eBay: - Seller has to list at prices that are competetive (ie: cheaper than others) - Seller has to pay for shipping fees - Seller has to pay for eBay fees - Seller has to pay TAX on the sale at end of year (1099)! totally not worth it anymore... and all it takes is a buyer to claim they have a problem and now you have to pay for the return shipping label too.. and some buyers swap the item for a broken one and screw the seller...

About 3 years ago I was selling A1466 MacBook Air logic boards with i7 CPUs on eBay. I had a buyers returning the logic boards as defective or not working. When they returned the logic boards they tested fine, the issue was buyers swapped them with i5 logic boards. I haven't sold on ebay since, nothing you can do as a seller. Not worth the headache.

I had a similar experience selling an Apple Watch I won a few years back. I used to sell on eBay weekly to pay the bills in my early-mid twenties. This watch was the first time I had a buyer pull the "box was empty" scam on me. Ebay tried to make me pay for the refund but it was linked to a checking account that was only used for buying/selling. I closed the account and told them to fuck off.

I came close to taking EBay to small claims court myself as well as EBay violated local laws while trying to screw me. Stopped selling after this after a number of attempted scams or fraudulent buyers. Anyway in the one I almost took them to court over, I sold a dude a hybrid tablet laptop and he claimed the charger didn't work, which I knew worked. I told him that I tested it and that the device had an auxiliary charge port. He opened a return. EBay said he had 10 days to ship after they sent him a shipping label. He refused to ship it and so EBay sided with me and assured me I wouldn't get charged. About a month later I get the laptop in the mail and EBay attempts to charge my account, which I'd revoked their access thinking this might happen and out of frustration over other items as well. Anyway, I spent literally hours chatting with support agents disputing this, I tried being polite however they assured me I had to pay. I turned around and informed them they'd breached their contract and violated laws surrounding unsolicited mail, which this was, being outside of a contract. EBay attempted to give me half of the funds, I refused and insisted on 100% back. They complied.

Im never selling on ebay again after my similar experience. I was selling an iPhone 12 that was squashed by a friends truck and I stated clearly the phone was LOCKED and marked it for parts/not working. Their money back guarantee refund system is so bad for sellers you have people abusing it intentionally. -Someone bought it and used a freight forwarder (invalidates their return) -AND had it sent to a restricted territory (also invalidates their return) -AND they also cracked the phone open and repaired it so they could use the phone normally(modifying an item also invalidates their return) -AND they started asking for my password to unlock the phone so they could “reset it”. Obviously I wasnt gonna do that for security reasons. So they started asking for a refund and just like what happened here they took a look and gave me 5 days to give them a refund or provide a shipping label. They didnt even care that multiple rules were broken that were supposed to invalidate the return, who knows if the guy would have removed more components or switched some out too. It took over a month to resolve it in the end and they ruled in my favor but it was the worst experience i’ve ever had selling an item anywhere, period. Never selling on ebay again.

The last time I had items for sale listed on eBay was way back in 2016: I sold three items almost at the same time at around 65 USD each, probably a difference of a day or two between each one and I promptly sent the goods... but around five days after I sent them all, I received a few messages from eBay saying the buyer's accounts had been compromised and that the actual person (or persons) who made those purchases were not the real owners of said accounts, so, the suipposed "real owners" filled a charge back for each of the items and eBay did the same by taking the funds from my account corresponding to those three items. On top of that, eBay wanted me to pay the "fees" for selling those items, which I never paid, of course, but had to abandon my account given I never recovered the money I lost, and given eBay wanted me to cover those fees in order for my account to "stay in good condition". F*ck eBay. 😑

This is why I do not ship internationally and there are no returns. It costs too much to ship on ebay, between paypal fees and ebay fees and scam buyers, I'd rather throw the item in the garbage, give it to a friend or donate it to a charity. All that time you spent is worth far more than that NUC! Talk to me next time, since I have a KZbin channel doing similar reviews, and maybe we can help each other out (I have mini PCs I no longer need, and so do you... we could trade?) Or not. Think about it.

