Such an amazing artist. Iron Sky is a masterpiece. I would highly recommend the song Everywhere because the song demonstrates his gorgeous, soulful vocals and builds up the intensity in the same way Iron Sky does.

Paulo is an amazing singer/songwriter. He marches to his own beat and doesn't get as much recognition as he deserves because he likes to keep a low profile - not a fan of fame and all its trappings. Doesn't like doing interviews and disappears for years on end. Then comes back with more wonderful music. Love him to bits. As others have said, No Other Way live at the Leon loft is another amazing live performance.

Iron Sky (2014) was a powerful and haunting song when it was released, but a decade on, its message feels even more relevant, particularly in the context of Scotland’s unfulfilled push for independence and the state of the UK today. In 2014, Scotland voted 55% to 45% against independence, with many swayed by promises of stability, EU membership, and economic security within the UK. Yet, ten years later, Brexit, austerity, political scandals, and a growing disconnect between Westminster and Holyrood have left many Scots feeling disillusioned. The promises of 2014 have largely crumbled-Scotland was dragged out of the EU against its will, UK politics are in turmoil, and the cost of living crisis has deepened inequalities. Nutini’s Iron Sky, with its themes of oppression, control, and the fight for freedom, resonates deeply with those who feel increasingly trapped in a political system they did not vote for. The track samples Charlie Chaplin’s famous The Great Dictator speech, which calls for humanity to rise against tyranny-a message that could easily be applied to those frustrated by Westminster rule today. As 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the referendum, the question remains: is Iron Sky a reminder of a missed opportunity, or a rallying cry for change? With support for independence still strong, and the UK in arguably worse shape than in 2014, many Scots may feel Nutini’s lyrics cut deeper than ever.

Additional info: Paolo is kind of well known in the UK but not massively. He rose to prominence in the 00s alongside a spike in Scottish performers like KT Tunstall, but maintained a steady fame and popularity among a live music audience. There's a level of authenticity there that keeps such talented people out of the superficial "pop" business while they still get massive audiences on tour and at festivals etc. Also, Adele was visiting Abbey Road and when she found out Paolo was recording she asked if she could sit in the studio and watch. She's allegedly said she was shocked and stunned by this performance and seeing him do this live in front of her really impacted her. So all throughout this just imagine Adele behind the cameras being awestruck lol And you can understand why. It's a phenomenal performance.

One of my favourite tracks to see people react to. Glad you guys enjoyed that the way you did. Paolo is such a reluctant superstar. He could so easily have became a naughties indie poster boy, but he marches to the beat of his own drum. Seeing him live is a thing of beauty, one of the voices of our times. He just creates timeless masterpieces like it's easy. Drops a number one album disappears into the ether and then just comes back years later like a force of nature. Paulo is one of Scotland’s greatest sons, he released this only a few months before Scotland had its vote for independence (funnily enough it didn’t get much radio play even though most his other music did) I met him once back stage at T In The Park (a old Scottish music festival) and he was down to earth and all about the vibe rather than a persona of star dome even though he’s a legend and national treasure Hope you check out more of his music
