I think you probably got a pretty good deal! A 1.8t without a check engine light has to have been serviced and as long as it doesn’t have rust holes in the body it’s definitely worth saving. If you’re going to keep it then the most important thing with 1.8ts is oil changes and the timing belt
@dominotr7 Жыл бұрын
If you’re keeping - get the cambelt and tensioners changed. Ive just bought a 2004 myself and and put back on the road after 6 years unused. 8 weeks of restoring and maintenance and passed the mot 1st time with no advisories. Well pleased. And i changed the cam belt. Not a nice job!

I've got three of these ... two roadsters and a coupe ... I've had them on my channel previously but haven't really done much with them. They are all quattro 225 .. unfortunately yours isn't a 225 .. and may not be quattro .. I'm sure you will figure this out as I'm just watching the start of the video ... don't be so hard on yourself I've bought many a mistake from Copart too haha. The TT is a much underloved car and I'm a massive fan of them .. I'm confident you will learn to love it. I will say this £799 isn't particularly cheap ... and wouldn't have been that cheap for a 225 ... the last two 225 I have bought have cost me £400 and £500 respectively. Maybe we should do an Audi TT collab at some stage as I need to get something done with mine lol

Have a look at FuriousDriving with re: to headlight restoration, can do it without a machine polisher. If you're going to go to the 'ring, I'd 100% change the tyres, I mean, even if its only to a reasonable mid range, it'll make a world of difference. (I run Debica Presto UHP2's, they're a company who are owned by and make tyres for Goodyear, so they aren't half bad) Also, the underpinnings of this car is the MK4 Golf platform, so control arms and rusty subframes should be fairly cheap and easy to get a hold of 👍

I had a late 2002 225bhp 1.8ltr for five years and absolutely loved it. The little spoiler on the back followed the "moose" test in pre-development (it's worth checking some of those early avoidance videos!) I had very little trouble with mine; a broken clutch cable which was annoying at the time but bullet-proof Audi reliability otherwise. The fuel economy was surprisingly good for a quick car although the traction control can be a little interfering on very twisty roads.... so you need to turn it off to enjoy it. I'm sure it will scrub up well and you'll get plenty of enjoyable use from it.
@briane__ Жыл бұрын
For the airbag light, one of the sensor connectors must be loose, pull off the interior panels and try to find it. Mine was the passenger side near the recliner handle. Also the dash lcd can be replaced, yours doesn’t look too bad but replacing it isn’t very difficult.

A car like this for the price you paid for it (excluding extra costs) is a great idea for people who aren't that handy working on cars but do want to get into it. Could be a fun project to restore since a good clean is half the work for a car like this that still runs fine. (Now i obviously don't know if there's more wrong with it yet but still) This is what Bob Ross would call a happy little accident.

Yes, do more videos! I had a near mint example of a Mk1 TT 225 Quattro. It had been fettled by the previous owner and dyno’d at 398BHP. The lovely thing about it is that it just looked like a gleaming stock example, but had real punch. It was 15 years old and drew attention everywhere it went. I used to higher brand new cars for longer trips and every time I got back in the much older TT it was an instant reminder of how it was superior in every way to standard brand new cars.

Get the oil pick up oil changed. This is crucial maintenance on the 1.8T engine. The 150 & 180bhp models from my experience are usually less problematic than the 225's. I've had a BAM 225 TT for years, now it's off the road while I sort a few issues/mods. All in all they're not bad cars, I've done at least 40k miles in mine and it's never missed a beat. At this age, boost hoses and other rubberised componentry are worth a good look over 👍👍

I think you've done pretty well there! I've bought 3 cars from Copart that weren't obviously damaged or written off ... Two had major gearbox issues and the other a flywheel and engine issue, none were advertised as such, but you take your chances. So I don't buy anything that isn't obviously damaged from Copart now. But, I love to see what turns up and then how good I can make it. You don't often get service history though, my local Copart chucks it away, saying its a GDPR risk ... Hmm. If that drives well, it looks like a decent buy and probably one worth tidying up and dailying for a bit. Looking forward to a driving video!

definitely worth saving, don't go way over budget by sending it to garages or buying dealer part prices, stay sensible. the 1.8T is a great lump and fun to drive. I would recommend servicing it yourself with some cheap synthetic oil and filter, clean and polish the bodywork and headlights, can't do too much about the lacquer peel unfortunately but think of it as a cheap summer car in good mechanical order and sell on (or keep). need to get that airbag light sorted, that carly thing didn't seem to read most of the ecus at all, since there should have definitely been a code for the airbag light, could be just the seat connectors but needs to be gone to pass it's mot. hopefully you can get someone to scan it with vag-com on their laptop. I bought a chinese vag-com scanner for 30 quid and works great but takes a while for it to come down from china
