Hey Matt, totally feel your pain...I had a 996TT pushing about 750HP at the crank and the freaking leak issues were constant! We ended up dropping the motor, re-tuning the computer, going through the fuel system and the damn plenum intake would not stay on during high boost! I ended up buying a $50 Dorman clamp and torqued it to almost 90 ft lbs and whaddya know, no more leak! The clamps also kept coming off the intercoolers.

Fwiw When I was boost leak testing my s4 (similar twin turbo) I tested in sections. I tested the throttle body to engine and then tested all the cold side pipes by putting a plug in the hose that connects to the y pipe and another on the side I wasn’t testing making that a closed system. Not sure how clear that was but isolating sections made diagnosing everything easier and not massive blow through like when you just hooked to the bottom

I'm sort of doing it in sections now.

Man I’m having deja vu watching this video, lol. I was chasing a boost leak on my 996 and tried over and over and over, getting the same result as you. I was inspecting the vacuum hoses on top of the plenum and broke that same freaking thing! I ended up getting a used IPD plenum with a larger TB as well. That install was…..not very fun. Good luck buddy!

Terrible plastic design!
@zachmoffa4091 Жыл бұрын
Man, I swear youre reliving my same exact issues. Broke one of those plastic nipples off my plenum and replaced with the IPD, I didn't go with the bigger TB though. Someone else mentioned it, but you've gotta plug both sides of the charge pipe to get a seal, otherwise your compressed air is going straight through the non-charged side.
@matt13ross Жыл бұрын
Yea I'll do that next time. To be fair, I did that when I did the first test with no pressure built.

@sutherlacd27 Жыл бұрын
It actually doesn't. The stock plenum and throttle body will handle any upgrades just as well as the upgrades for any power level that can be done before it requires tearing into the engine.
@cargen12 Жыл бұрын
@@sutherlacd27 Not sure what argument you're trying to make; it might not be the biggest bottleneck in stock system, but an upgrade is an upgrade. IPD plenums have shown to increase 20-30 peak HP after installation on the dynos. What more is there to debate?
