The resin is not just toxic to touch but toxic to breathe. Resin printers contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in higher concentrations than FDM printers. VOCs are gases that can evaporate or leach out during the printing and post-processing stages. In large doses or after prolonged exposure, VOCs can be a potential health hazard. Please do your printing in a well ventilated area!

Amazing work! May I suggest something with resin printing? After you have solidified a model, hollow it again in your slicer (I like 3mm walls) and add some drainage holes. It saves a lot of resin and the solid interior isn’t as fully cured as the outside after it gets its second cure and can still cause splits. I’ve been resin printing for years as part of my job and it’s always a learning curve - you did a spectacular job and should be so proud of yourself!

Yup, this is the thing I was screaming internally too at. With miniatures I go as low as 1mm with walls at times and have not had any issues. This is very easy to do in the same 3D printing toolkit that you already were trying in Blender! It has a tab for "edit", which has a button that says "hollow". Click that and you'll get 1mm walls by default, but you can adjust both the thickness of the walls and the internal resolution (to save on file size). After that hollowing out you only need to make some drain holes to the top and bottom of the model to prevent suction forces from ruining the print. All of that could easily be added in fifteen minutes (once you know what you're doing). I'd recommend putting your resin models on a plate wherever you display these, unless you threw them away after printing. They're both big enough that they will weep uncured resin at some point. From my own dumb first prints, I think one 10cm tall bust wept for the first month after I thought it was cured, because I left it solid. I left it in direct sunlight at a window, without any primer on, and rotated it every now and then until it looked like nothing leaked anymore. For cleanup of the table, I recommend getting an oven tray! Couple of bucks for a metal tray you can remove the prints from the plate with, and handle all the resin-drippy bits. Easy to wipe down and not ruin your desk. They do make silicone mats for the purpose as well, but you can buy a dozen oven trays for the same price and they get the job done.

Another Issue that might have been contributing to print failure was that you were printing in front of a window. I have both and SLA and FDM printer, and I've found that for my Elegoo 1) any UV light from the sun can start the curing process so it would have been better to have the blinds closed until the hood was on for printing. 2) TEMPERATURE can cause warping and failure of UV resin. so even if you opened the binds back up, the heating and cooling sitting in front of the window could contribute to failure, other than those two notes, well done. hope you stick with the 3d printing its a fun hobby.

That's awesome! You got a lot of things right on the first try, considering you never used a 3D printer before, good job! There are obviously some pitfalls in the resin 3D printing process, some of which you've encountered, and which gave you some problems after printing. For example, if you ever decide to print more Minecraft exports (or anything else basically): large, flat areas are bad for the process because they start out as an incredibly thin, flimsy layer of barely cured resin that has to hold itself together and that has almost no structural stability when peeling off the film on the bottom of the resin vat, hence the warping on that one large, flat area. To avoid that, it is good to rotate the model such that none of those areas is parallel to the buildplate, for example, if printing a cube, balancing it on one of the corners and holding it up with supports should help a lot. Additionally, if you ever decide to print some bigger things or things that need to be strong (like cosplay props), I'd recommend the filament printers, since a) they are less messy, b) the parts are way stronger, c) you have way more freedom in certain areas, d) the material is cheaper and you don't have to print your models solid throughout. The resin process is better for miniatures and things with fine detail, that's why people often use it for DnD minifigs and other detailed stuff.

