Hi Sebs. It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. And here you are, reacting to Paolo Nutini fae Paisley. This fellow 'Paisley Buddy' has done very well from small beginnings and purely by chance and talent. His big break came inside Paisley Town Hall in 2005, when he wasn't even planning on being there. A friend talked him into going along that night. The artist due on stage was David Sneddon, winner of BBC TV talent show Fame Academy, but his flight was delayed. So, singers from the audience were invited up on stage. One of them was wee Paolo Nutini, aged 16, still wearing his school uniform. The rest is history. Now, he can sell out any venue in Scotland and perhaps throughout all of the UK. In 2022, he did a series of 5 Sold Out gigs at Scotland's No.1 music venue, my workplace, The OVO Hydro in Glasgow, which broke the record for Sold Out gigs at that venue. Also, in August this year, he returned to Paisley Town Hall for a gig to support local charities. Each ballot ticket was only £3 and he raised £300,000 for 2 charities. I bought a few tickets, but wasn't lucky in the ballot. Please check out more from oor Paolo. He is very much a down to earth guy. He can be still be seen around Paisley, where his dad still runs the Castelvecchi Fish and Chip Shop, that was founded by Paolo's great grandfather 120 years ago. Paolo himself used to work there and live above the shop. So, he always comes back home. As others have suggested, please check out 'Pencil Full Of Lead' next and then I'm sure you'll be back for much more. Considering you like the message so much, think about somebody else from this area, specifically Elderslie, just up the road who also screamed "Freedom!" like Paolo did in this video... William Wallace, that's who. Well, if you believe how the story was shown in the Mel Gibson 'Braveheart' movie... He was apparently educated by monks in Paisley Abbey, though. William, not Paolo... Many believe this song is about Scottish Independence, and Paolo is a supporter of that, as am I. Æ 🙏 🏴

He has Soooooo many great songs and you can’t go wrong with any of his live stuff. “Autumn” ,”No other way”, “Candy” , “better man”, “Through the echoes “, “ Scream, funk my life up” , “ Pencil full of lead”. His latest album is 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️. “Everywhere” is my favourite from that. The Paolo Nutini rabbit hole is one you glad you have found. One of the most criminally underrated artists of the last 20 years.

Love, love, love Paolo. Hear his Scottish accent in every song. This is possibly because he comes from the next town to me. Have watched his evolution from first entering the music scene. He has gone from strength to strength. Can't get enough of his gravelly, soulful Celtic voice.

I've been a fan for years and years and years. And my kids became fans after that! I saw Paolo live in a tiny venue in Limerick, Ireland a couple years ago when his last album was just dropping... at the start of his tour. After loving his music for so many years, seeing him in such an intimate space was life changing! (Actually, I ran into him earlier that day in our hotel elevator!) I'm not a Scot, but I'm in Scotland a lot (I've flown there from the US 46 times already this year, and have 6 more planned). I know Scotland is proud of this man from little ol' Paisley, Scotland! And I get a big grin every time I hear his music randomly play in stores and restaurants! He's one of my all-time favorite artists. Paolo is a gifted man and I'm so thankful he's continued to share that talent with us! 🏴❤️

Paolo gave me COVID, literally. Stoked to see him in Manchester in October '22. First concert since the pandemic and pumped to get right up front with general admission. At some point, he came off stage and worked his way down the rail hugging and high-fiving everyone and shoving the mic in our faces to sing along. I was caught between two insticts of recoil and reverb. Beautiful show. Genuinely the whole These Streets album is sick as shit. Just as I was for a couple weeks after, just in time to go super spread at Jason Isbell's Scandi tour the next month. Ain't it funny how a melody can bring back a memory?

There a few Damien Rice videos I think you'd enjoy. "The Professor/La Fille Danse" at Union Chapel is a brilliant performance, filled with great vocals, incredible dynamics, and a couple of vocal impressions. The standing ovation at the end of the performance is absolutely deserved. Then there's the performance of "I Remember" (BBC Four Sessions), a blistering, epic that begins with the lovely vocals of Lisa Hannigan and ends with a wall of sound...singer-songwriter with absolute rock star swagger. Damien is a master of dynamics, where you're floating along in some beautiful acoustic idle and the next thing you know, he's howling at the moon, and it totally makes sense. And if that works for you, try "It Takes A Lot to Know A Man" with Cantus Domus One on One, an a capella performance of raw, direct emotion that is kind of overwhelming and powerful. Love watching your reactions to great music. Keep it real

Paolo wrote this 10 years ago during the 2014 Independence Referendum, where Scotland was voting to become independent from the UK. He uses some very brilliant, but subtle, writing techniques, such as sounding a lot like Mel Gibson's portrayal of William Wallace in Braveheart when belting "Freeeeeeeeedom", the sound that immediately stirs up ideas of Scottish independence in the soul...but he makes it sound so good. Its quite genius.
