I got the mending bug a few years ago. I read the book "Slow Mending" and fell in love with the style of mending she espouses. I started darning because I loved my wool socks so much and wanted to also fix cashmere sweaters I find around. The pandemic gave me the perfect excuse to practice mending. People started giving me things that meant a lot to them for me to mend. It's been a surprisingly requested birthday gift. The gift of mending. I like the sound of that. PS your house dresses are super cute. I have to go back and look at those videos again.

As an avid historian, the fact that she popped over to the warehouse that built her lovely antique bread machine warms my heart.

It's so satisfying to see someone take the time to mend things (and have things worth mending). I'm so sick of the throw-away culture around clothes.

You did such a great job mending these items. Great to see people caring for vintage pieces like this.

I love the fringe twister. So satisfying to watch the loose ends get twisted up. And I LOVE the aran sweater! I could knit one, but all those cables would drive me nuts. Great find!

Thank you for reminding me about my basket of hand knit socks that need darning. Actually, never mind, I'll wait until fall to tackle it. I hate darning and it's too darned hot for wool socks anyway lol.

I love your videos so much! You make sustainability and self-made clothes seem attainable. Wondering if you've ever done swiss darning with your knits? I'd love to try it but I'm a little intimidated.

This weekend I've been mending socks with a fierce engagement. When I finally started on saturday, it was hard to stop mending. Soon the pile is gone, and I am surprised that I had that many socks that needed my attention.

Beautiful mending! I cannot wait for sweater weather again. Where I live it’s quite hot til October.

I love your fringe twister!! As a kid I used something similar but scaled up in size to make a custom rope out of yarn at a craft sale thing! The way I keep my mending pile from getting out of hand is a self-imposed rule, I don't get to start anything new till I've finished a UFO and gotten a big thing or a couple little ones off the mending heap. Patching the butt of my work pants counts as a big thing, darning a sock counts as a little one...

I mend clothes for myself and my boyfriend. I try to anyways. Still a bit new to it but it's always nice to be able to keep wearing those well loved clothes.

I have NO memory of you making a video about those wrap dresses, but I did fall down a Critical Role rabbit hole for about two months, so I'll have to go back and find that video - they're so cute! I wish you had shown your method of fixing that skirt. I have a similar one in a similar state and I've been holding onto it forever (16 years?) in the hopes that I can fix it. It's the only tartan I've ever liked. Fringe twister? I had no idea this existed, but it makes sense!

Just a hint for you. When you make fringes on Handwoven shawls. For example, take the first 6 yarns, then the next 5, skip 1, pickup 1, then make your tassels. This locks the warp.

That aran sweater is absolutely gorgeous! Was there are information on when/where it was knit, and by whom? If you ever make a video about aran sweaters, I'd love to see an examination of your vintage one where you identify construction techniques and stitch patterns. I'm sure there are new things we can learn from it 😆

I got less holes in my clothes when I fastened all zips and tuck my bras into the legs of my jeans so they can’t pull on the fabric of other clothes when I wash them. I don’t mind mending tears, or adapting my clothes (I struggle with fastenings and I’m a wheelchair user) but I get really frustrated with stains and I end up spoiling things long before the stain is gone. It’s not all doom and gloom, some of my clothes are still going strong after many decades of careful wear! Billie-blue.

I use a small mesh bag to wash my bras, making sure to hook them closed. Then I take them out of the bag and hang them to dry!!
