I've seen this song performed by superstars like Anthony Warlow, Kevin Kline, and Tim Curry, but Johns version is just so charismatic and hilarious. I might be biased because im an Aussie, but I just love this performance

I have been in this musical at Richmond Theatre London. But this is such a great performance, with the orchestra and all part of the fun. Absolutely brilliant.

Saw a local production today. Sold out 550 seats 11am performance and given our age I would bet most of us thought of John English may he RIP he was the Pirate King!

Wore out the copy on VHS that I had when I was a kid, English was great as the Pirate King and as Ko-Ko the Lord High Executioner in the Mikado.

I remember seeing this live except they had Gerry Connelly playing The Major General... couldn't do it without taking off his other characters... though having him introduce it as HRH Queen Elizabeth the 2nd was great