Dude, I’m dealing with the exact same issue right now. I keep talking to eBay agents who agree that they made a mistake, I even got an email saying they had a problem that caused a three week delay. Yesterday they told me to file an appeal and would certainly be taken care of. I did that, with all details. Four hours later I got a denial on the case with zero explanation. Im really frustrated and considering legal action. Do you think that they will cause problems for you going forward if you were to sue them?

They lost me as a seller, over $1000 a day sales. Why: 1. Fees too high and kept going up. 11.86% for me. 2. Requiring bank account details. 3. No negative feedback for buyers. 4. Seller restrictions, limiting how much a seller can list price wise and how many items. 5. No call center, you can never get a real person you can speak to. 6. Disputes are always 99.99999% buyer favoured. As a business, I would not recommend eBay, create your own online shop, there are many websites that can do this for you, then you have 100% control over any issues .

In my experience asking for photos/proof that an item is damaged is not productive. The buyers in these situations 98% of the time are scamming. They will just destroy your item on purpose just to spite you, eBay is going to side with them regardless. 10 year, 20k transaction seller here and my account was closed due to “poor performance” through no fault of my own. I’m shocked this company is still around not sued into the ground with how they treat their sellers.
@teksyndicate
@teksyndicate Жыл бұрын
I don't understand the scam of destroying the item on purpose. How would they profit. they may get their money back, but the item is destroyed. My issue has been with buyers refusing to send images or refusing to cooperate. I use insurance with these and my insurance requires proof plus an repair estimate. ZERO buyers have ever cooperated with this and it's been really infuriating, but I've continued to email them with all this info. Ebay has been helpful because I've shown that I've tried to refund them via insurance. I've had to email ebay separately and even call them outside of the dispute interface. I created a huge fuss... and I'm about 50/50 with the results. Overall, ebay is not a safe place for sellers.

I've only sold two things before. The first was an old Lenovo ThinkPad W550s, took a big loss on that as I sold it about 2 months after I got it, as at the time I just couldn't get HiDPI to work right on Linux. The other was my 5700 XT. I was honest about the fan control being kind of buggy, where the stock curve put it at full blast all the time but Afterburner worked fine to control it, and ended up selling it for more than I paid for it. Thankfully both times went off without a hitch, because this is a horror story.

Dude thank you for posting this. I am a regular ebay seller, it's actually how I'm earning most of my money right now since losing my job a few months back. I've luckily had very few issues in the last..15 or so years of selling, but it was a good reminder for me on ways to cover my ass. I actually ship domestic only for that reason, too many "what ifs". When I first began selling this one jackass immediately opened a case on a camera I sold them, that I listed as not working / parts only. They told ebay it didn't work and without contacting me, ebay immediately took the money out of my account...although I very clearly stated that the thing had issues and listed it as parts only. I was livid and was also threatening to sue. (this was like 2009)

I sold my new laptop MacBook( still wrapped in its plastic) through eBay and the buyer opened a return case stating the computer is defective. Very weird right?? They told me I have to accept the return which I did. eBay sent the return label, it took a week for this buyer to receive the package when I sent it but it took 2 days for the buyer to send it back. But unfortunately the tracking says it was delivered to my home in my mailbox which wasn’t, and by the way my mailbox can’t get computer in my area . I went to the post office explaining the situation they pulled the info and realized that the tracking that I have , has someone else address on it. They went to the business building where the package was but called me back they can’t get it back because it’s not mine. They pulled all the infos to send to eBay to explain what happened which I did . But EBay still ruled in favor of the buyer stating it says delivered to me there is nothing to do. I told them the post office didn’t relabel it so you’re the one that sent the label with someone else’s address, so it’s your fault . It’s been a month and still hasn’t received anything. We decided we will sue them in a small court since they refuse to take responsibility and they want the seller to go through hard time. eBay’s policies are very stupid and annoying at the end.

