Depending on your power company they may give you a “safe cut” and cut the tree down or cut it low enough you can drop the trunk safely . Some power companies are better than others . Call them & tell them you want the tree down but its leaning to their primary & you would like to see if they can make it safe . If they cut it great , if not i would use a rope as high in the tree as you can get it for leverage then either an extremely long rope so the tractor can apply pressure & stay clear when it falls . Or you can place a pulley to the direction you want it to go then pull on it at an angle with the tractor & keep it safely out of the felling area . Good luck & hopefully the power company will hook you up . Believe me you do not want the bill to fix the problem if it falls on power company equipment .

Morning Heath and Rachel . Nice job on the felling . Here in SC , the power company will only trim the side of the tree facing the power lines . That is why so many trees here break off if we have ice . I know crazy . I would do as Jimmy said . Call the power company and ask , can’t hurt !! Merry Christmas to y’all 👍🏻🎄🇺🇸

Heath...Get a throwball and line and get a bull line as high in the tree as possible. Then get/make a 2:1 block and tackle and use a tree far away as the anchor. Pull with your tractor just enough so that you can feel the kerfs on the face cut just closing. Widen them and keep them closing. Bore cut to a small strap like you did in the video while closing up the face cuts until almost completely closed. Put pressure on it while cutting the strap and have Rachel drive away while it is falling. That is likely how a tree company like the one my son works for would do it!

I may have a different take on it if I were walking around the tree…. That said, the bore cut and trigger approach is appropriate. How you aim it is critical… you need to base the gunning on the center of mass of the crown, and not just base it on the direction you want it to go. The center of mass may require you to gun 5, 10, 15 feet to the right of where you want the tree to fall. For example, I cut a 30” leaning ash and had the hinge set about 90° to where I wanted it to fall because of the center of mass. Set wedges ASAP after making the plunge cut. Have lots of wedges and it wouldn’t hurt to have a bull line set to help the tree over if the wedging is difficult. It seems to me that the Husqvarna KZbin video on how to fell a tree discusses this. I learned about it during Game of Logging training.

Never push a rotten tree with a machine , I’ve pushed over a lot of trees over the years , but I pick my battles carefully . The top , if I breaks could fall on you and even if you have a canopy / rollbar , it’s no match for a tree trunk falling from hight . I use strawline for pulling over trees , less likely to break . You don’t need to be that high up on the stem , 20 feet is plenty . I pull them over with my 1/2 ton 4x4 . Cut the under cut , then put some tension on the line and do your backcut . Nice if you have someone running the truck , but if not be sure to walk way around to get to the vehicle , don’t walk under the path of a falling tree . PULL HARD , SHE COMES EASY ! LOL ! 👍🇨🇦
@griley1474Күн бұрын
That challenging tree looks like Basswood which is very weak. Seems counter intuitive, but pulling directly against the lean is generally a better option than pulling against side lean. If it has to go in the direction you're suggesting, have 2 ropes in it would be desirable. 1 directly opposing the lean as a restraint and another pulling in the intended direction. If it were me, I'd consider felling it in the woods behind it and sacrificing a couple smaller ones. Sound the tree first to ensure the wood you're working with is solid enough to support leaving a thicker hinge. If the sound it makes is lower in tone then you probably have decay or a hollow in it which is no bueno. Getting a lift is the safest bet in that case.
@hardworkingmanoutdoorsКүн бұрын
Thank you and that makes perfect sense but I never thought about it. The rope pulling opposite helps it swing then. Appreciate the education!

