As a PC technician, this is a daily occurrence for old mobos, the ram's pins oxidise and the slots get dusty or the pins don't hold the same tension they used to to make contact. Whatever the case, it makes them EXTREMELY fussy (old motherboards) with ram, if you so much as bump them it can unsettle the delicate connection between the pins in the slot and the now dirty/oxidised dimms. Wouldn't be shunning the picopsu, it was very likely to be just coincidental.

Great video!!! If possible run them at 220v, they're much more efficient. I did a test with an ATX psu @ 110v vs. an HP 1200 server PSU @ 220v. With a single GPU I went from 168 watts w/ATX down to 141 watts on server PSU run on 220v. Do that across a whole farm and it's huge savings.

Check out my recent video on discussing my upcoming panel upgrade. I’ll be switching to 240v soon!

I run 20 cpu miners on picos and server psus. You probably overloaded your server psus, and you should always have a daisychain between all PSUs to power on at the same time, especially when you are running gpus. If not, you will always have issues. Another option is to power your gpus on first, then your motherboard. But yeah, Dell motherboards are garbage and very particular when it comes to any changes. Just try to change RAM in an alienware PC and see what happens. They try to lock things down much like Apple so that they can only be replaced by other Dell OEM or dell approved parts. I learned this lesson a long time ago. They limit power to everything, which is why they have no heat sinks for VRAM or critical parts. More likely to fail if pushed, so you have to buy a new one.

A lot of the other comments saying just leave it as is but if you can take 1 PSU off the rig and save $ on the hydro bill, that would be great. So, I hope you try again and get it working. I've had plenty MB issues. 1 thing to be careful is static electricity, try having nothing touching the motherboard such as cables from the bronze PSU. Sometimes I had to reset the MB by taking out the battery.
@jporter5049 ай бұрын
Has happened to me many, many times, sometimes just for slightly moving the MB to check something, but when I see a rig trying to boot and the cpu fan cycles on and off, 99 percent of the time I reseat the RAM and it fixes the issue.
@ModernMiningHub9 ай бұрын
Good to know! That was the first time I’d ever seen that issue.

i also bought a 1400W Server PSU with Pico adapter to have suficient power for my 3 GPUS and get rid of the ATX PSU , (so i thought) no luck , if conect the server psu to the motherboard it doesnt boot into Hive OS , and just sits there... This proves that those Server PSUS Pico adapters don´t work well at all. Sad...

I don't understand why there would be a case fan blowing down into the plywood at the bottom of the rig. It's just there trying to shove air through wood.
@ModernMiningHub9 ай бұрын
Mentioned it in the video, fell optiplex boards have to have a fan plugged in to boot.
@slangnbang7579 ай бұрын
probably wasnt the RAM at all... clearing CMOS could have fixed with the pico connected... but mobos can do their own funny things... ive got a old "ThinkStation" mobo i used to mine with, had that same "no boot w/o the fan connected" thing too

I noticed at 2:50 when you turned your atx PSU off your 2 server PSU's went off. You have anything daisy chaining from the atx to the servers?
@ModernMiningHub9 ай бұрын
Yep, i use a molex cable from the psu that powers both server psus on/off when the atx psu is powered on/off

Good video.. But honestly... But i highly doubt the Pico, will give any real-world, Noticeable improvements on efficiency.. and ultimately the electric bill... To me, Its just another point of potential failure.... If aint broken, Dont fix it :)

A platinum PSU will save you 7-8% on hydro vs Bronze PSU. So, it's definitely worth it to switch. Plus, he can sell the bronze PSU or use it somewhere else.

if you have e cost less than 10 c /kw you wont need efficiency , and with the bull run everything will be profitable, i think one good PCU is enough