I've sold a lot of stuff on ebay, and one time this guy from another country bought a video card. I had no international shipping listed. I don't know how he made the purchase, I ended up cancelling the sale and refunded the money. He gave me a negative review because of it. Another time I sold an RTX2080ti and it was pretty much brand new. The guy who bought it broke the card and asked me for a refund. It was lucky because he already left a positive review, plus he admitted in his email he was took the card apart. I sent the guy a nasty email without swear words, and told him to send it to Gigabyte under warranty. I sold an x399 motherboard, the guy send the board back and ebay refunded his money without question. It was pretty annoying how they sided with this guy so fast. I sent the board back under warranty got it fixed and was sent back to me for free, and I still have this board working today without any issues, so that was lucky. Oh and never buy from Ali Express unless the seller has sold hundreds of items with at least a 98% positive review. that's when you'll get the nastiest surprises and no refund. Thanks for pointing out the buyer rating - it makes sense now about the card sale to another country, the guy had a few 5 star ratings on very cheap items. must of been how he gets around being a scammer.

I’ve been screwed by eBay as a seller a handful of times and had to pay return shipping on a ‘faulty item’ which wasn’t faulty, photo of delivered item at said doorstep, signature of recipient who confirmed is theirs and still ended up out of the pocket sale price, eBay fees and commissions, PayPal fees and been given negative feedback regardless. I've never had eBay side with a buyer saying an item was not delivered when the tracking showed it was. I have had many bogus claims, though. Most recently someone opened an "Item Does Not Fit" eBay Guaranteed Fitment Program claim. They put the wrong vehicle (different sub model than they owned) in the fitment information and, effectively admitted this. eBay treats such claims, now, as an item not as described claim. Of course, it did not matter to eBay that the person put the wrong vehicle information in the fitment window. . . All that matters was that they claimed it would not fit their vehicle. As usual, eBay totally ignores the facts.

I'm suing eBay - multiple cases, some patently their fault! Unfortunately, their user agreement says they will penalise (ban!) accounts that cause legal issues for it. So basically, you may indeed win your case, but you lose your account. Basically is a fiefdom, and if you want to sell there, you have to accept the unfairness. And have a few accounts ready to go (registered to different legal entities) at all times to smooth over the inevitable shutdowns and arbitrary bans.

I had a terrible experience with a buyer a while back over a .5mm fill level discrepancy on a bottle of perfume. (literally) I'll try to keep it short, but essentially the buyer pointed out the fill level on the bottle she was unhappy with (I did have it documented in the pictures and the description, but she was literally measuring by micro millimeters) and she requested a partial refund of a very specific amount (down to the cent) and she said it would satisfy her. I refunded the amount she requested to avoid the headache, and she sent me a long message implying that I was developmentally challenged (kinder words than she used) to make the mistake in the first place, and all kinds of insults. I asked her to stop contacting me and didn't engage in the insults, and then she left me a negative review implying that my mother did a horrible job raising me to be so low IQ, and all kinds of stuff. And then she started sending me threats, saying that she had my return address. Mind you I had never replied to her after giving her the exact refund amount she requested and then asking her to stop contacting me. I had to call eBay support, and the guy was apologizing over and over to me because he agreed the messages were terrifying, and eBay has no way for you to really block people from messaging you. He had to do something manually to stop her, and he told me to report it to the police. I looked the lady up and she had multiple arrests for assault and breaking and entering. Terrifying!

