Bethany Rudd glad you were there to spot it! Not sure if Alex is like me, but when I’m fishing, I get so focused that a troop of bigfoot could perform a rendition of the Nutcracker Suite behind me and I wouldn’t notice. In a sinking boat, I probably wouldn’t have noticed until the water was up to my knees.

Once you were able to get on plain, the water actually started draining back out, so the distance from the boat ramp really didn't matter. Getting up on plain though is huge!

That's the only ones I use. I learned back in the '80s to stay away with the one that you don't need tools to put in. I rather take an extra 5 minutes putting my drain plug in and knowing when I get back it's still going to be in my boat.

I left the plug out on purpose at a Club tournament so that I could get underneath a bridge that was about 250 yards from the boat ramp. Forgot to tell my partner I was going to do this. I thought he was going to jump out of the boat when he noticed his tackle bag floating as we went around this small island...... Lol..... I just looked at him and said..." dude it's a Ranger it's not going to sink"... LOL... one of the funniest things ever. All kidding aside I had the plug come out of my Grumman Renegade( on a trolling motor only lake) back in the day and that was not a fun situation, so I know what was going through your mind Alex!

Once you were moving you were safe as long as you're moving, the water flows out of the plug hole due to momentum and will drain the boat dry. Not sure why you didn't or don't have an automatic bilge in it though? Most boats these days do not have good access to the plugs anymore while in the water and they are not accessible or installed from inside and that unnerves me for that very reason, they can fall out or whatever and you can not easily install a spare or remove it if you need to drain it with momentum.

Alex, Sorry to hear about the boat. Please give us a damage report if any. In your wrap up all seems well.I hope that is the case. Unfortunately with electronics the damage will happen later down the line. Interesting how a lot of the country is still experiencing summer weather @ 100 degrees when those of us in the northern tier already have 30 degree nights. I would trade places, I love the hot weather and love to fish in it. Watch this again when you caught the first fish and asked for the pliers I noticed the carpet was darker than the deck. It was already leaking. Why didn’t the bilge kick in, I assume you have an auto switch, not that it would handle that much water very well.
@AlexRuddFishing5 жыл бұрын
Everything is all good man. It's all waterproofed back there. The carpet was wet from the down pour we drove through on the way to the lake 😂 as for the bilge I found out the day it doesn't have a automatic one. So I'm changing out the plug system and putting in a automatic bilge.

I had that happen to me one time in my 20 Foot HydraSports. I see a lot of people who use the "lever" type of plugs and, because the bilge area is so crowded, the actually put the plug in from the OUTSIDE of the boat. That is DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!! That can pull out if you go through grass like hydrilla or something like that. That's what happened to me. I was on Lake Kissimmee in Florida and that is what I had done. I learned real quick, to put the plug in from the INSIDE of the bilge even if you have to reach way down there. Luckily, I got the boat on plane and that will usually empty the water out while you are running on plane. Of course, once you get to the landing, it will start filling up again so you have to be quick to get your vehicle down to the landing. It's pretty scary when you are 10 miles out in the middle of a big lake like that and see water pouring in.
