@Ayrlie The highways are very scenic indeed, and about the St. Louis signs, I-24 is a big corridor between St. Louis and Atlanta (I-64 to I-57 to I-24 to I-75), and it has high traffic volumes.

Well, I was a trucker for 32 yrs. So thats why I was asking. But i'm retired now. Irregardless all of that, your comments are reasonable and understandable. I dont drive anymore. So its none of my business how ppl drive. UB

At least trucks drive a reasonable speed in the U.S., in the Netherlands they're governed at 50 mph, yet they pass all the time (and I even understand why).

@FreewayAndrew Nashville's actually pretty cheap compared to a lot of places outside of the mid-south. The only place that comes right to mind that's cheaper is deep in the heart of Mississippi!

@FreewayAndrew The Nashville Metro area is a pretty cheap place to live, compared to most places outside of the Mid-South, with the exception of Brentwood-Concord-Franklin part of Williamson County. The only cheaper places to live that come to mind are deep in the heart of Mississippi and the Bartlesville area of Oklahoma.

@FreewayAndrew In Europe trucks drive 30 mph slower than cars...

@uptownbronze Well, some of I-65 in Kentucky and most of I-75 in Kentucky are 3 lanes each, which cuts down on the left-lane hogging and close-calls.

@FreewayAndrew Tennessee was ranked as the best state for retirement I know someone who moved there from Waukesha WI years ago.

@aswchris The trucks drive 10 MPH lower than the cars, which makes it frustrating if they're in the left lane and I'm behind them.

@dvferyance Well, when we drove on a road in Nashville to get to I-24, there was expensive housing in the area (Brentwood to be exact), so probably from that Nashville is an expensive place to live (I don't live there).

imo the interstates are pretty well maintained in Tennessee and many other states in the south. Hey, by the way, why would some states don't use reflectors on the lane dividers? Three states in the northeast I know don't use them (CT, NY & RI, strange that MA uses them). It makes the lanes hard to see especially during the night in rainy weather.

@alcheng1000 I've never been up in New England so I don't know what those look like.

@Ayrlie Also, shouldn't they extend I-24 to the St. Louis area, so that there would be less traffic problems on I-64 or I-57.

Tennessee interstates got some good driving, with the best being s/o Nashville on I-24 through the Monteagle Mountain, and I-40 near the NC border is also great. The better scenery around Nashville is on I-24, though, as there is some nice hills and valleys north of Nashville along with the last remaining milage sign that still has St. Louis on it (until the mid 1990s, TNDOT used the I-24 control city as St. Louis).

@uptownbronze I don't like when they get in my way or in this case left-lane hog me.

It seems you have had the same bad luck as freewayjim has in Nashville. I think the reason why traffic is so bad is because s many people are moving to Nashville because it's a great place to retire.