I actually had a Ebay customer representative lie to me about granting me a (rightful) refund just to get me off the phone. This is after them fobbing me off for 6-8 months just hoping that I would go away and not get back my measly $30 that I was entitled to. I appreciate your comments about always being gracious to service reps though. There's no need to immediately start yelling down the phone at someone just caught up in the system trying to do their job. But the fact that is that these corporations have clearly shifted their behavior even harder after the pandemic. Fees are higher, customer service is non-existent and as you said, the arbitration process heavily favors the buyer. Talking to someone via chat is literally useless. They'll just spit back AI knowledge base answers to you when you've repeatedly written your entire situation to them. It's no worse talking over the phone as well. It's especially infuriating when they literally lied to me about finalizing my case and granting me a refund (Illegal) and then tried to ghost me. When I had to follow them up on this 2 weeks later (still no refund) they literally acted like I hadn't spent the past 8 months chasing them up constantly, and ruled against my favor. They want to bleed you dry with stress and hope that you just stop caring. I stopped selling anything on Ebay because I refused to get caught in their current payment system when they obfuscate fees, rip money from your bank account and hold it for as long as they like. Also, because of this I now ALWAYS record phone calls with customer service reps. I try to avoid confrontations but the dishonesty when dealing with these corps since 2020 has gone through the roof.

Lol, if you think eBay doesn't support their sellers.... I KNOW that you have never sold anything on Amazon. Amazon is the platform that screws their sellers, eBay is extremely fair and I have been a full time seller on both platforms plus several others since 1999.

@@teksyndicate back in 2004 & 5 I did over 40k a month in sales on Amazon, now today in 2023 less than $500 a month. Switched over 99% of my inventory to eBay years ago when Amazon decided to start letting customers keep my stuff for free. I can give you many examples, but a recurring one was customers would send us a message after we shipped the item saying that they changed their mind. I would reply, no problem just refuse the package when it arrives and I will refund your money when we receive it back. The customer would then contact Amazon and open an AZ claim saying they didn't want to wait. Amazon would just issue them a refund and they would keep the package when it arrived. Never sent it back. Sure you can open a SAFE-T claim to try and get your money back, but Amazon bots don't make it easy by design hoping after 6 or 7 form letter responses you eventually give up....

eBay cost too much of money to sell. SMH. As a seller, I am severely disabled, have no income, I use eBay to sell so I can eat. I sold drone, got ripped off badly. Buyer wanted to return. eBay forced me. Drone was returned minus batteries, controller and spx. eBay said can't do anything about it. That's BS. I was out $200. Did not eat for 3 days. Buyer even left ugly feedback. Unbelievable.

Sorry, that you don't understand EU laws. You need to learn that customer protections in the EU are vastly different compared to the US. In the EU we are actually entitled to a 14 days return policy for online sales no questions asked, whether you as a seller like it or not. Furthermore, within the first year of a sale having taken place it is up to you, the seller to prove that the item was working and not the buyer's responsibillity in case of malfunction or DOA. My advice, don't sell to customers in the EU law if you don't understand or are not prepared to handle returns. You were lucky that paypal accomodated you in a way whatsoever. They had 0 legal obligation to do so. You're the one legally at fault here, and nobody else. It doesn't even matter if anybody was trying to scam you. You have a fundamental misunderstanding on how sales to EU customers work regarding your personal liability.

As far as I'm concerned Ebay stole £100 from me. I sold a camera and used thier recommended insured and tracked shipping service and purchased, even buying the shipping label through them. Sent it off and got on with life. A month later the buyer has opened an 'item not recieved' case against me. Never contacted be before this so it was a complete surprise. I checked the tracking and saw that it hadn't been updated since an attempted delivery day. I showed ebay CS the tracking details and pointed out that it seemed suspicious that the buyer hadn't alerted me about a missing item. They did a bit of clicking on their keyboard and basically told me what amounted to it's your fault the courier lost or stole the item so you have to refund the buyer. The kicker is, they had the gall to send me a form to claim for compensation from the courier....which came back with the news that the courier won't honor the insured value of the item because I didn't make a claim within 30 days of posting it. So to sum up....I have only 30 days from the POSTAGE date to make a claim but the buyer has 30 days from the DUE date to make a claim to eBay for a full refund. And to rub salt in the wound, ebay took the full £100 from me after previously only giving me less than £90 of the total purchase price after fees. I've been scammed by ebay haven't I.....
