+shortie1982a Good luck! Im going to start the bachelors in a few months. Is it ..well was it hard? or challenging but doable? It's intimidating me right now because I had to choose this to do as my first choice I cannot do. Was it easier for you because maybe you like chemistry and bio and whatnot, those are not my strong subs and they intimidate me a lot. I'd appreciate a sort of detailed answer if you choose to reply to this comment because I think it might be interesting but im not sure if it is enough to keep me up...and the comments and videos on youtube that say ''if you like it you'll be fine'' doesn't really help. I graduate in a year with a bachelors in MLS and i just want to say one thing. To all the people who say MLSs get paid a lot less than RNs this is untrue. They might get paid slightly less (and Im talking like 5k a year less) but you can make a very good living. Where I live (idaho) you make like 60k a year but in some places like California you can make like 80k and up. Another thing I want to mention is the job placement is very high and in demand. You can also further your degree with a masters or phD, which tends to open up more leadership roles and higher pay.
@mohamudabdi63049 жыл бұрын
TheFreealexis , Thanks for sharing that. I am in my freshman year at college and I am thinking to major MLS. Even though MLS and RN are slightly different in terms of salary, do you think MLS is more complicated than RN during college years? Thanks

Its a very interesting field trust me. I enjoy doing this type of work but there are some things that are not mentioned in majority of youtube videos. Many job openings are at night and they usually pay more so you may end up taking it and suffer for it if you are not used to the overnight shift. Also sheer volume of samples. If you work in a diagnostic lab that's what are you going to face on daily basis.

Sorry for a delayed response. I don't know if you still need this, but I would give some advice to you anyways. Study for your board exam as soon as possible. Buy books made for board exam and practice answering them. The more you practice the more confident you are. Confidence is everything. It helps you stay calm during test and make it easier for you to pass. After 10 years in the field, I like it. It is a very demanding career. You would never be worried about losing your job. It's always in the need of hiring. Also, the pay is decent enough to make a living. However, I love the IT part of the job more. I love working with computers since I was young, but I was clueless when I chose a career and was pressured by my family to get into healthcare industry. Well, it turned out that it was not a bad choice. But, it would be awesome if I can work in IT department, an IT career in healthcare, not just a regular "IT guy" as people would think of.

What I’m interested about this course is you’ll have to study bacteriology,viruses,blood smearing and all other major subjects related.Not that I’m smart or anything but to learn new things is thrilling ya know? And what I think I should master is the Venipuncture,cause when I was a Grade 12 students last year for our work immersion class, I can tell you this, My first try was NOT successful,it was nerve-wracking yes,my hands were shaking and thought I would never hit the cephalic vein(or basilic vein). Second try was a little bit successful with the help of a professor.BUUUUT,don’t be discouraged and keep on trying That’s what I have in mind right now as I have graduated high school and currently a Medtech student in a university.Please don’t lower your self-esteem,keep in mind that you’ll also work inside a lab like these wonderful adults.Know that your interest for this job and the passion to have this job will keep us going. This might only be my point of view and y’all might think “Easy for you to say”... Trust God and He will help you through bad times and good times have faith in yourself and don’t ever give up on your dream 😊❤️

what about medical laboratory technician, and medical laboratory scientist, i am studying maedical lab tech tigh now and i was wondering if when the section finishes, would i have to start all over and get a bachelors in science then a masters, or will my associates from technician, able to count as the 2 years of my bachelors, so i can get my bachelors degree, also how would one become a Scientist after becoming a technician.
@Erika-yi1fj5 жыл бұрын
No you don't have to start over. Two options; you can either obtain a 2 yr degree for MLT , then later go back to school for 2 more years and get your MLS. Or, just go straight into a 4-year bachelor's degree for MLS. This is how it works in the US. Med Lab Scientists/aka MTs here get paid more, but MLT is still a good place to start if you want to take baby steps.
