Link to play the game! coderedyt.itch.io/the-hiding-place To clarify some things: This game was supposed to be a prototype for my dream game. I did not set out to make my entire dream game in 2 weeks, nor did I succeed. I apologize if the title or thumbnail made it seem like this was my full vision for my dream game. I tried to clarify in the video that it wasn't, but I don't think I did enough. Sorry. :( However, despite not being my full dream game, I would definitely call it a practice run towards making my dream game, and overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. So if you wanna play it, give it a try. I put a lot of myself into it. :) Thanks for all the positive feedback. Appreciate y'all :)

I also want to become a small indie game dev, but maybe not so much of a game dev KZbinr. I have a dev channel that I sometimes do devlogs on for a game I lost passion for before even the engine was implemented, but oh well. Some day I'll create a banger little game I hope.

Why not Godot is a free, open source engine that’s very compact and has 2D and 3D stuff to experiment with. Then for 3D models there’s Blender (also open source) and Pixelorama (open source as well and made in Godot) for 2D pixel art.

I have gotten an idea for a "secret" (not secret but different ending), when it got to the revews: If you run away from the self hatred, by backtracking a set amount of rooms, you will teleport to a red corridor in wich self hatred follows and coteners you, making you lose.

Hey, ok, I did what you told me to do. Played the game. Quick grammar note: 'your' != 'you're'. The whole idea of things disappearing into shadow etc is cool. Feels like you could do more with that. Nice game jam. Great work!

I actually thought the gameplay was quite fun and creative despite you saying throughout the video that you thought it was bad. There was a little jank, and I wish there was a reset button, but it was quite enjoyable for the most part. The music went with the cutscenes surprisingly well and despite already knowing what was going to happen, the story still somehow made me a little emotional. Overall, very well made and I am looking forward to whatever comes next.

whoops my comments seems to have been deleteddd i did leave a little review on the game page, but thought leaving a youtube comment too wouldn't hurt, plus it would probably help with the algorithm :D while i do think the game should've had a reset level feature, as you can get yourself softlocked pretty easily with the red ball throwing, but otherwise i do think it's a really well done game i did enjoy the gameplay, despite you saying it was quite lackluster, and the room where the shadow cut was revealed was actually pretty challenging for me, although on accident, as i flipped the first switch twice, accidentally making the final platform in the other half non-collidable, so i had to figure out that the other light bulb at the start caused it to do that maybe if you were to make a continuation of the hiding place you could include some more stuff like that, as the game felt more like a platformer rather than a puzzle, which is fair as the time limit was tight but yeah :pppp the reveal was by far the best part, although expected, and it looping back to the scene in the title screen is just a cherry on top hope to see more from you!!!

The game really takes a jab at my heart. I love the art and oddly enough it just feels so fitting and comforting with its simplicity and colours. Just wanted to ask, how did u do in the soundtrack gamejam?
@ItsCodeRedYT2 күн бұрын
Thanks :) I mentioned it very briefly toward the end of the video, but I didn't do super well in the soundtrack jam. I think I was bottom 50% if I remember correctly. I was definitely a bit disappointed, but given that I am still new to creating music, I wasn't too surprised. Plus, I still got some nice feedback, so it was definitely worth it. :)

The idea and music is interesting, but in terms of overall polishing and art it's way far from the dream game, which should be - when we are using proper terms - something amazingly unique, creatively pushed to the limits, polished to the limits and leaving the player with feelings for month or even years... I hate the overuse of the term "dream game" in videos because these games aren't even close to being a dream... The game is "solid" base for something bigger, but that's all.
@ItsCodeRedYT3 күн бұрын
That's totally fair. The term "dream game" is definitely overused. In this case, though, the goal was never to make my full dream game. There isn't really any way to make a fully realized dream game like you describe in just 2 weeks. Instead, my goal for the game jam was always just to make a prototype for my first steam game/dream game, not the full thing, which I mention at the start of the video. I also explicitly mention at the end of the video that this game didn't end up being my dream game since I'm not entirely happy with the direction I ended up taking some of the elements. However, I would say that this was an attempt at making a prototype of my dream game. At the very least, it broke the creative block that I was having with my dream game idea. So to clarify completely, I do not feel like the current version of the game on Itch.io is my dream game, a dream game, or anything really that close. I apologize that my title and thumbnail are a bit exaggerated on this front, as they don't really communicate the intricacies of the situation. In hindsight, I wish I had done more to clarify in the video that this was supposed to be simply a prototype for my dream game. The script for the video was greatly cut down from over 13 pages and the paragraph explaining all of this got cut. I guess I just figured the prototype comment at the start plus the 2-week time limit would clarify enough? However, in hindsight, I should've done more. I'll add some clarification to the description, and pin a comment. :)

Not a big fan of 'Thor', but what controversies?
@ItsCodeRedYT2 күн бұрын
You can look it up if you wanna know more, but the gist is that he made a mistake during a raid in WOW, leading to several people losing hundreds of hours of gameplay time, and then refused to apologize or really acknowledge that it was his fault. There is additional stuff too, but it all boils down to the fact that he has a large ego and doesn't acknowledge his mistakes enough.
@absolutfx2 күн бұрын
@@ItsCodeRedYT you can't really make a mistake in WoW and lose hundreds of hours of gameplay time. It's not a thing.
@ItsCodeRedYTКүн бұрын
Sorry, I meant hardcore WOW, meaning characters die forever. The mistake led to the deaths of two people, who were both level 60 (hundreds of hours). If you want to know the specifics there are many videos about the controversies online

I loved the game and this video is really cool!! I hope I get to see and play the full version one day, if it gets made. About the game, I loved the story, and I was absolutely _shocked_ during the reveal cutscene. However, I was really bad at the platforming and I had to replay so many puzzles.
