate highway that goes through it and it's only 6 lanes most of the way still.
@wrowe25592 жыл бұрын
The city of Austin and TxDOT didn't plan for the crazy population explosion at all. There was a time years ago when a plan to build an east-west freeway across Austin, just north of downtown if I remember correctly. However, residents in the planned area said either "No way" or "Not in my backyard." As a result, you see what's in the video. Also the 130 toll road could easily been a three-digit interstate loop, or the Capital of Texas Highway/SH 360 could have been an interstate with proper construction. I don't see either of those happening in my lifetime.

Now you see why the traffic is so bad.

@@ShirleySerious I've always been aware how bad traffic is in Austin even though the one time I've been like 4-5 years go it wasn't bad.

7:55 That wouldn't surprise me. Isn't the Texas Hill Country mostly limestone, which is prime for the formation of caves (and sinkholes)? Aren't there a lot of caves in the Austin area?

Oh, yes. Austin, TX, the capital of the Lone Star State. We know that's home of UT Austin and the Texas Capitol. By the way, I-35 sure is a busy backbone freeway through the metro area and there are more freeways and tollways in Greater Austin than just I-35 and all of them aren't interstates. The rest are US routes, state highways and state tollways.

I wonder if the state will ever do something about that awful double deck configuration through Austin. Back in the 80s, US 75 in Dallas, which was in dire need of reconstruction, nearly suffered the fate of being double decked in a bid to get it done cheaper and faster. Luckily, the idea was shelved and they ended up trenching part of the freeway instead.

I agree! It's the southernmost state capital in the 48 continental states. Only Honolulu is further south than Austin.
@paulkieferjr51782 жыл бұрын
Only made it to just south of the Palmer Lane exit, eh? Three more exits, then you would have been in Round Rock. I should know. I've lived here all but the first three years of my life (57 years total). Good try, though. I do have to admit that i wouldn't have thought of Kyle, TX as the starting point. Sad fact: Austin is the largest city with only one interstate. It definitely needs an east-west interstate route.

Opposition is brewing to expanding Interstate 35 in Austin. If the highway gets expanded the traffic congestion in the area will be worsened considerably. We are headed for climate disaster instead.

I was just an infant boy when, on 01 August 1966, a 🇺🇸 Marine Corps veteran named Charles Joseph Whitman had conducted a homicidal rampage at the main campus of the University of Texas. From what I understand, Whitman was also mortally wounded on the same day [en.wikipedia.org]. ¶ Anyhow, back in Year 1966, the human populations of the City of Austin, Texas were approximately 250K. And, now, her human populations are 1M≤x 😬😬😬😬😬. How and why has the City of Austin, Texas become ginormous?
