@MindShift-Brandon You have got a real full of yourself attitude you do realize that, right? Who do you think you are anyway? You are not better than God to improve his word in anyway shape or form. You are just corrupting your immortal soul more and more every time you make a video against God and the bible and that corruption upon your immortal soul is just going to increase the torment that you'll experience in hell because people that end up in hell create their own torment that they will experience in hell because those who end up in hell suffer the corruption that they build themselves from the sins that they commit. No one suffers the same eternal torment experience in hell you create your own based on the corruption you have caused upon your immortal soul from the sins that you have committed. You need to wise up and truly get saved and acquire a relationship with God because contrary to what you may think you were never saved and never had a relationship with God to begin with.

My wife and I have dominion over two cats. They're very well nurtured and cared for. And our house and lawn are adequately cared for and not falling apart (much). But we do buy meat from the store for us and our cats to eat. I eat less meat than I used to though because of digestive issues, not ethical ones. For a while I tried eating NO meat because of how bad my digestion was, and man, it really makes the body tired and weak to not have that protein. You have to be very careful about animal care. Sometimes well-meaning people who try to take care of 40 cats instead of 4 cats end up making things worse instead of better. Our abilities as human beings are quite limited, no matter what kind of mission statements we come up with. The Bible says do what you can according to God's purpose, but realize you ain't God. When you start thinking you are God and can end all suffering, you create way more than you end. That's what happened in the soviet union with its attempt at food redistribution. Well-meaning, but horrendous because it tried to overstep its bounds. Voluntary hunger relief efforts tend to work better than coerced ones, as sad as that is.

"For God so loved the world that he never made it." As an author I feel this to my core. I care deeply about the fictional beings that I have created and nurtured over almost a decade at this point, and I can safely and confidently say that if I had a button that would bring those characters and their stories to life, make them real either in this world or their very own, I would REFUSE to press it. I wouldn't go near it for fear of tripping on it by accident. And why is that? Because I love them too much to put real, feeling people through the hardships that have been written into these stories. To bring to life the heartless villains who have strived to ruin or even end the lives of my beloved children. To force another conscious, living being to experience the horrors of their backstories, and the trials and hardships of the story proper. Even knowing with absolute certainty that their endings are happy and the trauma fades with time, the very idea of willingly or even accidentally inflicting that fate on anyone, whether I like them or not, is horrifying to me. And I DO like them. I do care. I so love my world that I will never, ever make it. And I would hope that a God who loved me as I love my characters would think and act the same. Would understand that I myself agree and would prefer never to have been made at all, if this is the life I must lead. And yet here I sit, suffering in all the little ways I've always been. Enough to nearly break me, and yet still a pitiful fraction of what other real, living people are going through as I type this. Through no fault of their own, and - if he does exist as claimed - through at least some small fault of God's, as he sits in the room with them watching them be hurt and doing nothing. No protecting the innocent, no punishing the wicked. A god who refuses to judge and refuses to love. And you go on praising him even as countless others scream in pain. I thought perfection was worth more than this.

@@InfernalAlgorithms Careful, there. Most of that is a perfectly fine rephrasing of what I said, but there's one line that goes the wrong direction. "Perhaps perfection isn't worth this torment" is not at all what I was suggesting. My point is that if perfection was what we had from God, then there would be no torment at all. The existence of people experiencing suffering shows that there's a flaw to a creation said to be perfect, by a creator said to be perfect. This is just factually untrue, and the world proves it several thousand times over. The God that most believe in only reaches the status of "perfect" after countless instances of retconning and excusing that God's behavior. And "perfect when you ignore all these imperfections" is just a fancy and dishonest way of saying "imperfect". (I'd also refrain from praising Satan without having a list of specific actions from him by believers that I judged case by case. Just because you oppose someone bad, that does not automatically mean that you are good. Sometimes a large-scale conflict turns out to be between two villains instead of one villain and one hero. We forget that at our peril)

Muslims literally believe that God wrote the Quran and that it's the most amazing book and anyone who reads it would convert instantly. However, I have never heard a Muslim say "I can't wait to go home and study my Quran". I never heard a verse from the Quran and thought to myself "Wow that is really wise or deep". People in the west will quote Confucius, Laoza and Sun Tzu but nobody quotes the Quran. No philosophy or ethics class studies the Quran. I myself used to think that the Quran was amazing even after I deconstructed, until somebody said that they found it repetitive and boring. Then I thought to myself "oh my God. I thought that was just me." I was like a fish that suddenly realized it's surrounded by water. If we grow up believing in something, we become blind to its obvious flaws.