Congrats on your 25000 subscribers. Good job on falling those trees. I know you can fall the other tree to yourself. Rope and the tractor will work find. If your bucket could reach high enough you could get up in it and take about 3 ft at a time and have your woman on the tractor of course ha,ha. Looks like the tree is to far up for that thou. I knows nothing about falling trees but my father used rope and the truck before and rope just up a little where your going to cut and I hold it from the side just in case it wanted to twist while he drove forward. It worked and if it didn,t it would have falling on our house cause that,s where the tree was we wanted to get down. He was a wood cutter most of his life but this was a different situation then in the forest. Lot people got great idea,s in the comments. For the giveaway I say bar oil, couple chains and chainsaw files is good. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Ordinarily I would just swing it with a soft Dutchman and/or a Sizwell but with the power line there I wouldn’t take a chance. I’d get a long tree pulling rope and get something to launch it up there a ways and secure it, pull a little tension with the tractor, lock the brake, put a shallow face cut, maybe even back cut first and drive a wedge. Then with someone on the tractor, (may need to call a buddy) cut a little, wedge a little, and pull a little until the tree is down. And keep an eagle eye on the top 👍

Do your face cut/hinge then bore cut it, leaving a trigger but at the same time leave some holding wood on the side of tree for the direction u want it to go which should cause it to have a slight twist as it falls and u should be fine, also respected, we all have our own ways of cutting trees but cut it as close to ground as u can and it allows for a lot more control, cutting waist high like u did the 2 trees in video could slide back off stump and come towards u I have seen it happen many times. Just for thought. I could really use the splitting maul your wife was holding, thanks and safe cutting.

Call a tree svc, see if they will drop it for you, and let you film, they get a free plug on ur channel, u get the tree down, and u don't tear or trash out your high voltage lines. If I was in your area I'd do it free just for the publicity. Also when we, (my company) get new guys felling trees, we have them do things like make marks on the trunk and hold the saw level, Just helps out, I been doing it for years, I still draw my cuts in the bark lightly as a guide. Either way, a rope will help to pull better than wedges alone usually, In the pnw we deal with way taller trees usually, what I have found is the smaller the tree the easier it is to mess up, to a point at least.

Option 1 see if power company is willing to consider it a hazard tree and drop it. Or use a bucket truck and chunk it to safety get it down. Simply, That is not a tree to take lightly. . To fall it without climbing you need minimum 2 people and a line with a block to help increase pulling power and CLEAR LINE OF SITE communication between cutter and person on tractor. load tractor as much as you can with lbs for traction. needs to be a slow is smooth cinda pulling power, or you can snap the top out. Estimate lbs of tree and pulling force of whatever before you cut anything!! Avoid doing it with the ground covered with white stuff. . Id want line 20+ something feet up there, to get a proper amount of leverage on it. Too low not enough leverage, too high it can snap, even if green. . Generally you can swing a tree up to about 20 degrees angle from its lean angle without a line at the most.

I’m no expert but with a tree like that I would push a strap/rope as high up the tree as possible with a rope going to a pulley at the base of another tree in the direction I wish to fall the tree from there run a chain to the tractor. This will remove the vertical forces on the pulling vehicle and if possible I have the tractor behind the tree falling with some other trees blocking so I am protected if everything goes sideways. Preload the rope just a bit after making your face cut. I always back away with the chain going into the bucket so I have a clear view of what is happening.

Hello, if this tree is a hazard to the powerline, dead and leaning towards the line and the wind blows that direction. Depending on your Utility, co-op, or investor owned they may remove it due to being a hazard it is a phone call away and it is definitely cheaper to ask than when it knocks the line out or breaks a pole. I have gone to court because of something like this. Just a thought.

Tree guys have insurance which if you get the power line you will need…. I would get one out and make a video with them since that’s kinda your thing anyways ……but if you insist doing it yourself do not cut the roots and try push it, you have way more leverage if you can get a rope up 2/3rds of the tree and get some tension on it. Small face cut, more tension, back cut and get a wedge in for security- check tension again. Get the hinge set for a critical cut leaving a bit more hinge than normal- then go back and winch or pull it over gently. Plenty of professional climbers on KZbin that may help you if you ask! Think of August, guilty of treason, Bucking Billy, Jeff etc if they can’t help they may know someone that will. Good luck and be safe mate it’s Christmas time!

Power line tree call the power company first, call a pro second, rent a lift 3rd if you know what you are doing, using the tractor both the tractor operator and the feller need to know what they are doing pull too soon and too much and you stand the chance of breaking the hinge to late and the tree goes backwards. you asked how to fell the tree but never mentioned the widow maker already in the tree. one thing I have learned is never give estimates based on pictures or videos as they never tell the whole story.
