You doesn't need an oven to make biscuits. When I was little we went to some old ladies house, and had biscuits that she cooked in the skillet. She called them "Hoe Cakes" because people use to make them over an open fire on garden hoes. I'm not lying. You can look up hoe cakes on the interwebs. Some hoe cakes are made with flour and some are made with cornmeal. To this day, my mom makes all of her biscuits in a skillet. Even John Witherspoon (The comedian that died last month) has a video about making Hoe Cakes. Why? Because as he says in the video "Hos gotta' eat too."

Thanks for the info on these. I was considering getting one but had a friend tell me that the BTU's on the oven are too low. Your 2 hour time for making cookies at higher altitudes confirms that for me.

I saw someone made a custom insulating cover from a welding blanket to keep the heat in the oven and make it more efficient. Cutting and sewing skills required.

Would this be practical for your setup? Why or why not?!
@sidewyndersshed1676
@sidewyndersshed1676 4 жыл бұрын
Not practical for my setup, as you mentioned space is an issue. When i was building my camper I decided not to install a permanent stove, I just use a coleman 2 burner propane camp stove, 90% of the time its used outside, but there is room and sufficient ventilation to use it inside. That oven (although awsome) is just too cumbersome for my camper. Love the vids! 👍

You realize that when it's gone, it's gone. You can always do biscuits and gravy on the camp stove. I just love a fried ribsteak with gravy made from the drippings. Whoowee, mashed potatoes with steak gravy! On second thought, you don't need that oven anyways. Take care and be safe. Vaughn

Still on the fence about a bus or a truck like yours. If I build a bus I can have my own music studio and office in it, but I’d be limited on where I can go. If I build a truck, I’d have to decide on maybe building an off-road trailer too so I can have my mobile office. I plan on being a musician so I gotta have some space for my instruments, ya know?

I almost bought one of these, but I’m really glad I didn’t. Altitude is a major issue for me, and I absolutely despise messing with finicky butane/propane devices at camp. Home is 6250’ and I spend a lot of time up around 8k feet for short trips and up to 10k during hunting season. This stove would be a huge pain in the ass. I’ve got several old school stoves that are white gas and converted to run on unleaded. I think I’ll stick with that. I can do baked things in a dutch oven. When I move to a newer chassis in the future, I think I’ll go all electrical appliances with lithiums and solar. I always have a gas generator anyway, so I could recharge that way in a pinch. Just for the sake of reliability, if nothing else, electrical is easiest.

People are always talking about buying rv’s that are basically unused, still have stickers on appliances. No problem here. Sort of like trying to sell your car and washing it after the first thousand people look at it. On the other hand you showed it in action. Can’t go wrong with hot cookies. M

"Build the rig around it"... exactly! Rhino 8, my ExpeditionVehicle, is 7.5ft wide by 12.5ft long. Although I full-timed since I built the rig in 2003, I never saw a need for a fridge. Last month, my buddy Kai in Bend Oregon was in the final stages of readying his Tacoma to ship to Hawai'i. He offered me his SnoMaster LP61, delivered it to me in Eugene Oregon, and for a month, it sat in the middle of my living room / dining room / conversation pit / dog snoozing zone / dressing room [blush]. Sure, I can appreciate the alleged convenience, but where do I perm-mount the thing! Ack!

If you're looking for an alternative, try out this guy. I have one that I use in my truck camper, and I've been happy with it. Less capacity, but that's the obvious trade-off for the smaller size. And in terms of capability, I think it's even better than those typical Aussie ones. www.amazon.com/RoadPro-12-Volt-Portable-Stove-Black/dp/B00030DLEE/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=12v+oven&qid=1574357944&sr=8-1

I'm very curious - what have you cooked/baked in it? I have a hot logic mini, similar 12v oven thing, and found it annoying because it takes hours to cook anything and I never plan ahead like that
@camro210
@camro210 4 жыл бұрын
@@Down2Mob, looking at the Hot Logic Mini, apparently it only draws 45 watts max. This RoadPro is 144 watts, so I don't think they're too comparable... I haven't used it super extensively, but I've done cookies a few times (~25 min maybe), cooked up hot dogs, heated up cold pizza, stuff like that. Experimented with muffins once, and it didn't go great, but haven't tried again yet. Some things take some trial and error to get timing figured out and stuff, obviously. If you look at the reviews on Amazon, there's tons of good info and tips about what people have been able to cook with them.
