I-405 - Lind Avenue Overpass Demolition

Contractor crews worked overnight from Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, until Saturday, Nov. 4 to bring down the damaged portion of the Lind Avenue bridge in Renton over southbound I-405. In 2022, the bridge was struck by a backhoe being towed on a trailer. Crews will now focus on rebuilding the bridge. Travelers should prepare for nightly closures on southbound I-405 starting Monday, Nov. 27 as they bring in replacement girders to rebuild the span. Construction on this project will continue through the winter and into next spring.

Does the trucking company still exist? And, when will we be able to drive it?

I've driven below this before. Why does the whole bridge need replacement? Why not just replace the damaged girder?

As far as I read and understood, the trucl that hit this hit nearly all griders... There is 13 and hit 7/8

Five of the eight girders supporting the north span of the bridge were damaged, basically every other girder. Removing only the five damaged girders would have been more complicated and costly. It is more cost-efficient to replace the whole north span over southbound I-405.

ah, i see that now. after the 1st impact, the object probably rebounded and bounced causing the rest of the damage@@wsdot

Johansen Construction Company is the main contractor, but Ascendent Demolition is the sub.

Yes, we’re going to replace the severely-damaged northern span/part of the Lind Ave SW bridge. The southern span/part remains the same.

@@wsdotso if that's severe damage, what would ascertain the next level of damages required to halt any vehicular traffic over or under this section after said damage occurred...asking for a friend
