From wikipedia: A water gap is an opening or notch which flowing water has carved through a mountain range. Water gaps often offer a practical route for road and rail transport to cross mountain ridges.

Jim, honest to God, I haven't heard that song in nearly 30 years!! I completely forgot all about it, until hearing it again here. Brings back memories of early MTV, sitting on the couch for hours, watching videos from unknown artists and drinking beer. LOL! Oh yeah, the video? Superb, as are all your videos!

Nice video. Looks like you duck under the Delaware River Viaduct which looks like it's going to be re-built for New Jersey Transit service to Scranton, PA, which would be amazing to see trains going over that beautiful structure again.

Yeah bro most of the state isn't Secaucus. This area is only about 75 miles west of NYC...it's a major upgrade in elevation right after the US-202 interchange just outside of Morristown...which is right where the westbound lanes get filled up on Friday afternoons on the way to the Poconos about 35 miles away.

Great video as usual. I can just imagine the headaches if and when the 6 lane construction begins. The bridge won't be so bad, but the road, especially the New Jersey section - OYE! As was the music (great). "Just Got Lucky" was one of the first records (yes, they still made records then) I ever played on college radio. never thought it would make it to mainstream. Keep up the great work as always!

Thanks a lot for finally filming this! Been curious to see it, since I was a little kid. Even though the scenery can't compare to I-80 over the Sierra's, the hills still look pretty imposing, as you were driving along that bridge. For some odd reason, I was expecting this route to be a lot wider. I can see why NJDOT wants to widen this to 6 lanes; a lot of NYC-related traffic looks apparent. Nice song choice. I'm going to link this to my FreewayBrent fan page.

You're right. Mt. Tammany (the NJ side of the gap) and Mt. Minsi (the PA side) are no Rocks of Gibraltar but they are pretty impressive driving up close to them.

@EpicThe11210 жыл бұрын
You mean the US-22 to I-78 exit 71 extension and Penndot has plans to widen I-80 to six lanes from exit 299 to 310. PA-33's northern end was built in the 1950s and was finished in 2002 to end at I-78 exit 71, and I-80 in northern warren county has best views of the Jenny Jump Mountains from exit 12-28
@Fantech010410 жыл бұрын
EpicThe112 Yes that's exactly what I mean. :)
@EpicThe11210 жыл бұрын
Fantech0104 True and I actually live off I-78 and I-78 in Easton beats I-80 in stroudsburg since I-80's last 11 miles in PA was built in the 1950s with substandard shoulders unlike I-78 (exit 51-75) which was the interstate standard shoulders from the 1980s

@EpicThe11211 жыл бұрын
There is a reason for why NJDOT widens this section of I-80 it's because of Martz lines running a Stroudsburg-PABT route and also they waited for 2012 to Start the Delaware Water Gap widening project because most buses in NYC to do run to the Lehigh Valley and Allentown,PA and Phillipsburg,NJ where most NYC bound commuters live use I-78 East which had a reconstruction project wrapping up this year. This will clarify on why NJDOT decided to widen I-80 in Warren county for 2012-2015 plan
@EpicThe11211 жыл бұрын
they are all minor roads in the area and most people in Stroudsburg area do hear this song or joe satriani on wzzo or 100.7 since this is a rock type song. perhaps load some more videos on your travels
@EpicThe11212 жыл бұрын
Great video, but Freeway Jim must video PA-33 south from I-80 to I-78 since PA-33 serves the connection from the Leigh Valley to the Poconos along with I-476 south serving the leigh valley to Philadelphia.

@StukInBuf11 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if such a feat would be feasible on the PA side... at least from the Broad Street exit with Perkins going eastward. We're talking 1960s' era roadway with not much room for expansion the way it is laid out now. Granted you have New York area traffic that calls for such lane widening. Even so, though, that's going to be a real tough job.
@joetriolo91615 жыл бұрын
Since I moved "down the shore" haven't been out that way in a couple of years but I-80 hasn't changed coming into the Garden State...the first couple of miles east of the toll bridge are a little hairy(no toll eastbound)...especially with a semi inches away in the next lane...but that whole area along the Delaware is God's country...not the Jersey most people think of...some of the best fishing in the Northeast to boot...
@Freewayjim12 жыл бұрын
Not so much property taxes (can you show me where I said Property Taxes? No) the actual cost of a home is much cheaper in PA than NJ-NY....oh BTW in GA property taxes are about 85-90% cheaper than up there.
@Freewayjim12 жыл бұрын
As with almost every big city, property values/housing costs get lower the farther outside the city that you go.
@EpicThe11211 жыл бұрын
first off it would require pa-611 from Portland to del water gap to be a freeway and it will destroy some of the original fences installed on pa-611 a major road from Easton-Stroudsburg via martins creek then they might make pa-611 a freeway from Easton to Portland t end at I-680 if this plan were to occur
