It really is a shame the original creator had to stop working on the mod because Mojang threatened to sue them.. But some good news, or bad news depending on what you think of this mod, is that someone else took over the mod. Hopefully they don't screw it up like Microsoft did with Minecraft.

Mojang also decided to change their EULA in a way that made it against their terms to make any more similar mods, but also targets a lot of other mods that have always been fine. But, so long as the code is wholly original, Mojang can't legally do anything about about any mods people make. The only issue is that they are backed by Microsoft and can afford to fight a legal battle they would lose. Meanwhile, mod creators are working on tight margins if they even get any income from mod development in the first place, and definitely can't afford to go through a lengthy legal battle over it. But yeah, there is legal precedent for mods to be unrestricted by the developer of the game that's being modded. Nintendo modders have found a way.
