Will this send power back to your main panel ? I asked because it is connected to grid power via grid connection. Why is it that there is a built in transfer lock for the generator not to send power back to the grid but the batteries can send power?

No, this isn't an AC coupled solution so it would only feed the loads on the sub-panel. That is why there is the interlock so it can comply with the regulations.

Yep,the Ambition Strikes channel just did a video of the same stuff but they didn't cover all the details that you've done. Years ago I wired in a timer to my water heater. Since I live alone I set the timer to turn on the water heater at 2 am through 5 am so I could take a bath before going to work. As a result of doing that I cut my power bill in half.

Evidently, they provided a complete script to just read. Wild Wonderful Offgrid channel had the exact same script as Ambition Strikes. They installed it at their parents home in Florida. Just a little over-saturated for my liking.

Here's a test I would be curious about: if you disconnect the smart panel from the internet for multiple days, do you lose any functionality? For instance, I believe the Tesla Powerwall system completely stops functioning if it is unable to connect to Tesla servers after about 48 hours. I haven't been able to find a solid answer on this for EcoFlow.

Awesome video. About to purchase the Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra inverter, 5 batteries and the smart panel 2. I would like to have my home 3 ton ac unit (30 amp) to the smart panel. My concern is the fan on the air handler gets it power from the heating breaker (60 amp). I do not plan to ever power the heating system using batteries (we don't get that cold here often). But how do I power the blower so the ac works properly? I will not install the panel myself but would want some knowledge when getting quotes from licensed electricians. Thanks for any advice.

Thank you! Obviously, I don't know your setup but I would imagine that the blower/handler would have it's own power source and perhaps you can find that wire (or ask the electrician to wire one in) and then bring that over to the SHP2. Can you attach your RV panels to the echo pro through a switch or bus bar on the RV then outside plug on the house? I assume the RV panels aren't doing much when the RV is at home.

Yes, I could. I agree, why not take advantage of the solar already sitting g in the driveway. I have the power kit system currently installed and so those batteries are getting charged by solar

It is about a 7kw load, a 6kwh battery. I don't remember the exact time to full charge but at max rate of about 6,500w it should take about an hour starting at 0%.

I have existing roof top solar panels that connects and feed to the grid. If I connect this ecoflow battery to the main panel through a power inlet, will I be able to charge it through roof top solar when there's power outage? Right now the roof top solar can't be used when the grid is down. Thanks.

I'm guessing your point of grid connection for the solar is through a backfed breaker. In that case, I would think that it might work, though I haven't tested it myself. I will be at CES this January so I'll put that on my list to ask one of the EcoFlow engineers there. I am not sure if the inverter on the DPU could be damaged with the rooftop inverters backfeeding power.

@@FrugalRepair Thanks. It'll be great if you can check with them. DPU is much cheaper than the integrated solutions like Tesla Powerwall. I also don't like that the integrated batteries will be charged and discharged daily - which degrades their life span. All I want is a solution when there's power outage. I don't really care if I can feed the extra battery power back to the grid for the pennies they pay me.

It's hard to say how many solar panels because it depends on how much storage you have and what your needs are. If it's your only source of power, I'd probably say get as much solar as you can. You don't have to get EcoFlow panels, BTW, you can get any panels you want. But to know more precisely you should guess at your loads and use a calculator (like PVwatts) to give you an idea of solar production throughout the year.

I doubt the 110w or 220w is over 30v, which is the lowest the DPU can accept on the low voltage port. So probably not.

Nice video. According to one source, the average house in the USA uses about 29.6 kWh per day. That would be 5 batteries. What I have been wondering about this unit is how long it would take to charge 5 batteries with just one inverter just using solar power?? To me that signifies if this can really be used off grid. Thanks! Giving numbers on this question is difficult because it depends on many factors. Not only do you have to have a good guess at consumption, but it needs to be tailored to the seasons, like winter, use more heat, and there is less sun for recharging batteries. So you could try to calculate what your 3-4 days needs are over some cold days in winter. For year round solar production guesses, I recommend pvwatts. It’s a free online tool (us government agency) and does a really great job modeling solar output.

Yes, the DPU outputs 240 split phase and you can plug directly into a generator inlet.