You absolutely have to wear a respirator when working with any amount of liquid resin, none of the various fumes it gives off are safe no matter how you look at it. just PLEASE wear a respirator (made to filter organic vapors at least up to 20x the officially "safe" limit, or you’ll die anyway) or buy a laboratory grade fume hood if you don’t care what money is

big thing about open interior resin prints. make sure you have drain holes. if you don't the pressure inside the build will build up and eventually it'll pop open itself usually leaking resin over the place

Speaking of warping, the best thing to do to fight it is to hollow out the model (2-4mm thick walls), leaving few holes for resin to flow out, and it’s better to put a model fully on support so the burn-in layers (the first ones with longer exposure) will stay as a part of support island. either print with a raft which is basically a angled edge so you can get your blade in easier OR get something like a magnetic flexible build plate that attaches and detaches and you can just bend it a bit and itll pop the models off easier

Air-dry clay separates quite easily from resin prints, but superglue and baking soda is a better medium. (Wear a respirator though!) I'm not trying to backseat, "oh, hurrr durrr, redo the whole thing", just friendly advice for next time!

a bit more on this: the method I mentioned basically welds the two printed segments together, but it sands really well, so it's easier to reshape and sculpt than cured resin, which is relatively soft. Also, it produces a bit of heat, so it's better to use this technique sparingly.

Hey I know you said you just discovered that miniature painting as a hobby existed but I’d definitely look into getting the proper respirator and filters for that airbrush! If you plan on using it long term the paints you use might give you lung complications if you don’t handle them properly with all the spraying. Great video and nice work though 👍👍👍

Nice work! By the way, to reduce the mess, you can usually fit the resin build plate into the wash bucket upside down, then run the wash! Then you don't have to pry a goopy resin covered build off the plate :)

And you can leave all those supports on during the cleaning process too! Just print, place the whole thing in the wash bucket with lots of IPA, then run the cycle. The metal basket for the wash bucket should have a couple places to rest the build platform on

A good tip that I do is to head up a little bit the build plate using a hair dryer and also is good to use a scraper that comes with the printer, just blow some hot air in the direction of the part of the print that is touching the build plate than use the scraper slowly pushing the scraper underneath the printed object.

18:30 it's actually possible to use prusaslicer to separate the parts into a more easily sliceable print by using the "cut" feature and setting it to dovetail and then simply exporting the parts as STL's Hopefully this helps for future problems

Absolutely amazing! Definitely subscribing! I haven't sifted through all the comments so I'm not sure if anyone's said it before, but: I recommend glueing parts together before curing your resin. That way the parts line up perfectly before the cure warps/shrinks things in a way that might make that harder later on.

Oh well, I wish I found your video 2 weeks ago... I searched for exactly that for a while xD Some advices on printing though (You may know these things but maybe not so it's always better to say too much xD) : - Hollow your models in Chitubox (once they're fully solid) with the button "hollow" on the top, it will basically make a shell from your model and save you a ton of resin. You have to make holes with the "dig hole" button to make it works (so there's no resin pool inside). It's hard to explain but I found a lot of tutorial when starting, should be easy to find :) - Print it at an angle to avoid the print sticking too much on the plate ,or on the FEP (the plastic film on the bottom), because the suction could cause it to deform or worse, puncture. - I find removing the supports easier after washing with alcohol+ a small bath in hot water, and before curing. And on the painting (bc I'm one of this "painting way too small figs" nerds) : - The dark to light approach is the easiest, very good call ! You could try a middle basecoat and then highlights and washes too, but washes make things less clean and more grim. You could also try the "slapchop" or "grisaille" approach, wich is using a black to wight gradient and then putting some very thin uniform paints over to give it colors. - To avoid paint pooling like at 21:54 (i'm cherrypicking), try and do multiple thin coats and let them dry between each, even if it starts by looking bad bc the paint is see through. - To make details easier, there are some very very fine brushes that could help. - Making the prints hollow could allow you to try electronics/LEDs, it sounds complicated at first but it's not, and Wylock's Armory made a really good vid on it called "The Comprehensive Newbie Guide to LEDs in Miniatures Terrain". - I encourage you to print and paint some figurines, especially if you like some characters it's so cool to see them like that ! And there's plenty of website like Thingiverse, Cults3D, myminifactory, yeggi etc that offer free stls Anyways (sorry for the enormous text), IT'S SO COOOOOL !! I just discovered your channel and I'm just gonna watch every project xD