I think you did a fantastic job with that (and a brilliant idea)! If the entire thing were editted in that spirit, (NMV - New Mindshift Version) christian-style spirituality might be more palatable to a great many people. Alternatively, edit the whole thing, bury a few copies here and there, and maybe, a la "A Canticle For Leibowitz" style, the future would greatly benefit.

Just whatched the whole thing, and in my perspective as a person who listens to ur channel from "the other side", I agree ironically agree with the fundamental premise on the this video, that the bible is not perfect and its pretty easy to see why (as you kinda show in SBS). The dogma of the bible being perfect in every way is not even found in the bible (and that one verse about inspiration on Timothy is doubted by scholars to mean what modern christians think of inspiration) Many christians have accepted this fact in their beliefs alredy, and thou you do a solid work on this vid to prove your point, I dont think it should be that controversial (i personally have gripe with the way you use certain verses but whatever) Hope you have a nice sunday☝️

The funny part is that even if you grant the explanation that the slavery that the Hebrews were allowed to enact was not chattel slavery, you have to acknowledge that God's relation to everything living is essentially chattel slavery. God can kill or torture humanity and it is God's right. Anything done by God is right and moral even those things humanity has deemed immoral. Like I said it seems that all sentient life forms are God slaves to mistreat as God wishes.

Well said! I've gotten a lot out of Brandon's videos on this aspect of "to be a believer, you have to be a slave" thing. Joseph Smith actually had a project where he did something like this. It’s called the “Joseph Smith Translation.” It’s basically Joseph Smith rewriting the Bible and trying to correct passages that Smith thought had to be wrong. Smith noticed all the crap in the Bible and thought it meant that dishonest scribes and translators had messed with the Biblical text. Smith thought the original text of the Bible had to be perfect. Smith thought he could correct all the crap through inspiration and revelation. Not surprisingly, turning the Bible into a better book turned out to be a lot of work. Smith had trouble correcting everything, and the project was left unfinished at Smith’s death.

@@theboombody, yes, Joseph Smith was the founder of the Latter-day Saints. After Smith's death, one of his followers (John Taylor, later to follow Smith as a supposed prophet) said of him: "Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it." This is from Doctrine & Covenants 135:3. The Doctrine & Covenants is a collection of revelations, mostly from Smith with additions from some later LDS prophets. The Doctrine & Covenants is considered scripture by Latter-day Saints.

Given that Smith was into having what amounts to multiple sex slaves, I tend to think that his rewriting of the Bible is likely to have had a rather OT God slant to it. Might have been one of the reasons he had so much trouble rewriting it; he would have had to look deeply at his own attitudes and actions, maybe that was more than he was willing to do.
@exmormonroverpaula2319
@exmormonroverpaula2319 3 ай бұрын
@@sundayoliver3147, some of what Joseph Smith rewrote in the Bible is the sort of thing Mindshift mentions. For example, in Exodus 7:3, which originally says that the Lord will harden Pharaoh's heart, the Joseph Smith Translation (JST) has Pharaoh hardening his own heart. However, the main theme of the JST is putting Jesus into the Old Testament. The JST includes the book of Moses. Moses 1:6 has God telling Moses about God's Only Begotten being the Savior. Moses 6:51-67 has Adam being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Apparently Joseph Smith thought that when the Old Testament was written it talked clearly about Jesus Christ, but that later on all this was removed by evil scribes and evil translators.

Your comments about John 3:16 are the essence of my deconversion. God did a terrible job of cleaning up a mess that he created in the first place. Jesus still has to come back one more time to wrap things up, after 2000+ additional years of suffering and damnation. The God of the bible is either a fool, a sadist, or a myth. Such a good video! I really think this is the way to go. If you talk about "problematic" passages, it's only going to raise defenses. If you say, "what if it said this?" You don't even have to explicitly say that your way is better, it will be more likely to actually generate critical thinking. That's the way it was for me anyways when I still believed in the Bible. Saying, "The Bible promotes slavery" makes me think of apologetics and defenses. Saying, "what if there was a Bible verse that said "don't own people"" was much more likely to get me thinking about what the Bible *could* have been