How would you rate functionality without the app? I was looking into these but I don't want another app to manage it. Do I need the app for setup? Does the system need to connect to my network?

You can definitely use it without the app or internet. I would at lease connect it every so often to get firmware updates. The display on the screen shows most of the information. If you want to see a breakdown of input or outputs by source then you would want the app. But if you just care to see totals the screen will show them and also various icons will light up to give information. There are some options only available in the app like toggle switches for battery preconditioning (use the internal heating in cold weather) or AC always on, and a slider for setting charge/discharge limits, AC recharge speed, timeout values, and any automation timing schedules you can set up.

Can you tell me how much problem I have if I already have a main panel on one side of the house and another subpanel in the garage? both have main circuits (240) and 120 circuits. Would I have to have 2 smart panels to run the whole house off the battery/inverter delta pro ultra?

That is hard to answer because it depends on which and how many circuits you want to have backed up by the SHP2/DPU. I would think you would want one SHP as a critical load panel off of your main panel. If you want the circuits in the sub-panel to be on the SHP2, then maybe you could run new wires for just those circuits? Not trying to punt but maybe you could also ask this in the EF facebook group since there can be a back and forth a little easier with more people.

What is the life of the battery? Also life of the portable battery?

It's rated for over 3,500 cycles. A cycle is 100% to 0% then back to 100%. So the way they rate these batteries is after about 3,500 cycles it should be at 80% of it's original capacity.

This may seem like a dumb or crazy idea but I'll ask it anyway. I have a pre-existing large solar array that feeds directly back to the grid. I' like to have a battery backup system as well as one that can power my 220v crypto rigs. This seems like a great solution for both, but rather than buying separate solar panels, I'd like to see if I can tap into my current system. Is it possible to just add an outlet to the line that is feeding directly back into the grid power in my fusebox and charge the DPU via the 220v input? Or is that crazy/dangerous? 🙂

You might want to email me if you have more questions. If your solar array is backfed through a breaker on your main panel then couldn't you install a 220V outlet with the breaker on your main panel? Then you can charge the DPU from that. But maybe I am misunderstanding. Just curious if that is okay to feed into the DPU as the wattage would fluctuate wildly through the day. The key info needed is the voltage numbers on the solar panels. If you put them in series (add voltage) you have to make sure the voltage doesn’t go over 450v (when temps are coldest outside). You might be able to put them all in series on the high voltage port or take 2-3 of them and put them on the low voltage port and the rest on the high voltage port.

I recently ordered the new Delta Pro Ultra from EcoFlow, but I'm having a frustrating issue. They sent me the inverter but not the battery, and to make matters worse, they charged me for the full unit. When I emailed them to ask about the missing battery, they informed me that the batteries for this unit are out of stock and won't be available until mid-July. However, when I called their customer service number, I was told the batteries would be in stock in early July. These conflicting dates keep me stuck with a Delta Pro Ultra and no battery indefinitely. Adding to my frustration, their website still allows people to order the kits and the batteries as if they're readily available.

Good information however its seems that the ecoflow delta pro ultra downsize thier system it should be compatible with their Generator include a special port that feed the EFDPU with maximum also the automatic generator startup not included as well If I need to go 100% off grid and install e.g. 90kwh this option should included in order to recharge the battery however its seems the EFDPU may thinking about this kind of problem and they should found away to make the system compatible with their new system similar to the delta pro version and the dual fuel generator hopefully you well deliver this message to them

The new ULTRA is 100V and the only way to use the older generator they sell is to use the normal 110v plug. It's amazing how the "ULTRA" is not compatible with any of their other products. Not the last smart home panel and not anything. You would think they would rename it to something else to not confuse the consumer into thinking it has compatibility with the rest of their ecosystem but it doesn't. Also, my experience with their customer support has been absolutely horrendous .....

Why can't you schedule battery discharge and use EPS at the same time???? Who would ever want to wait 5 seconds in darkness for your battery to switch over.

You would have to be a fool to pay such a high price for an inverter that uses cheap, low peak power, Chinese made, high frequency inverter technology. For a lot less money than this, you can buy a heavy duty, longer lasting, much safer, low frequency, hybrid inverter charger and a much larger inverter charger and get a much higher peak power rating.
