Final installment of repairing an Extron VSC-200 VGA to composite scan converter with a Pico PSU. I’m going to use this rack-mounted scan converter in my homelab to pass VGA video into some RF modulators for internally-hosted TV channels.

It was nice to meet you at VCF East XIX. I was surprised to see this sort of kit on your channel, I've got a few other Extron boxes in my home setup. DVS-304's mostly, and 2/3 of them have failed PSUs like this one, and I know others have similar issues. Cool to see one revived.

Thanks! This Extron gear is fun, been meaning to pick more stuff up. You can snag it pretty cheap on eBay sometimes. Interesting to hear yours have PSU issues as well!

Have binged alot of your videos for a few days now and I love the hotdesking stuff you've been doing, that power supply is a very over engineered way of going about it but if it works it works! for future reference external dc adapters exist that do 12v/5v they usually have a Molex connector on them too so you'd only need to adapt from Molex to the power input of your board.

thanks for watching! yeah I totally over-engineered this as an excuse to play with a Pico PSU haha. I think a DC adapter would've been the better route.

8:25 is the point a lot of people scream about "no! not hot glue!". since it is a ripe old mess to get off... But add some IPA, wait a bit for it to seep in. And suddenly hot glue peels off in one piece as if it never were attached to start with. Especially on metal parts, but works fine for most other surfaces too. (though often not paper and stickers and such, those tends to get destroyed by the IPA.)

I'd make a PCB for this. One side with a right angle 24 pin for the pico PSU and the other side with the connector for the original cable. Make the PCB the correct size for the screwholes and have traces run for the correct voltage rails. PCBWay should make this easy as Pie.

Yes! I've never made a PCB before but was thinking I might revisit this for a first go at it someday.

MEAN WELL RT-65A is also one option if u need +5 +12v -12v :)

thought about one of those! would've been another good option and probably cheaper... less cables to buy.

You could've removed the unused cables and only keep what you needed. And instead of splicing cables you could've put the pins from the 6-pin connector on the cables coming from the ATX plug.

Nice! I would of done the same thing lol. Possibly put that female barrel connector to a male female C13 plug, that way you could of used the original C13 male socket.

As long as you remember it's supposed to be 12v and don't blow it up accidentally plugging in 120v lol

I have been watching all your videos back and I have a question do you know anything about being able to use the network channels on a tv theses day that would allow me to output a hdmi to a network channel for all the TVs able to find

Plex is a good option for streaming to modern TVs in general. I haven't tried github.com/vexorian/dizquetv, but someone else commented about it and it looks like it might do what you need!
